I was wondering how does everyone store their ink pads?? I just had my 1st Stampin Up workshop and I got a ton of ink pads. I used to store them in shoebox size rubbermaid container before, but that is just not working now. It is too hard to see what I have.
Does anyone have the new Stampin Up ink pad storage thing?? Is it worth the money? Does it store the old style of Stampin Up ink pads???
My demo has the ink pad storage from SU, and I found it to be very hard to turn (doesn't turn smooth at all) and tippy (almost every time I turned it, ink pads would fly out b/c it would start to tip) :( ...I have a handmade wood caddy that someone made for me that turns very smoothly and is very sturdy.
I have the color caddy and haven't had any problems with it. I like that it stores the reinkers in the top also. I have seen other people post about ink pad storage options that are on eBay. My UL has a really cool wooden one that someone made for her. However, now she has a complete set of old and a complete set of new, so I don't know how she is storing both of them.
Hi! I have gone to Lowe's (I am sure Home Depot or whatever is near you) and gotten a "bolt bin" type storage shelf. Mine has 16 drawers. It has clear slide out drawers that each hold 3 ink pads perfectly. It sits right on my desk and I can see all of my colors. They are right at my finger tips. The best part is that it only cost $14.95. It blows my mind that people spend so much on storage. This works perfect and is cost effective! Good luck!
My awesome downline gave me a fellows cassette tape holder that works wonderfully!! It spins nice and holds 48 pads with spaces in between each pad for easy access. It's a great little system. I absolutely love it.
I have the SU caddy and love it. I have never had my pads fly out. Now, the thing doesn't "spin," but I really wouldn't want it to (having kids, a spinning caddy sounds like a combination for a disaster, if you ask me). It turns easily, though, and I like that it takes up a minimum of space. It is also not too heavy to move. I will move it from my stamp desk to the large countertop during hostess club meetings and crops.
I have the new SU storage caddy, and it does turn - but not spin. I keep reinkers, mono-adhesive, bone folder, scissors, and other little doo-dads in the top. I love it - I just pick it up and I'm off to go. The ink pads kind of click in, so I haven't had a problem with them flying out.
I had the same problem as you when I bought it. A box too small, and too hard to see what I had. This is great!

I went to Michaels and bought little wooden crates. I set them on end which makes a tower. The new ink pads fit in there perfectly. For all 24 you probably need 4. I'm in the process of buying the new style and passing on the old style eto my daughter. Seems to work for me.
The new SU! ink pad caddy was designed for the new-style pads. I think people have had to do a little engineering of their own to get the old-style ones to fit properly. I've heard there is a storage box at Home Depot that makes a very good caddy for the old-style pads. I've never been able to find it myself (gave up looking when I learned it held the old-style pads and I have the new ones), so I'm not sure exactly what it looks like.

I have all of the old style pads and keep them in an old cassette tape holder. They fit PERFECT! The holder holds all 48 pads, plus the few extra pads I have. I always store my pads upside down. I don't think you have to do this with the new pads because of the way they flip open. They are already stored upside down. Oh, I bought my holder through Viking for around $11.00.
I absolutely love my SU ink pad caddy! Both old and new style pads fit in there, without any adjustments to the caddy. One of my friends just got one too because she liked mine. I would recommend it to anyone.

how do the old style pads fit it the new caddy thing from SU? I thought they didn't fit, and so wrote that thing off, as I have a combination of some old, some new style pads. If they do fit, I woud give that some thought again...

The people we bought our house from used to sell Amway. They had four of these case holders left on the wall. For years I wonder what we could do with them. Well one day I took a pad downstairs and tried it and it fit perfectly. My husband took it down and moved it for me and now I store my ink, ribbon, versamark, cartfridges, Stazon, Spectrum pads, and mono on that thing. I wish now they would have left more than four cause I have given two away and don't know if I want to keep the other for me or give it away as well. Everyone wants the thing.
I guess my point is anything made for cassettes should work great.
I have the SU! Color Caddy and LOVE it! Mine turns nicely and the ink pads stay put. The smaller, old ones, fit in to, but don't "click" in like the new ones.

I am so glad to find out that both styles will fit into the caddy. I would love to have all of ink pads be the new style....but, I have to have some selfcontrol. Don't I ?
thank for the tips about the cassette storage ideas too. I am going to have to check out the electronic dept. next time I am at Wal-Mart.
I found a wooden ink pad storage caddy while searching on the internet. It is more $ than the Stampin up caddy, but it is made out of wood. It is made by CDJ Designs. Anyone heard of them?
The new-style ink pads are much bigger than an audio cassette.
The stamp pads are wider than a cassette but the length and height is the same which means that some cassette storage units work very well. I have the fellowes and love it! Unfortunately the website has sold out of them. But there may be some other cassette holders around that would work.
I ressurected an old CD case Case Logic brand that was designed to hold 60 cd's, it is divided into 4 compartments, and each one holds 12 new style pads perfectly. It also has a zip case that has a handle on it, so it was a great garage find. I see them on ebay now and then, if you can get one at a good deal I reccomend them, I am starting to get a bigger collection of craft pads and I am contemplating whether or not to get the SU caddy and keep the CD one for my craft pads . . . .decisions, decisions . . ..
I've looked for a cassette holder at Walmart and other places - can't find one! Everything is for CDs. I've been checking the Good Will stores hoping to find something. I did see one finally but there was a "NOT FOR SALE" sign on it.

yikes - that's expensive for something where the pads just stack on top of each other. for the same price, i'd go ahead and get the SU color cadddy thing. at least each pad has it's own slot, plus there is that neat storage thing on top. and the added bonus is that it gets you almost halfway to a "party" and the hostess benefits that come with it!

You can also check out this website that has several different styles of ink and accessories holders. The high end ones are pretty expensive but they hold a lot. I don't personally own any of these but wouldn't mind hearing an opinion on them if any of you own one. They look very tempting to me...
I found a guy in Canada who makes customer stamp pad carousels. I got one with 120 slots made from solid wood for $75 and a paper holder that is 14x14x36 and has 72 shelves also made of solid wood for $120. Let me know if you are interested and I will pm you his email.

This sounds EXACTLY like what I have too! I purchased mine at Menards. You can see a picture of them in my gallery. They sit at the front of my work table, right at my fingertips!! They hold both the old and new SU stampin' pads!
