Default Real Red Watercolor crayon

I know this has been discussed previously. Just really began using my WWC tonight, and the Real Red is NOT Red but rather a color similiar to Rose Red. The Rose red crayon is definately a different shade, so there are not 2 of the same. Is everyones like this? Just wondering! Linda Seaman

I agree. They are two different colors but the Real Red doesn't seem really red. I will keep checking back to see if there are more of us. Thanks for posting this, I had kind of forgotten about this "issue".

You are right. Watercolor by nature is lighter than an ink pad, but I think the real red WCC could be made more red. Using a blender pen or a very minimal amount of water helps a little.

I completely agree, I was very disappointed when I went to make my Christmas cards using Real Red paper and the WCC and used the Real Red crayon and it turned oh so "pink". (first of all it took me forever to find it, because I was sure that it wasn't the right one - yes I know the name is on the side, but I couldn't believe it was that color). I knew it would be lighter, but never the same color as Rose Red.

I had the same issue. Are there two colors we can blend together to make the real red a little more bold? I might go play with that for a bit. I noticed this while a few days ago while watercoloring some red apples. They turned out to be pink apples. I thought I had created a new fruit. ;)

You can try adding a teeny weeny bit of black. This will darken the value of the red. Also try coloring heavier and just using the brush or blender pen to smooth out the lines.

If you can't get the red you're looking for, try an art supply store. I have one in my neighborhood and they are selling watercolor crayons individually. I think they are about $1 per crayon. The brand I bought is CE. I have the SU crayons, but wanted more colors. The CE brand has somewhere between 150 to 200 colors I believe.

I bought a small set (12) of watercolor crayons at Hobby Lobby, just so I would have black and white, but I noticed that the red is actually RED, not pink. I think it was worth the $$ just to have those 3 colors
