It is 9:30 and 2:30 for me too. I recorded (TIVO) the 9:30 show but haven't watched it yet. Is the 2:30 the same one only shown at a different time? I can't wait to see it.

I can not get the Crystal Effects to stay in the ring? Anyone know how to make those wire circles flat to the page?

Default Shelli on DIY

I hardly ever have the chance to catch Shelli on tv but was lucky enough to catch it this morning. I am always THRILLED when I see SU! images anywhere.
I am going to have to try the Crystal Effects tip.
I seriously wish that woman could adopt me.

OK, I just watched it and thought that I would making a tag circle as well. I can't get that darn wire to stay down either. What are we doing wrong? I finally just left it and I'll go check in an hour and see if it is dry (and possibly flat). I also went to the DIY website to see if there were any additional instructions and there aren't any. Who can help with this?????? Shelli made it look so easy - well Duh, I should have known that wasn't going to be the case when I tried it. HELP HELP HELP

I just finished watching Shelly on DIY and thought it was great! I love the pages she made! For those of you who do not get DIY, check out the web site at DIYnetwork.com. There are instructions and pictures for this and other fun projects. If you are having a tough time getting your wire to lay flat, try using a mini-glue dot where the ends meet. It is easier with thicker wire and it will take a long time to dry. You might even want to try ripping out the paper from inside your metal edge tags and use that as your border instead of the wire. It is a little more expensive, but is a lot easier!

Ok, I went to the website and didn't see any instructions listed for this particular episode.

I just check my tag ring again and the ends definately are not staying together. I used 24 gauge wire - could that be the problem? If I use a mini glue dot will that show through once the crystal effects dries? I knew that it would take quite a while to dry but I thought that at least the ends would be staying down by now. Aghhhhh!!!!

I haven't seen the show, so I'm guessing that you are referring to using alphadots or something round with the wire rim and crystal effects inside. I've had great success with this - the key is to make sure your wire rings are perfectly round and precisely cut so...
- Wrap your wire around a large Crayola marker (this is the perfect size for the alphadots) at least a dozen times - then squeeze the wire tightly together on the marker to form a tight coil - make sure there are no gaps, bulges or warps at this point.
- Then remove the wire coil and take a very sharp wire cutter and snip each section into a perfectly formed ring (this is a great way to make jump rings as well - just find the right "tool" to form the size of circle you want) at this point your ring should be perfectly flat and well-formed.
- Stamp your images on the cardstock, let them dry and then place a small amount of crystal effects around the outside edge and set the wire in place. Let this dry completely.
- Next cut your circles from the cardstock - set on tinfoil or something that is easy to pull your circles off of if the crystal effects happens to leak - and fill completely with crystal effects. It typically takes a few hours to dry here in the humid NW and so I like to leave them overnight before completing my project.

Hope this lengthy explanation helps those struggling with that wonderful wire!

I just tried it in my stamping room, and your right! It is very hard to get it to lay flat. I used my crafters tool kit to try and close the edges (which worked), but once I poured the crystal effects on, it curled up a little. I twisted the wire around a reinker a couple of times and cut the middle circle of wire out. It seemed to have fewer kinks than the first and last twists had. I sprinkled some dazz diamonds on the wet crystal effects, so hopefully no one else will notice my kinked circle! I do believe that glitter solves all problems!! I guess I will find out when it dries.

I just went to the DIY website and saw Shelli's episode listed with a discription of what was going to be shown but I saw no other details or pictures. Where can I find that info? Can someone post a link maybe? Thanks!!

Default Experiment

I could not get the wire flat. The CE oozed out and made the wire "float". Of the three I did, only one would be remotely useable when it finishes drying. (Boy it is hard not to touch it.)

However, I did go to Michael's in the interim. The Value Pack finings were on sale. I bought split rings (key ring loops).Based on size, I got packs of 28 and 32 for $1.50.

I have now stamped my image and added the CE again. No problem. I thought it might be too bulky, but I don't think so. I just hope I can keep my hands off them until they dry.

Ellen - this is exactly what we are trying to do. Thanks for your explanation. I'll have to try again later because now the kiddos are up and home from school too so my play time is done for today!! LOL
