My son knitted enough bookworm bookmark thingies for his whole kindergarten class.
( thank you, thank you....oh yes, naturally I'm very proud...)
but here's the thing...
umm,
they look like
(sorry son)
green
superdeluxechenille*tampons*
with googly eyes.
but they ARE **totally** cute in an actual book!
And I *had* planned to give a book with each of them
but I haven't really found a dealio that would not break the bank.
and here it is the end of the year already.
:(
so if your scout troop or brownie brigade has ever done this craft
(they are often that curly swirly knitted design with the long bookmark tail )
or if your seniors center or local community league or knitwits club features these creations,
would you please post the poem y'all use?
I'm usually so "seussical"
but this week I've got a flubug this week and cannot seem to invent a poem to explain what they are.
"I am a bookworm please feed me during the summer" is just not up to my usual standard!
I'm just worried about time
because *Naturellement*
I want us to stamp the poems after they are printed up on the computer.
( bugs and kisses , of course! ds's fave!)
and as I said
I am down to the wire and experiencing total "bookworm block"
tia
I mean it!
Thanks In Advance!

Bookworm
by Brian Kunde I worm into the books, to see
What weighty words will weigh on me:
The more I eat, the more I know,
So fatter I in learning grow,
Consuming all within the boards,
To get the knowledge it accords.
Alas! My thoughtful meal's devoured,
That so my gut and mind empowered!
How lucky humankind must be,
That learns without destroying the
Supply that feeds their eager brains
The fund of knowledge it contains.
They get their information free,
Without a single calorie,
While see what my digestion took:
I've sacrificed this precious book!
Was this what you were looking for? Your idea sounds so very cute! Good luck, I hope this helped you!
My brain really wasn't working this week ...
I never googled ,
or checked my very own vintage kids book collection...
duh! flubug ?affect your mind? wuwt?
uh-oh...
maybe I'll have to see what else surfaces...
and make 20 little mini books!
( way to make work for myself hey?)
the kids are that kind of group though
...really great sweet and kind
and the parental units too!
keep em coming!

Through and through th' inspir'd leaves,
Ye maggots, make your windings;
But O respect his lordship's taste,
And spare his golden bindings.

I am a bookworm made by hand
My purpose has been neatly planned.
Ill help you remember what youve read;
If youll just help me to get fed!
This poem is just a little snack-
A book is what I really lack
Borrow my next meal, or buy it
I need a wholesome steady diet,
When the story comes to an end,
Ill still be a reminder of your friend!
they turned out great!
just big bookmarks with chunky bites taken out here and there.
(scallop punch)
photos ?
....eventually
just let me get thru the last few days....!

they were a bigbig hit!
no photos, too rushed
but I have enough extra kits that I'll make up more soon for his non-school friends
(that we will see more of soon anyway)
that will be photo day
so y'all can see what my fave lil knitwit made
and me.

I am glad to hear that your project went over well! They sounded really cute. I would love to see pictures! My youngest son starts school this fall and I will not forget your idea.
start now!LOL!
make a tONNe!
you will want to give these to everyone you meet!
I printed poems on 3 equal columns on 8.5 x11
and cut 4 4" strips out of 12 x 12 colored cs...
no trimming!
stamped bugs and kisses worm with green galore repeatedly so as to have different tones with all haste
punched ( by mama) with scallop punch and
3/4 circle to fit the body.
punch white layer first then ( get kid to ) glue to green layer to avoid punching "thru glu" when you layer the punched out bites.
here goes:
yay! it worked!
okay ....also see my gallery and i will try to spin them so that they are straight...sorry!

Wow these are so cute! My daughters school does 4 Craft Round Robins a year and these would be great for the kids to make. Can you tell me how you made the little bookworms themselves? Thank you, Deborah
These are SOOO cute. I can't believe that I missed this post a couple weeks ago. I toooooo would like direction help on the little worms themselves. I sure hope you can help!!!!! Thanks
this is made with just the usual spool knitter technique from the olden days but with deluxe fat chenille yarn.
I got a newfangled kind of tool though for my son when he was 4 at micheal's craft store
it is a little tube with the pegs on top but the pegs are on a turntable you guide with your thumb to make the whole thing more fun... also there is a thread guide and a crochet hook that you can attach to the whole operation.
I'll try to upload a pic in the next few days , I kept the packaging and everything
( I'm so weird that way, I save everything in its original box...)
ETA:
WAIT !
I don't have to upload!
here is the link to the actual product:
great for in the car... I just start the ball from inside the center and put the whole ball in a 8x8 zipbag with just enough room for the tail to come out.
and the whole thing goes in the bag when not in use!
I use SU! dimensionals and got the colored google eyes at de Serra craft store at West Edmonton Mall.
good luck and happy knitting!
