I am gonna be so dead when my cc bill comes in. Better get that job fast! I just placed my first new catty order! Just over $450! There was just so much I had to have now! I also had to take advantage of the special too...and I never have enough to get a Level 2 hostess set or the Appreciation set. Plus I have made my minimum for this quarter and I already have about 1/2 of the bill saved up from scrimping and saving.
Mel......if DH knew about half of what I spent.......I would most certainly be single, and have a lot of great stampin' stuff. Oh, and my old dog. That would be about it!!
;)
Like I rationalized the other day.....he likes woodworking tools. They're $800 a piece! So if I spend half of that, and gets LOTS of stuff, I'm actually ahead of him and a smart shopper.
Right?! Right, ladies?! (You all HAVE to agree!)

Oh, yeah! Been there, done that! This sounds all to familiar to me! And I'm doing it again next week! I always get nervous when he just happens to have the day off that my order is delivered--and he asks who is all that stuff for?! Ummm...
My dh is home this week and I 've gotten packages every day from SU. I told him it was stuff that was on backorder (heehee), but he doesn't know how much my credit card is this month. Luckily the card is in my name!
I've rationalized about the woodworking stuff to. He spends $100 of dollars on saws and wood for his hobby, then the "little" I spend on stamping and scrapping is just peanuts right? And at least I demonstrate to pay for my stamping addiction.

After four years of being a demonstrator, I said to my husband "just think of all the money we've saved on greeting cards!" He laughed that kind of crazy mad scientist laugh and said "This is NOT about saving money!!" Then he said sweetly "It's about you being happy!" AWWWWW. Let's just say he was richly rewarded for his kindness that day!
My DH doesn't complain(doesn't dare to) after all he spends on his toys. It will take me a long time to catch up. One of his toys cost as much as I spend all year. So I am in good shape. But he still always ask what I ordered, not that it matters anyways.
Oh Mel, I am sitting here LMHO between you and Debbi's posts. OMG, I would have to move to Canada and move in with Debbi, because I believe that I would be just as single as she would be. Next month (August), I am the hostess of our monthly workshop and I have been plotting and planning how much can I spend Hmmmm. All I know is my credit card is in myname and the bill comes in my name and my dh doesn't open my mail. He's not like me. I would open his in a heart beat, but I think that he thinks he would have a heart attack right then and there is he opened my mail. So, he doesn't want to know. Debbi, if I ever did have to move can I bring my dog with me?
I have so much extra from all of you giving to Coleton for the shower and I am so feeling guilty buying his scrapbook stuff....I mean, I know it will be a great investment for our family history but I am such a pennywise pennypincher that I can't help but say, hmmm maybe I should put a little towards the scrapbook and the rest into his college fund....BUT THEN I SAY WHAT FUN IS THAT??? And I know all you Aunties are just dying for me to make his first page!! LOL I am going to put my order in on Monday or Tuesday so that it is on my August total sales since it will increase my monthly rebate! What do you think of that plan?
And I know all you Aunties are just dying for me to make his first page!!
Keri,
Please don't feel guilty! This is our GIFT to you and baby Coleton! And we WANT you to spend it on stampin'/scrappin' STUFF! Our reward will be seing the pages that you post. This Cyber Auntie says, "spend it, spend it!" Okay, spend it next week so you get the credit for August. ;)
[quote="brandon & Alex's mom"]My dh is home this week and I 've gotten packages every day from SU. I told him it was stuff that was on backorder (heehee)
Hee hee is right!!! My DH is home every day (retired) and that is the story I tell him!!! He really believes that SU! needs to get their act together!
Just do it! Those scrapbooks will be such treasures! To me, gift money is for fun, and even a little frivolity. College funds are important too, but that is money earned just like paying bills. My SIL used to take her gift $ and buy groceries! Not because she couldn't afford them, but just because well, there's the money.
As to the OP. It helps a lot when your husband's hobby is more expensive than yours! My husband rides dirt bikes (ka-ching) and he's always ordering dirt bike junk. So a few hundred dollars worth of stamps is mild in comparison!
Keri, don't you dare feel guilty. Please, spend this money however you want. I am anxious to see Coleton's first page also. Everything that you got and I am sure there is more coming is our gift to you. So enjoy all of it.
I know what you mean...I posted something similar to this the other night! Stampers have another talent...Rationalization! I think we are all pretty good at that! Have fun with your new toys when you get them
LOL....you are too much, ladies!! And I'm totally crackin' up about the picture, still.....(rmower, I picked up some depends ;) today!!!)...robin changed it for me and that stems from a different conversation!! I love the Dr.!!
Sandy Hill ~ my dog hates other dogs. She's almost 16 though (next month!) and she's not got long left realistically!! But whatever will you do on the Queen Charlotte Islands?! I mean, you can beachcomb....and see some pretty amazing sights.....think Alaska!! We're so close!! But once Shelby's gone......
DH is finally, although somewhat begrudgingly, admitting that I "really like that stamping stuff" and has started to back off! He sees how excited I get about it. He's now talking about getting a boat!! Like the word "Marine" in front of any part doesn't jack the cost through the roof!!
We need to feed our habits. Simple. Why fight it?! It's like chocolate...it's non-negotiable!

See I am not not onkly keeping a secret about what I spend! What a relief!! Well my DH is going to play with the boys for an entire weekend to the tune of $500 so $350 isn't so bad!
I don't try to hide what I spend. I just tell him and if he doesn't like it...I point out his 1) Everquest bill 2) Horizons bill 3) City of Heroes bill 4) that $400 video card he HAD to have last month 5) all the money he spent on unfinished projects that are in the shed. Oh and 1, 2, and 3 are online role play games that he plays for 4-5 hours a day.
I stamp and smile knowing that I love stamping almost as much as I love my husband.
Ok so I play City of Heroes too...I pay for it with my instant income!
No credit cards here either...those things are EVIL!
Y'all are cracking me up about ...... "rewarding" your husbands, "backordered" stamps, "retrieving" the credit card bills before hubby gets home.... comparing their hobby costs to your stamping costs... I have done ALL of these... we all really have a lot in common.
My hubbies hobby is "farming" so he has the big $$,$$$.$$ farm equipment that he buys.... and cows..... well, I'll just say he has had to take a few to the sale barn to help pay the credit card bill for my stamping hobby! gotta love them cows!
I am fortunate to have a husband who has an expensive hobby (black powder rifles & shooting).....my piddly little stamp purchases don't even make the radar screen
However, I must stress that it is extremely important that you show interest in your DH items as they arrrive in the mail....much "oh-ing and ahh-ing" over the new gadgets is necessary to instill in him that his purchases are validated....when yours arrive , he would be churlish to not to the same! Dr. Laura would be proud of me, don't you think?!

If you already have 1/2 of the bill saved, you could make an early payment on the credit card. That might lessen the shock for your DH as well as show him you're serious about paying for your order.
I'll be placing my order on Mon or Tuesday but I have a separate credit card for SU! purchases so my DH won't see the total. Then, as long as I have enough $$ between my SU! account and my allowance to pay the bill at the end of the month, my DH doesn't have anything to complain about!.
Yesterday I had some explaining to do when my neighbor and I got our heafty SU order. I simply explained that I am a stamping addict and can't help myself. He said, "Dear...Stamping isn't an addiction...It's a
passion!" I liked that! Guess that means all is forgiven!
lol! When I was working it wasn't so bad. I am looking for a job right now. I want my own money and to help boost our house savings faster. My dh is not a tightwad but he doesn't have any expensive hobbies yet... He will be getting his fishing lic. in Jan. so we shall see what new equipment he will need lol. His argument has always been that if he buys that new rifle or fishing pole it will put food on the table and save us some grocery money. (sidenote: my dh has only gone fishing once. and around here ya really need a boat to get on the ocean and then ya need a boat large enough to handle halibut and king salmon) So we shall see. Most of the folks around here have boats and altho the boats themselves are not too expensive the motors are.
I am home all day and the card is in my name so I should be ok. I will just have to not sit on our bed and put them all together at once.
Dh asked how much I made by selling my retired sets on Ebay, and when I told him I actually detected a bit of relief. lol I had told him that stamps were a good investment b/c I can resell. Plus he called yesterday to tell me that his stepmother's cousin was killed in a car crash and we needed to send a card. hehehehe...card went in the mail today. I think he likes that part of my stamping. Just doesn't think having an addiction to anything is good. Silly man! lol

Oh Mel.......you SO don't have to tell me! DH wants to get a boat and motor. Told him truck first (so we can tow it). He was a fishing guide for years. We have a LOT of fishing tackle. Now he hunts. 3 guns. And he does woodworking. Expensive tools. That's why I'm not panic stricken!!!

Adam wants a boat too but I added a step in to the process even further than qcbetty...I said to have a boat we need a truck to have a truck we need a driveway and to have a drive way we need the HOUSE for it to go with so that is our priority list...house driveway truck boat...Well we have the truck, he is currently STILL working on getting it all back together...and we have the boat all picked out and we get to pick out the house once Pilot training is done...another year and a half!!! But when I look at boat to stamps...I have the cheaper nicer additiction...I make others happy with my addiction everyday!!! Of course, I am totally wanting the boat too since I went up on the one we really like...but house first!!! lol
Mel, sure have missed you posting!
Keri and Mel,
My husband is like both of yours combined! He started out fishing (yep, he's an Alaskan through and through) in which we spent lots and lots of money on an old. slow, but big fishing boat so we could make some money fishing for salmon (which we did until Exxon spilled all that oil, then we quit, but that is another story!) Now, his hobby is building a 4 passenger airplane from plans in our 2 car garage (Keri, tell your husband it is a high performance, canard design)! He started it in a 1 car garage, then we moved to a new state and *had* to get a house with a 2-car garage, with only one big door to get the fuselage of the plane out alright! Both my children have been born since he started this project and we have never, ever parked our other vehicles in the garage since they have been born (my oldest is 10)!
Keri, I missed the thread about your 4Runner yesterday. We also have an old 4runner (gotta spend all our money on the airplane!) and my mechanical engineer husband did change our timing chain just last summer. This was the awefulest (not sure that is a word, by oh well!) 2 weeks of our entire marriage (and we have had a long and happy marriage!) My husband did not have trouble with the bolt like yours, but he did have terrible trouble with getting it all put back together! After he had half of the engine out and laying on our driveway (remember our garage is full of an airplane!), he decided he just couldn't get it put back together right! I forget the exact problem, he didn't think he had the right tools, had to lift something without a lift, etc. Anyway, he quit in frustration about a week into the project (luckily we have an even older car that still works, but only has two lap belts in it). We decided we would just have it and all the parts towed to our mechanic and pay him the $1000 to $1,500 to put it all back together when our daughter came to the rescue. She said "Dad, you just can't quit, I KNOW you can put it all back together if you just try really hard!" (She had just learned to ride a bicycle by us telling her this over and over, ad nauseum!) He took two days off to rest from the job, decided she was right and put it all back together without the tool he thought he needed and it has been working perfectly since then! He did have to call our mechanic, who helped him through the crisis, sort of like the wonderful women here at SCS! If it wasn't for our daughter, we would be a lot poorer now! So, tell your husband not to give up, he CAN fix that Toyota! Good luck, a lot of people are praying for him and you, too!
Laurie
Laurie, read this end of the post!!! It was only 18 hours for us not two weeks but it was a hard and sweaty job the entire time for poor Adam... we are going out to dinner to celebrate a job well done!
Keri, I know what ya mean about house first. My dh is planning on being up here in AK for about 10 yrs and with our fed. govt jobs, we won't be able to afford to buy most likely. The cheapest houses start at about $200k. So we will continue to save, save, oh and save until he is ready to return to the lower 48. In fact on of the biggest reasons I am trying to get back on w/ the feds is so that 1/2 of my salary can go straight into our housing savings and the other 1/2 I can splurge on stamps and clothes and such for the kids. I can harldy wait until I have new stamps to play with! I am so not inspired right now with the ones I have. lol Of course I think that is just b/c I want so many of the new ones! lol
