Default wierd pronunciations...

I'm watching the Today show as I write this and one that Matt Lauer does alllllll the time that really bugs me is "we should move foe-ward (forward said with no r). My neighbor was diagnosed with breast cancer and she told me that she had just had her autopsy! She meant biopsy! I tutor adults that are learning to read and many times I have been corrected by them on my pronunciation of words that they have butchered for so many years that they are convinced that their way is correct (it's not lathe, it's LAY!) Yikes!

My mother-in-law always says "Friskers" when she's talking about "Fiskars" as in the scissors/paper-trimmers manufacturer. Drives me nuts!

this is funny...i am good with the bazzill, cricut, but was unaware of the Cope-ick. interesting..

About wassail, i'm not sure if its the same as what BG is referring to, but i know in the song "here we come a-wassailing.." I thought that just meant caroling or whatever, but my DH informed me that wassail, is actually a type of drink, i think like a spicey warm thing...and he actually made it in home economics in high school. Thought that was interesting.

Here's a funny one: My DIL comes from a really small Oklahoma town. She always talks about when she was a teenager, and they got in their cars and went "gallibatting" around, instead of galivanting.

Yes! Grosgrain is pronounced grow-grain. Or more correctly groh-greyn

Dictionary.com can help with actual words. The made up manufacturer's names are another story. I said cry-cut until I saw the little cricket on the Cricut® box.
