Default scs board history

i really love this board a lot, spending quite some time here makes me wonder a few things...

how long is this board now active?

how many moderators does scs have

i noticed different kinds of moderators... can anybody explane?

how many active members do we have on the board?

how big is the volume we use on the server with all our posts and pic? this must be a hudge number?

do our moderators volunteer to work for scs? i just thought the other night when i uploaded very late at night cards.... that there was actually on the other side somebody sitting and approving all our uploads. i was REALLY surprised.

so on this place i want all of you who work so hard for scs tell, please know that we do recognize what you do for us and how many hours you put into this board.

thank you

I can help you answer som eo fyour questions (basically the non-technical ones, LOL)

Splitcoaststampers started in 2003 by Daven and Tracy Nolta.
Since then there are almost 89,000 members currently (WOW!!!)

The 'worker bees" are split into different categories. There is admin (like Daven, Tracy, Tom, Jenn Balcer, and Beate) who help keep the actual site running and have th ebest ideas to continue making the site better and better.

Then there are moderators who work in the forums. I think I was one of the first moderators after Jenn and Beate, but there are many more. You can see our names if you are in a forum towards teh bottom to see what categories/forums we cover.
*Camsmom (Britta->that's me )
*Jovi
*Sereikastamper (Keri)
*Catie
*Laurelwright
*Ginapier
*JulieHRR (the fearless and super creative driving force behind the Dirty Dozen Gallery:mrgreen: )
*Cambria
*AngFab
*Brownee (Keva)
*StampingWrose (Kathy)
*s1itcher46 (Kim)
*Jami
*Stamp_Momma (Lori)

and there are also Gallery Moderators-these are the wonderful gals who do teh uploads and approvals for the gallery and pretty much keep our uploads rolling!
*Jenn
*Beate
*Cambria
*StamperSharon
*Joyof Stamping
*Water Pixie (Emily)
*Sereikastamper (Keri)
*webseitler (Nicole)
*mkkimber (Kimberly)
*StampinGirl (Tracy)
*tc84742 (Tasha)
*newtnewt (Jessica)
*specialkx3 (Leslie)
*KareninKali

The moderators for the forums and gallery mods all volunteer here. This place basically ROCKS! and I (like most I would guess;) ) are happy to help out at the Happy Place.

As to your otehr questions somebody with more technical know-how will have to answer that. And my apologies if I left anybody out-I think I got everyone. ;)

you can read some of the early history of splitcoast in this article:
Forums at Splitcoaststampers

it's a multi-part series, you'll find links in that story to the other two parts. it's almost a year old now, so some of the references are dated. you'll also see reference to 'part 4' but that has yet to be written.

as to 'volume on the server' we actually have 4 of them. the servers do about 900,000 pages per day, and the pages, images and other files total about a terabyte per month in bandwidth.

splitcoast moderators volunteer all their time, yes. I'm very grateful for all the work they do, and the site couldn't run without them. their numbers have grown and grown, over the last year especially, as our forums have grown and expanded in the range of topics. we get anywhere from 7-10,000 posts a day in the forums alone, and without our moderators we'd devolve from mere mayhem into utter chaos.

besides moderators there are also the group leaders, who fill largely the same role as moderators but for our special user groups - RAK (Random Acts of Kindness, SOF (Stamp Out Fat), and Divine Secret Siblings.

Thanks, Daven, for posting this link. It was very interesting reading the articles on the early history of SCS, and I look forward to Part 4 as well! Since joining SCS over a year ago, not once have I ever felt a lack in customer service. Everyone there at SCS (team members, moderators, volunteers, etc.) has always given well over 100% of themselves. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

What an exciting story. I've always admired people who can start a business (albeit in this case a definite non-profit one) and make it fly. Kudos to you, Daven and Tracy. Daven, you have a real talent for writing - I can't wait for part 4! Thanks to everyone who makes this site happen. It's become the one site I check every day and spend a bunch of time on.

I love the story of SCS and am so happy that I have found the site and am able to enjoy it daily. No more playing Scrabble or other games on the computer for me; no I go directly to SCS to see the lovely additions each day. I thank everyone who is involved for all your answers to questions, inspiration, ideas, etc. This is another wonderful example of the American Dream come true. I'm sure no one is getting rich off of this site but a little ingenuity has gone a long way. Congratulations and thank you all.

Camsmom - Thanks for listing the moderators! I love all that y'all do for us! I think someone compared it to herding cats?

Daven - You and Tracy are the absolute best! This is the BEST place on the net. I love this site and sooooooooooo appreciate you! I love the Fan Club, thanks for that, too!

SCS ROCKS!!!! Thanks to everyone who keeps it running so smoothly!
I'm a proud supporter of a site. If you love this site as much as I do, please consider subscribing to a paid membership. It's better than a stamping magazine, because there is so much information and support here. :p
