I have seen some BEAUTIFUL scarves in the Gallery -- but wonder what the source is for the scarves -- Am interested in white and black. I found a website but it is wholesale only. Anyone?
Thanks in advance,
My first thread !! I'm nervous !! Does it show?
I don't have a clue where to order these, but I did find out a neat tip today for wrapping scarves. Feed the scarf into a clear glass Christmas ornament and a tie a ribbon at the top of the ornament. It looks pretty enough to hang on a tree.
Thank you to both of you. I love the idea of putting the scarf in a clear Christmas ornament -- that would be stunning -- but first I have the do the scarf !!
The dharma trading link is great -- they have too many kinds of scarves -- I don't know which to get !! I know I have a source for the dyna flow silk inks, so all I think I need is the scarves. I am going to do something abstract so won't get the Synthrapol they recommend. They also had a silk tank top for $8 that might be fun to play with -- don't know though, that might be way beyond my skills ---- The site has great instructions but I think I will be "simplifying" them.
My upline is Jenn Balcer (one of the splitcoast admins here). Anyway, when I first became a demo this summer, she came over and did a "Christmas in July" workshop for me and my friends. Anyway, one of the projects was a silk scarf. She did it with the "Roses in Winter" set and the SU craft inks. Then all she did was heat set it with an iron.
I intend to make those exact things for my SILs for Christmas.
HTH.

My friend traded at convention for a silk scarf, it came from someone on SCS, I am pretty sure her name is Billie Rose. All I can say about that scarf is WOW!!!! It was so pretty. She probably knows a good place to get them, since she had quite a few of them at convention.

At Cathy Parlitsis' last downline meeting, the silk scarves were a make-n-take. The ones she used are from dharmatrading.com. They are the Habotai Silk Scarves #H88 and are 8" x 54" . That makes them about $1 per scarf. Not bad at all!
We just stamped with craft ink and let them dry. They are really cool! I'll have to post a picture later.
Definitely go with Dharma Trading - they have the best deal on scarves! The Habotoi is good for swaps and stamp camps, but if you're giving as a gift, spend a few pennies more and go for the next higher quality - crepe de chine. You'll find that the fabric works really well absorbing ink without running. Plus, it has a gorgeous texture! They come in white and black. I use our chalk inks on the scarves - works beautifully! Here's a picture of one with a matching microscope slide pin - I did the smaller ones (6x24) for swaps at convention this year, and I'm doing the larger ones (8x54 and 11x60) for Christmas gifts! They're so fun to make and give - I know you'll love it!
I used the Earths/Regals set - it's great for fall colors, too! Here's a Word document I made up for my group with some detailed instructions, in case anyone needs it!
I have used craft ink --waited till it was dry and then threw it in the dryer. You could also run an iron over it as long as the steam is off!! I actually purchased the longest one from Dharma trading and stamped the Snowflake set on them and draped them over a decorative curtain rod for my downstairs. When I had my Stamp a Stamp last Sat every one just loved them! So many ides so little time!!

Thank you, everyone. I'll be making some awesome gifts, that's for sure. I'm amazed at how inexpensive the scarves are - will be fun to play with them !
I just came across this thread, wish it had been sooner, and have already ordered some to play with. Thank you so much for the terrific gift idea. I hope to complete some for my sister, daughter and daughter-in-laws for the holidays. Can't wait to try them.

I recommend you pose this question in the demonstrator only forums--it will be more noticeable in there for fellow demonstrators to respond to.
