Post to get rid of certain ads...

Since the ads that appear on this forum appear to be specific to the user of the computer, I am making a false post here in the stamping forum that I am too thin, thin, thin.

I am anorexic. I am not making fun of anorexics, as I know that anorexia is a very serious disease. Just trying to get rid of a certain ad, which if I mention it here, I will just get more of!!

Get it google??;)

Sibylle 01-22-2008 04:52 AM

Sorry Joan, you lost me. Perhaps you'd care to explain?

rockfestqueen 01-22-2008 04:54 AM

Joan,
I think it worked, I don't see the ad right now!!
Whoo Hoo for you!

Joan B 01-22-2008 04:56 AM

ok, there are certain ads aimed at f a t people on this site. i think only folks who have discussed that issue on line see those ads, although I could be wrong. I'm sick of seeing wait (purposely spelled wrong) loss ads everytime I come to the stamping forum! so I'm posting about the opposite issue on the theory that google will stop the offending ads!

The more I write about this the dumber I sound. ...

scoutpup 01-22-2008 05:01 AM

I am following you, I think it is funny because I see an ad for help for eating disorders now. LOL haven't seen one of those before! LOL

Jodi

markie's mom 01-22-2008 05:04 AM

OMGosh...I see ads about scouting!!! LOL! I think Joan is right! I have mentioned camping, and cub scouts lots of times! How funny!

susiestampr 01-22-2008 05:09 AM

Someone had posted a message about changing vcr tape to dvd, and lo and behold there was an ad at the bottom for software to do this, I thought how ironic. Susie

mztamela 01-22-2008 05:11 AM

I didn't know they did that. Kind of creepy to be spied on like that all the time. Hmmmm.....

stamp_momma 01-22-2008 05:12 AM

That's a scream. As an advertising manager here at SCS, I get google ads for 'more sales leads'....

Of course, I'm not to good at it if I didn't know that already. Thanks, Joan. :)

pjw2855 01-22-2008 05:15 AM

I see no ads on my monitor when I log onto this site. There is one banner ad but that's it. You can turn off additional ads and pop-up windows on your computer if you don't want them.

Patti,

The banner ad space is what Joan is referring, too. We don't allow pop-ups or the like, but we do use google type media ads to supplement our advertising program. You should always have something in your page header, banner spot. :)

divafmw 01-22-2008 05:21 AM

Well this is even scarier - I've just come on here and the banner at the bottom is referring to ladies who like other ladies if you get my meaning - are they getting at us again then! LOL! I'll look at all these in a different light now!

kphorse 01-22-2008 05:25 AM

I think it is awful we have to have this kind of ads on this site! Wish there was a way to stop them!

i'm with you karen. however, i think the ads provide income to SCS that allows the team to continue offering a great site to us addicts... er, i mean stampers :) so, i can deal with it. i just try to ignore them if it's something i'm not interested in.

...so, will i start seeing detox program ads now? ;)

Hambo 01-22-2008 05:51 AM

If the theory holds true Joan, then I should start seeing ads for pool services, because I've been searching for a Pool Boy ... forever! LOL

I am getting those same ads. As a SAHM, I have no idea why I would get those ads. I would think I would get stuff about not losing your mind when your kids don't listen to you, or how to get someone to help out without screaming, etc. etc.
(Sorry it has been a bad morning.)

Joan B 01-22-2008 06:05 AM

ok, let's try Brad Pitt and see what happens!!!

hedgiemama 01-22-2008 06:08 AM

I am going to mention healthy soup recipes.
Beef and Barley
Chicken Noodle
Chili
Let's see what happens!:D

gerrier2 01-22-2008 06:10 AM

Funny, I didn't even notice the ads until you mentioned them. I'm here to look for stamping/scrapbooking ideas and don't pay attention to much else

pattyb 01-22-2008 06:15 AM

He,he,he...all the ads in the headline banner that I see are stamping and travel related:)

While I am stamping addicted, I don't do much traveling!

I'd like to see an ad on bulk buy products that I can alter

Hey, I want a pool boy too!
(Don't know how I will explain that one to my dh as we don't have a pool tho!):)

frankie 01-22-2008 06:18 AM

Joan you're too funny!

Those feedback ads by Google must be based off the Google searches you do on your PC. I always get stuff for the weird things the kids and I have googled recently. Currently the one on this page (for me) is for audiophiles -- a website for those interested in vinyl albums, which DS#1 is, and has googled about in the last few days.

Maybe we should all google chocolate!

SUMaryEllen 01-22-2008 06:19 AM

I would suggest that if you find an ad that you find offensive that you forward the www. part of the ad (example- I see an ad for rubber stamps from www.iprint.com - that is what they need) to this site owners. They can ban the site thru Google if they do not want the ad displayed on this site.

Mhewett 01-22-2008 06:21 AM

Well, that explains a lot. I kept noticing these "Husker" ads and other ads for places in Nebraska and I couldn't believe they'd show up on SCS. I suppose since I have Omaha as my location, I'm getting all of the husker crap.

robynstamps 01-22-2008 06:22 AM

Good idea Joan!!! I don't see anything but ads for Spyware. Hmmmm, is there something you are not telling us?? This would be a great distraction. :)

11Valerie11 01-22-2008 06:26 AM

Hmmm, mine shows an ad for creating your own banner....think it's confused now? All these tangents it doesn't know where to go! But I do like the pool boy idea - now, where's my pool and towel?

JulieHRR 01-22-2008 06:31 AM

ROTFLMBOPIMP!

momis mama 01-22-2008 06:38 AM

i have a pool! i have a pool!

and... sssshhhhh... i am sleeping with the pool boy!

he's my huban! LOL

last i looked the one i saw was for adhesives- but i have only been THINKING that i need to get more. aaaaahhhhh!

I've decided the pool isn't necessary, for now. The pool boy will need some job training, which could take a while. ;)

Mrs.Mike 01-22-2008 06:39 AM

My ads are about cell phones and stamping ringtones.

jailbirdstamper 01-22-2008 06:40 AM

oh my - you made me spit out my diet coke! rofl
I should be getting ads about court, crime or murder because that is what I am usually looking at.

Is that a Cuban husband?? A Cuban pool boy would be okay.

llevans 01-22-2008 06:59 AM

This thread is too funny!

SherryLC05 01-22-2008 07:00 AM

All of my banner ads are for stamping products- guess they hit that nail right on the head! That's all I think about anymore. LOL! But I just thought it was because this is a stamping website.....hmm.......it may be fun to experiment with this.

What's a stamping ringtone?? I want one!

Erin *who loves stamps, and chococat, friend of Hello Kitty*

wouldn't Hello Kitty google ads be fun?

Erin K 01-22-2008 07:02 AM

prolly pretty entertaining!

pjw2855 01-22-2008 07:13 AM

I see the color of the ad as the page opens, but I could never tell you what it says, I don't pay any attention to it. I'm here for the site info, not a bunch of solicitation! But then again, most sites do the same thing.

Patti

SherryLC05 01-22-2008 07:18 AM

Ha ha ha! I just noticed that the ad at the top (and bottom) of the page is for cleaning products! I am always posting about how I have to clean the house before I can stamp (which is true again today...)! This is cracking me up now! :)
