Default Rubber stamping mystery novel: Stamped Out

Has anyone ever heard of this book? I thin it was just released in September. A local stamp store is hosting a book signing for this new book on Sunday and i'm going to go get one and have it signed. It's Book one in a series of rubber stamping mysteries. Apparently this author also does quilting mysteries.

I found it on Amazon for $6.99. I'm not a big mystery reader but it sounds interesting.

Read it in September, and it was pretty good. When I mentioned it on my blog, the author left a nice note for me. Enjoy the signing!

I haven't heard of those, but I've read the mytery series by Laura Childs about a scrapbook store owner. Those are good. They also have some good recipes in the back, and projects mentioned in them with directions. They are based in New Orleans, and the series was started before Katrina, and continues after, so it's interesting to read from that point of view.

I am excited to get it. Even if the book ends up not being great, it's only 6.99 and it will be autographed for me (I'll see if I can take a pic with the author, too). I love book signings. I got Ina Garten's Barefoot in Paris cookbook signed as well as Book 11 of Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events (a 7-hour wait!).

My mom actually got it out from the library for me last week....cute. I love the idea and since I usually read the "themed" series ( the bakery one, flower shop etc) this was right up my alley. I was actually a bit on the slow side, but enjoyable with great characters. Plus, I will read anything that combines well, reading and stamping! Have fun at the book signing, tell her we are all waiting for more!!!

Thanks for starting this thread ... it was the push I needed to find the two books I *knew* I bought but forgot where I placed them. Turns out they are the first and second in the series by Laura Childs: "Keepsake Crimes" and "Photo Finished"

I hope to start one on Sunday. I'm waiting because I have lots to do before Saturday and am an *obsessive* reader once I start a book.

I read one of those books and it cracked me up! I had so much fun reading it! It would add details such as: "said so and so as she placed acetate on her scrapbook page to determine if she liked the result." (my paraphrase but similar wording)

Certainly fluff reading, but fun!

Thanks for pointing out the stamping ones. Sometimes I just need fluff.

enjoyed the book, glad I used a discount coupon at Borders.

Default More reading fun!

There's also an author named Elizabeth Bright who writes card-making mysteries. I think there are three so far. They are great fun! I highly recommend them to anyone who loves to both read and stamp.

I bought this book last Friday and I just started it. So far it combines stamping and a mystery....both keep me entertained. This says "first" in a series...so there may be more to follow.

Well, I went yesterday and got the book. I forgot my darn camera to get a picture of me with the author, but here is a picture of the cover and the page that she autographed. She also has quilting mysteries, so I need to get those for a family member who is an avid quilter. I think I forgot my camera in my exhausted daze. I went to bed at 12:30 Saturday night (sunday morning) after staying up on watch from the fires in the area that I live (Chino Hills, CA). I woke up 3 hours later to see the State Park hill behind our house completely on fire. We evacuated (voluntarily) at 4:00 am and waited it out at the neighborhood grocery store with all the other people who evacuated. I'm attaching a pic of theh view from our house when we left. My blog has other pics if you are interested.

Anyhow, back to the subject, the author, Terri Thayer, has a blog that is a combo of 7 writers. They all write on "hobbies that drove them to murder". ROFL. They include the rubber stamping & quilting obviously, needlework, pets, diet & exercise, scrapbooking, miniatures, and crocheting.

Oops, attached the grainy cell phone pic of the fire by mistake. Here's a clearer one when the flames were smaller.

Thanks for mentioning the stamping sisters mystery book by Terri Thayer -- it would make a great Christmas gift.

I happen to be reading the Laura Childs, Motif for Murder right now!

We are safe and everything's back to normal (except for the stinky smoke smell still). There was no school in the entire district because of poor air quality and tomorrow the kids will be home for a 2nd day. They are elated. LOL. Oh, and no houses were damaged in Chino Hills. On the other side of the state park (Yorba Linda) there were a lot of homes lost. Very sad.

If anyone is interested in ordering the Stamped Out book (or either 2 of her quilting books), you can order it from this website and Terri will sign it for you. This is what she said when I emailed her about getting the 2 quilting books signed for gifts:

"If you'd like personalized copies by Christmas, order them online from Always Quilting in San Mateo (http://www.alwaysquiltingonline.com/...t=quiltfiction). That way, I'll be up there in the beginning of December signing books and I can do yours. Just put on the order form exactly who you want it made out to, and if you want it say Merry Christmas in addition to what I usually write."

I went to the library last night and checked out lots for my holiday travel reading (long road trip next week for Thanksgiving). Three of Laura Childs were in one book (Keepsake Crimes, Photo Finished and Bound for Murder). I also got her Motif for Murder and Frill Kill. In addition, I checked out Stamped Out. (Right now I'm also substituting a lot, and they've changed the policy in our district where I can't access the computer without a password--which subs can't get.)

DH thought I was crazy bringing these home. First thing he said was, "You've got it bad!" Didn't he know that already?!?!

I had no idea that there's also a quilting series, needlecraft series, knitting series...

Now... I just wish I didn't have to do anything but read for the next 3 weeks!

and a tea lovers, and coffee lovers series.
so there are mysteries for all of us!

I found a great website tonight for getting the titles of a series listed in correct order:

http://www.fictiondb.com/default.asp?genre=G

And, in case it helps anyone here is part of the list I'll be giving to my hubby tonight (the other things are mostly actual craft stuff but he has declared he won't buy too much of that stuff - we will need to downsize in the next year or two so it makes sense but I still don't like it):

Keepsake Crimes (1st in series)
Photo Finished (2nd in series)
Bound for Murder (3rd in series)
Motif for Murder (4th in series)
Frill Kill (5th in series)
Death Swatch (6th in series)
Tragic Magic (7th in series; l found this title listed elsewhere.)

Elizabeth Bright: Card Making Mystery Series
Invitation to Murder (1st in series)
Deadly Greetings (2nd in series)
Murder and Salutations (3rd in series)

Mary Ellen Hughes: Craft Corner Mystery Series
Wreath of Deception (1st in series)
String of Lies (2nd in series)
Paper-Thin Alibi (3rd in series)

Terri Thayer: Stamping Sisters Mystery Series
Stamped Out (1st in series; not sure if there are other titles yet)

Cleo Coyle: Coffeehouse Mysteries
On What Grounds (1st in series)
Through the Grinder (2nd in series)
Latte Trouble (3rd in series)
Murder Most Frothy (4th in series)
Decaffeinated Corpse (5th in series)

You're welcome ... I guess I should have stated that I only listed scrapbooking/cardmaking or coffee mysteries on my list.

I think the website breaks it down by series when you enter an author's name. I thought it was a great resource (and it is bookmarked on my desktop and DH's laptop since that is what I use when surfing during commercials.)

And, in case it helps anyone here is part of the list I'll be giving to my hubby tonight (the other things are mostly actual craft stuff but he has declared he won't buy too much of that stuff - we will need to downsize in the next year or two so it makes sense but I still don't like it):

Bound for Murder (3rd in series)
Motif for Murder (4th in series)
Frill Kill (5th in series)

Tragic Magic (7th in series; l found this title listed elsewhere.)

Elizabeth Bright: Card Making Mystery Series

Deadly Greetings (2nd in series)
Murder and Salutations (3rd in series)

Mary Ellen Hughes: Craft Corner Mystery Series
Wreath of Deception (1st in series)
String of Lies (2nd in series)
Paper-Thin Alibi (3rd in series)

Terri Thayer: Stamping Sisters Mystery Series
Stamped Out (1st in series; not sure if there are other titles yet)

Cleo Coyle: Coffeehouse Mysteries

Latte Trouble (3rd in series)

You're welcome ... it was the first time I came across the website too and it is bookmarked on my DH's laptop (which I use more than he does) as well as my desktop.

I've read the first 2 in the Laura Childs series and really hope to get all the rest for Christmas. They are fun, quick reads (which is good 'coz there is never enough time to do everything you need/want to do).

I finished the book this weekend. Honestly I think they did not spend enough time on the ending. It felt like it was rushed and kind of leaves the reader with unanswered questions. Maybe that is how they plan to start the next book.
