Question re: Carl Cutter use

I got my new Carl Cutter a couple of weeks ago, but I can't figure out how I'm supposed to cut a small piece of paper down to 1 1/2 inches or less. For instance, if I want to cut a 2" wide strip of paper into 1 inch strips, the cutting track thing covers the measurement guide from 0 to around 2 inches, so I can't line up the paper at the 1 inch mark, much less hold onto it for stability. It would be completely underneath the track mechanism. I still have to get out my Fiskars portable cutter. Am I expecting too much for $29.99?? Or am I missing something here?

Carl is notsogood in such tight spots. I use my personal Fiskars for little pieces.

Yep - what Jenn said! I think it even said on the box that it doesn't cut less than 2".

Get out that Fiskars! I love my Carl Cutter for cutting a lot of cardstock fast!

I bought one of the heavy duty Carls and I find that the smaller the piece of CS, the more crooked it cuts. :( Sad but true, the old Fiskars standby (original Fiskars, not the new "Euro" trimmer) rules for the small bits.

Well, at least I'm not overlooking some trick to it! I guess I'll keep using the Fiskars for the little pieces. How much cardstock can you cut at one time? And do you have to put a lot of pressure on the handle? I don't want to strong-arm it and break it!

I have gone completely nuts with cutters!

Carl does the big and bulky stuff.

Fiskers does the fancy cuts as I have meny decorative wheels.

Creative Memories personal cutter does the fussy bits and pieces.

I've lost it!
