Default I have a question about CASE'ing and other ideas

I was wondering how people felt about CASE'ing in general and for swaps and RAK's. I see so many great ideas here, after a while I honestly couldn't tell you if it was original or not! I'm not spiting anyone for CASE'ing. I do it a lot but I was wondering, for instance. I wanted to do a card for Lana's Autumn contest but every idea I had, someone else had already done!

This all came to mind today because someone posted a Boo card done with Sketch it. I love this card and I've made one like it for that Set Sampler but if I thought it would not have just been copying, I would have made it for Lana's contest. Now, would that have been out of bounds because it's actually a contest? If yes, how do you keep coming up with new ideas?

I know I'm whining a little, please forgive me, my 3 year old has a cold and we've been up since 5 this morning so I'm not thinking real clearly. I just wanted to open this up for comments/debate. But do be kind to me.

I've had a bad day and I'm in a slump/funk too...

Thanks for listening,
Mo

First of all I'm sorry to hear you having a bad day. I never wish that upon anybody. I think CASEing is ok for everyday stuff but I guess if you are entering a contest it should be something you came up with yourself. I know I wouldn't feel right entering something I took from someone else. That is my option.

LadyScrppr - a RAK is a random act of kindness. Basically, sending someone a card 'just because'.

Shannon - Unfortunately, in my heart of hearts, I feel the same way. I just get frustrated because I look at all of my idea cards and they've been CASE'ed from someone else. As much as I love this site, it saps my creativity. Thx for the kind words!

I've been wanting to send a few RAK's but most of the cards I've made lately are cased from here. I'm guessing that is OK to do?

There is no way one can identify every aspect of every specification of a card. It would be ridiculous.

If you see something you like case it and change it slightly. In the legal world, this is called 'confusingly similar'.

I agree with Starlitstudio. To CASE a card to to copy it exactly. There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking an idea you see on a card and modifying it to make it your own. JulieHRR wrote just the other day that she doesn't always come up with completely unique ideas. She just makes sure that she takes and idea and tweeks it to make it her own. And who all know how brillian JHRR is! Think about it - chefs do this all the time. Most recipes are basically the same things. It's what you do with the ingredients that make the dish your own.

HTH-
