I'm working on cards for a swap and I'm using my upline's SU eyelets (I'm a new demo, so I don't have the SU ones yet). I have the Making Memories ToolKit and I'm finding that the Anywhere Hole Punch punches a hole that's slightly bigger than the SU eyelet! Has anyone else found this? Yes, I'm sure I'm using the right Anywhere punch attachment - the one for 1/8".
The results are okay - it looks great from the front, but not so good from the back - I didn't get those nicely flatted prongs spread out over the hole's rim (hard to explain, but you guys know what I mean!). But since that panel is adhered to another panel, that part doesn't show.
Tomorrow my huge first Hostess Order will arrive, with all my SU eyelets. But my SU Tool Kit will follow later since it was backordered.
this has not been a problem for me but i do know that the harder or longer one hits the hole punch with the hammer the bigger the hole can be... hope this helps
Hmmmm I have the MM tool kit too, and I have never experienced this problem. Maybe you have a funky tip??? Maybe I'm just not as detail oriented as you are? I've been known to lose my own children (important detail.) Take today at the zoo for instance...yes, started walking away from my own child at the zoo. Whoops! Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it too much...just put eyelets through the top layer only when you can!

Congrats on that first big order!!! How fun. I'm just wondering if you knew...If you CAN reach the area with hand held whole punches, you can punch the whole AND set the eyelet with the hand punches and skip all the pounding. It only works with SU eyelets though, since ours are make of aluminum and bend easily. (A great selling point!) Good luck.
I have never had a problem with my MM tool kit and my SU eyelets. But I am aware of a problem with a batch of our eyelets that was smaller than usual. My Grand upline ordered a bunch for our Open House and about had a coronary when she discovered that they weren't fitting properly in the holes of the make and takes. So, I wouldn't assume that there's a problem with the MM kit. My guess is it's that bad batch of eyelets!
I give the back of the eyelet a whack too - just to flatten out the crimpie do - thingies. My MM tips seem to have dulled quickly too - anyone else with that problem? I don't think it should take more than 2 good whacks on a hard surface to get thru 2 layers.
In my experience with SU! eyelets, they don't split and flatten (the way you described) in the same way other eyelets do.

I've found that also! Is it because I am above sea level?? Is my brain lacking oxygen?? I've found that the MM eyelets are easier to split than the SU ones. I haven't tried the punch method either. So much to try! I guess my family can forget about dinner tonight. I just baked bread. They can have that with some water.
I have the MM tool set also and I have found that if I hit the tool more than once with the hammer I do get a larger hole. I guess that is just reflex and I need to only whack one time. None of my SU eyelets have ever split, but I have noticed that others have that I purchased at Michaels or Joanns.

Punch your hole in the paper with the 1/8" handheld punch.
Put your eyelet in. Turn over, place the 1/16" punch THROUGH the BACK of the eyelet and squeeze, sqeeze, sqeeze the punch.
Okay, original poster here. Thanks so much, everyone, for responding! When doing my swaps, I used the gray SU eyelets, like I said. Then I made a couple extra just for myself and I used black Joann's eyelets and y'know what? The J's has a much longer "flange"? Is that the word? The sticking through the cardstock-thingey is longer!!! So when I set it, it spread out really nice!!
So now that I ordered TONS of SU eyelets (I'm a new demo) and the Crafter's ToolKit (to demo - I have the MM one), you mean they don't spread out the same in the back? The SU ones that I set didn't even look (from the back) like they would stay!!
I guess you're all using SU eyelets and they work for you (esp the demos that need to use the SU ones!). It just seems weird. I thought it was that the hole seemed a tiny bit too big, but it seems to be the eyelets, not my punch. I was hammering through a layer or cardstock and a layer of embossed vellum.
Okay ~ just a couple of things. One, you can only hand set with the punches the small round eyelets. Didn't see that said, but I'm reading at work. Two ~ you have to have excellent grip strength to set the eyelets with a punch. I don't and after two or three, my wrist really hurts.
And last, when I do my SU punches, they do flare. But then again, it's probably the setting tool I'm using. And I have, because of my hands maybe, had the SU ones come out when I've done them with the hand held punch. Everyone has varying success with different methods, for me whacking the heck out of them with a hammer works best!
