Smile Soft Suede...I must live under a ROCK!!

I have not used this ink pad very much at all. I think I used it once at my demo's house, so I do not own it. I need some opinions on this color please. What do you use it for? Should I purchase it, along with the re-inker that goes with it? I thought about getting the marker too, but I'll need to see if it is sold seperately, or if I'll need to get the set. Any and all opinions welcome!! Thanks!!

I initially disliked it but once I paired it with Regal Rose and/or Bashful Blue it has become an often-used color. I made sure to get 12x12 packages in each of those three colors and a refill (my self-imposed rule is to own at least one refill for every full-size inkpad I have). I think I have a marker too.

I still like Close to Cocoa (retired) better but it is a very good neutral color.

HTH and ...

Happy Crafting!

Gosh, I don't see how you have made it this far without it : ) You NEEEEEEEED it. lol

Seriously, I do love it. Intense, trendy shade of mid-range brown for those times when Espresso is too dark and the tans/khakis are too light. It goes with all kinds of unexpected color combos.

When I first saw Soft Suede, I thought it was ugly.
But as I used it, I fell in love.
It's a great middle brown, changes tone somewhat depending on the nearby colours. When you sponge the ink on the paper, it really does get a leathery/suede look.

You need it.

(yes, I'm biased! )

I love it. My favorite SU brown ink. Really beautiful against Very Vanilla. The combo is very vintage.

I don't use the paper, however. Not a brown paper person, other than Kraft.

Thank you all so much!! Keep the ideas coming!! I don't think I will buy the paper. Just the ink pad and refill? What are some of your favorite stamp sets that you used the suede ink with?

I so agree -- it is a must have color especially if you like making vintage cards and scrapbook pages (like me)!!!

LOVE this colour! I especially love it with Christmas cards paired with ivory or red.

I also use this colour a lot when I want to softly sponge a little colour on the main stamped image, it's not too dark, not too light.

I like Soft Suede too. On it's own it looks sort of blah but once you start pairing with other colors it really looks great! I used it recently on a card in my gallery if you want to see it in action.

I agree with Lyssa and Tina, it's a great middle of the road brown and perfect for sponging on vintage cards.

I use soft suede a lot!!! I sponge with it all the time. I agree that it works well with vintage images. I've used it with Nature Walk, Plane and Simple, Open Sea etc. It pairs well with so many different colors! I haven't used the marker nearly as much as the ink pad with sponging. I like to use the paper with wood grain texturing.

Amanda, your card is beautiful!! I was thinking I may not buy the cardstock, just get the inkpad and refill, but after seeing it with the Cajun Craze, I loved those two together! I do a little vintage stamping, and I love the idea of using it to sponge the paper too. I love hearing all the thoughts on this color. Thank you. Please share your projects, so that I may see them!!

See, now there you go. Cajun Craze is an ink color I thought I would never use, not being much into orange, but it has become a total go-to for me. I love pairing it with Bravo Burgundy ink (another color I thought would never see much use). So weird and surprising what ends up being the colors you gravitate toward. I am so glad I was able to get all the SU colors in spots before they discontinued them, because otherwise I would have had to rely on what I thought I would like in ordering full size pads and I would have missed out on colors I ultimately came to love.

I think it is a shame you can only get spots in the starter set now. I think SU made a mistake there.

I think SU! also made a mistake by now selling only the markers in sets. You can't buy them individually any longer. I miss that terribly!

Here are a few projects that I've made using Soft Suede:
Pierced Prayers Stamped the script over Baja Breeze on the butterfly
Argyle Hydrangea Paired with Blushing Bride and Certainly Celery
Papa Patina used in a patina technique and with images from Plane and Simple
Flowers Fade with Poppy Parade and Daffodil Delight
Pink Damask Hope where I made a wood grain with the Suede
Masculine Strips with blues and browns
and a monochromatic look with The Open Sea on Neutral Seas

Beautiful work, Gail!

If that doesn't convince you that you need to get yourself some soft suede, Karen, nothing will!

Thanks! Hope you enjoy the color as much as I have. I still don't have the new in colors yet, but I'm excited about the new blue.

I'm one of those people that I usually don't buy the IN colors. I just don't. If I stay away from them, I won't be sad to see one leave, as I'm sure some of them would soon become a favorite of mine. I am just recently buying the spritzer tool!! Yeah, I'm a little behind in the times!! LOL!

Now that you say this I can see your point, Karen. I am really in love with several of the 2011-2013 in-colors and I am going to have to stock up on them (like a truckload?) before they go. I know that other colors will come along to replace them in my affections, but unfortunately I am having a hard time getting excited about any of the newest in-colors. Maybe I need to see them in person, and I don't know how I'd do that unless I bought them. In the catalogue they look like construction paper colors. I'm ready to be convinced otherwise by anyone out there who has used them.

You most definitely need to see them in person! They are very pretty!
You can buy the combo pack. It's cheaper than buying each one in single colors but be warned, you will fall in love with them
