Default Quenstion for Australians

My boss and his wife are going to Australia next month to visit their daughter and son-in-law. The son-in-law is Australian, and his mother does some paper crafts. I know she makes some cards because she sends a hand made card for Christmas, but we don't know what sort of other things she's interested in. Also, the last card she sent (the only one I have seen) was not stamping, but an iris folding technique card. My boss would like to take some papercrafting thing for her. So if you are living in Australia, and could have something from JoAnn's, Michael's, AC Moore, or Target, what would you like. I must add that they do not have luggage space for something like a Cuttlebug!
I know it's kind of a vague request, but any help would be appreciated.

Red face

This is a hard question to answer. Depending where she lives she may or may not have a lot of srapbooking stores near her. Over here our discount type stores, K-Mart, Big W and Target only sell limited amount of craft stuff (Target is really nothing). In craft chain stores we have Spotlight and Lincraft , these can carry alot or not depending on their size. In scrapbook stores we have papers from all USA companies as well as Aust. There are very few stamping shops around but those that are carry most brands available. We do have Cuttlebug, sizzix, Cricut etc here but they are at least double the USA prices. This really doesn't seem to help much. If it were me recieving the gift I would appreciate any papers, cards, ribbons. We can never have too much of the basics. What about a few packets of embellishments?
Good luck

If you can find out if she is into colouring at all then I could suggest a packet of prisma watercolour pencils. They are verrrry expensive here.

Pretty much everything that you can get in the US is WAY more expensive over here. Pens/pencils/punches/pastels are good ideas if they don't stamp. Anything cuttlebug/sizzix (if she has a machine). I'm hoping to travel to the US in May and find out more about Michaels and Joann's because we don't have them here. Perhaps he could find out a bit more about her craft beforehand and buy accordingly. Does she have a blog?

Thank you for your replys. We tried to get more info by asking her son to find out what she may want, but he never remembers to ask. She lives in Gimpie.
I'm thinking about maybe a 8x8 DCWV Stacks like the Old World, Luxury, Pocket Full of Posies, or Far East (http://www.diecutswithaview.com/products.php?id=21). Do you have these available in Australia? I think we might also buy a couple of Scribbles like the crystal glitter, gold, and silver. These work like Stickles, but are found in the fabric paint department, and are half the price!
Let me know what you think about these ideas.

since she does iris folding cards - I would suggest some double sided designer scrapbook paper...

I just checked exactly where Gympie is and it is Queenland, 160 km from Brisbane (capital city) and only has a population of 14,500, so it is small. I would say she would be happy with what you are suggesting. We do have thses papers here and the Stickles and Kindy Glitz ranges here but she might not have ready access to alot, I don't know how far she would be from the nearest bigger town with craft stores. I have these papers, Once upon a time & Far east and love them.
We don't have any of the Martha Stewart range as stated by Bluelemon.
PS Wattle, my LSS is getting the nestabilites in for me, I am always telling her about the things I hear about on SCS and she gets in what I want.
It is always so hard to buy for someone else.

How good is that Misha! I'd love to have a look at nestabilities!!!

I grew up not far from Gympie - probably more than 14500 people, but still small and believe me, not much there! I'm sure she'd be happy with anything mentioned! Bigger stores on the Sunshine Coast are about an hour away....but still, Australia doesn't have anywhere near the range of the USA.

Maryborough is about an hour away north of Gympie. There's one cardmaking shop that I know of there. A friend of mine owns it. I think there's another at Hervey Bay. Depending on whether she drives a lot or just stays in Gympie itself.
I'm sure she would like what you bought for her. The thought always counts.

How bizzare! If the card shop you are talking about is the Scrapbook Traditions on Bazaar St - my Mum goes there all the time and knows the owner's mother!!!! The cardmaking shop in Hervey Bay just closed down! (Sorry for going Off Topic)

My girlfriend owns Ann Lorrae's Card Making in the city centre of Maryborough. It's just around the corner or close to the Scrapbooking shop.
Sorry off topic again.

[QUOTE=Wattle;8687656]How good is that Misha! I'd love to have a look at nestabilities!!!

Sorry wattle I didn't notice the above. Yes as I am addicted to SCS I hear and see about alot before we would normally, so I send Debbie pics, links etc and let her know what I am interested in. Her shop is primarily stamping not scrapping. She also deals mostly directly with the companies in the USA. The Australian distributors don't carry all the lines or they take too long to become available here. I think considering the prices we have to pay here we should at least have access to full lines.
We are expecting any time the new cuttlebug embossing folders, I gave her the heads up on these last year and the release dates so she put in her order last year. And if she orders from the USA it is usually here in under 2 weeks. How lucky am I of course it is bad for the old bank balance but what the heck why not have fun now.
