After doing a lot of research here on SCS I finally came up with the a CHEAP & simple ribbon storage solution: a wire coat hanger. Just cut one of the "shoulders" and curl each end into a hook with pliers. It's easy to put rolls on/take them off. I hang mine in the closet of my stamping room, but you can hang it from a table, a curtain rod, or a hook on the wall. I use a straight pin to keep the ribbon from unravelling. Not nearly as cute as some of the box/grommet solutions you clever ladies have come up with, but it works for me!
(OK, now I'm hearing Faye Dunaway in my head, "NO WIRE HANGERS!!)
That is a great idea. I use a wooden dowel with a loop of ribbon on each end and then just pin it onto my bulliten board over my desk. I like the coat hanger idea for my seasonal ribbons - then I could just pull out a Christmas hangar and be ready to go.
cause I have NO WIRE HANGERS in my house, as soon as my hubbys shirts come home from the cleaners the hangers get tossed in the trash!
I do have to say that you have a great idea!
What a simple and effective idea! Thanks for sharing!
Jovi, You should check with your dry cleaner... I get a hanger-shaped box from my dry cleaner, and I place all the hangers in there as soon as the dry cleaning comes home. When the box is full, I simply take it in the next time I drop off/pick up. It reduces landfill space and is a simple and easy way to recycle. It's good for the environment and good for my heart!

What a great idea! I would have never thought of that, next time I go in I'll ask. Thanks
I had some wooden wine crates (cheap or free at the liquor store) and curtain tension rods ($2). You can get two rods per crate (about 17" long)and they can also be stacked. You could also use the tension rods between desk, tables, bookcases, etc.

another ribbon storage idea using wire hangers and a dowel is to cut the wire hanger about 1 - 2 inches from the shoulders on the "straight" part, then curl the cut ends loosely around the dowel (cut to the length of the "staight" part). so in effect, the dowel takes the place of the wire length. does that make sense? i find that using just the wire hanger, cut the way spammie described it, bends a little too easily.

I too use the spring tension rods which are placed inside a shelf on my bookcase. Seems to work well for me so far

It's so funny I found this thread today instead of a couple of days ago. Just yesterday I had an "ah ha" moment while walking through Home Depot. I went and bought 2 tension curtain rods and put all my ribbon them and suspended them inside my book case.
Great minds think alike! ;)

Duh! What a great idea, I am totally going to do this. I have 2 target ribbon boxes but they only hold 18 rolls ea. I'm a ribbon hoarder so that just will not do. ;) Thanks!

I did the hanger thing last night and thank you for this brillant suggestion! You can get a lot of spools on one hanger. Bad part is I have only one wire hanger so I'll have to ask the dry cleaners for another. Thanks for sharing.
