Those of you that have had these for awhile, do yours get worn out? Mine do NOT work like they used to. I have cleaned them. Tightened them. They just don't cut like buttah anymore! I am thinking I am going to buy a new pair. I have never cut paper or anything else but rubber with them. I have had them for about 2 years - since I started stamping.
So, those of you that stamp a lot....how long do yours last? I don't have an insane amount of stamps that I cut, but quite a bit.....
You just need to get them sharpened. I know I've read a couple of threads on SCS about a guy named Jim in California who sharpens them for $5. I just can't remember the name of the company. Do a search, you'll be able to find it I'm sure.
You can find good scissor sharpeners in most areas. Ask at the local
fabric store for recommendations. Here (Idaho) it's usually less than $5
per pair of scissors. I know I need to take in several pairs for sharpening.
This is the site for Jim that Carolyn mentioned. http://www.circustamps.com/scissors.html
I've never had my scissors sharpened yet, but have saved Jim's site to my Favorites for future reference.

That happened to me and I decided to buy another pair. When they came and I used them, I was SO amazed... again. I forgot how easily they cut! I couldn't find a sharpener anywhere! I saved them just in case I do, but OMG a new pair of scissors made all the difference.
I have had mine sharpened. My mom took her's to a local hardware store & they did a great job. I took mine with me on a trip home & there was a different guy & he messed mine up. But the regular guy was able to fix them. I would send them to Jim from now on myself. He's experienced with our particular style of scissors.

I'm so glad you asked this! I was wondering the same about my scissors. I've had mine for about as long as you, Emily, and same thing - just not like buttah anymore! I'll look for a sharpener near here. Anyone know of a place in Calgary to get them sharpened??
Mine are in bad need of sharpening! I'm just not sure I can live without them long enough to send them away. Does anyone have any experience with Jim and how long he takes to send them back?

I know I've read threads in the past where people have had complaints about how long Jom takes to send the scissors back. But others have said they've gotten them back within a week... so I guess it depends on who you ask.
I've been meaning to send mine in for quite awhile now... I think I'm finally going to do it. I've only heard good things about how sharp this guy gets them!

Um...if he lives in California and he charges $5 and you had to pay to mail them to him....wouldn't you be well on your way to buying a new pair??
Yes Emily - you're right & I've heard it takes too long to get them back from him. I'd just go to your local fabric store - call first though before you drag the kids out. My sharpening guy only is there 1 or 2 days per week.
I agree with the above post about calling your local fabric store. I do a ton of sewing and I always take my good sewing scissors to them for sharpening. I've never had a problem finding a sharpener that way. (We are military, so I've used lots of sharpeners.) Do call first, as mentioned above, they really are only at the store one or two days per week. Seamstresses are PICKY about their scissors, so be assured the sharpener at a fabric store will do a good job.

I've sent mine to Jim with circustamps several times. The $5 (he prefers cash) covers shipping too. I think it's reasonable and he only asks that you attach a tag to the scissors with your name and address so he can use that to mail them back to you. I've had good luck with him several times.
This thread inspired me to finally get my craft scissors sharpened. I got them sharpened at a local fabric store for $3 and now they are cutting like new again!!
I took mine to the guy my hairdresser uses to sharpen her hair scissors. The charge to sharpen them was 5.00 which was reasonable and I got them back the next day. Hairdressers are very particular about their scissors because some of them are very expensive, so ask your hairdresser where they sharpen their scissors. HTH!

Mine are a lot older than 2 years! My DH has this knife-sharpening block, and I let him do them, and it was amazing to feel the difference!!
I still think I want a second pair - one of these days when I just need to fill in an order, LOL - so that when he's slow to get around to it, I have a back-up!!!
I know our local quilting shop sharpens scissors, probably only on certain days.

I used this guy and I had my scissors back within the week (and that includes shipping time) They were just like new when I got them back.
Prices include shipping back to you (So you have to pay
to ship them to him)
1 pair $3
2-9 pairs $2.75
10 + pairs $2.50
His address is :
On the Edge
112 Derby Downs
Spartanburg, SC 29301
(864)595-1664
Hmmm, someone on this coast! I was going to send them to this guy everyone's raving about but I may have to try letting this person in SC sharpen my first pair since I have a new one (that cuts MUCH better) from my starter kit to use in the meantime!

Hey Emily, what did you do decide to do????
I bought a new pair. I have my old pair and I'll try to do the sharpening thing, but I don't get out much, lol! It's too much work to haul the boys around at this age for something like that. Maybe I'll send the old pair in when I get the new ones and I can kind of rotate them.

I have two pairs and rotate them too. I send one to Circustamps to have sharpened at a time so I always have a pair on hand. When I get the sharpened pair back, I tie a ribbon on the handle so I know it's the "better" pair. It definitely comes in handy to have a back-up.
Well I am on my second pair! I got the second one free with my great rewards last year and they are already in need of sharpening!!! All I cut are my stamps! Maybe I am buying too many stamps? Hee No that is not possible!
