Default Is Snarky a word?

Yesterday I was watching my fav news WGN 9 and they had a guest on there and my guess is that he lives with a Split Coaster because he said something about being a little Snarky and then he said is that a word and shrugged his sholders. I could not stop laughing!

Snarky has gone national! LOL

OMG, it IS in the dictionary
snark·y
adj. Slang snark·i·er, snark·i·est
Irritable or short-tempered; irascible.
[From dialectal snark, to nag, from snark, snork, to snore, snort, from Dutch and Low German snorken, of imitative origin.]

this is soo funny. my dh and i were watching OZ last night (we've been renting the series) and one of the characters said "that was very snarky." dh and i had just been talking about snarky and how we both like the word. funny how things seem to pop up more once you learn about them.

I first heard the word "snarky" in 1971, which is probably before Britta was born. At the time, it was a favorite word of teenage girls, who had plenty of snarky remarks about everything. It is a very girly word. (LOL).

We're showing our age, Ninatar! I, too, remember using "snarky" back in the 70s. Thanks to Britta and SCS, my three DD are now using "snarky" everyday.

I was born in 1970-but doubt I used snarky in my regualr converstaion back then!

It is a perfect word to use in my house-where everyone from the 3 yr. old to the dog act snarky on a daily basis. My son occasionally tells me to not be "narky", but he doesn't grasp the whole meaning. It is usually after I tell my DH to stop being snarky and then Cam will tell me to ":Not be 'narky to daddy"

urban dictionary definition:
1. snarky
(adjective) describes a witty mannerism, personality, or behavior that is a combination of sarcasm and cynicism. Usually accepted as a complimentary term. Snark is sometimes mistaken for a snotty or arrogant attitude.
Her snarky remarks had half the room on the floor laughing and the other half ready to walk out.
...
Origin: Snark="snide remark".

Oh, yes! I'm postively ancient. All this retro stuff is WAY too familiar. I had a white fur stuffed cat back that was a pajama bag back in the '60's - and it looked EXACTLY like COOL CAT.

Snark, snark.

This is too funny. We use "Snarky" all the time in our house. While I am sitting here reading all the posts, my 5 YO DS asked for lunch. I responded "you just ate breakfast" "There is no way your hungry again." He said, "jeez mom you don't have to be so snarky. Besides you have been on that computer for a loooong time." Oops guess I better go make a PB & J.

I took Lisa's suggestion and listened to the pronunciation of "Snarky" on the Merrian-Webster link. It sounds like Mike Myers in Austin Powers!

Default Ummm, the dude on WGN...

Ok, the dude on WGN...he didn't have a 5 o'clock shadow all over his head, did he? Because if DH keeps stealing my lingo, I'll *need* to learn Russian just to be able to talk about him without him knowing it!

Snarky is one of those words that is onomonopaeic...it *sounds* exactly like what it *is*! I can't help myself for using it - it's just the perfect word to describe my sense of humor! Most people *get* someone like me...those that don't? Well, let's just say: when they die, and the doctor performs an autopsy...if a gram of carbon has found it's way into their posterior...it will have become a diamond.

That's snark. Isn't it cool?? ~ K

I first heard it a couple of years ago on Dharma & Greg. It was the perfect word for me to pick up since it was time to quit swearing like a sailor, but still have to opportunity to make my point.

Snarky IS a word-but remember that snarky can go to the dark side.
Keep your snark well contained and remember that snark is NEVER used to hurt or instigate trouble, but more often as a stress relief with comedic flair.

Sometimes people are just plain [email protected] and then hide under the guise of being snarky-but don't be fooled! Snark is here to bring joy to the masses!
