Some of you may remember my post last week about losing 20 of my finished Christmas cards. :( Well, I still have not found them. Live and learn I guess.
Well, now I'd like some ideas on what you store your cards in? Is it a special box? Just tossed in a bag? Plastic tote?
I need some ideas!!!
I make Christmas cards all year long so I really need a place to store them once I'm done, so they're all in one place when it comes time to mail them out.

I use photo boxes with dividers denoting occasions. I usually have a couple just for completed Christmas cards. I store them on a shelf in my craft room.
I use clear plastic sleeves for my cards to protect them from dust, having the corners bend, etc. Then I store them in photo boxes until I need to use them.
I have a large plastic box labeled Made Cards. I have not been subject dividing but I think I will be in the future. There's no missing it. It's under my desk.
Plastic tote, A2 cards fit perfectly, has a sturdy lid so no damage to cards during storage. My envelopes go into a tote also, keeps damage and loss down.

3 plastic boxes about the size of a shoe-box. Not categorised beyond "keepers" (for the special people on my list and me, LOL), cards to send, and ones with Scripture on them which I would only send to people I know they would mean something too.Christmas cards go in a real shoe box on the shelf.
I did, one year, lose the very special one I had made for DH. Ever since then, special cards made in advance just go into the keeper box.
They're all in clear envelopes for protection, too.
I also have a small plastic box/crate for storage. I have a "card list" which is a printed list of names and addresses of people I frequently send cards to. I keep the list in front and store the cards standing up behind the list.
I usually make at least 4 alike when I make cards, so I jot a brief description of the card next to the person's name when I send a card, so I won't duplicate.

I use a couple of small Rubbermaid containers I bought years ago to store most of my completed cards in. I also store some in envelope boxes. Most of my samples are in shoe boxes.
I like them because they have dividers, so I can divide my cards by theme or occasion.
I also pair my cards with an envelope and put them in a celo bag. Bulky cards meant for hand-delivery are put in glassine bags with a removable sticker that describes the card.
I buy the photo boxes when on sale at Michaels. Usually can get them for 5 for $10.00. I use a box for birthday, thank you Chrsitmas, etc. I use an empty envelope box to keep them upright until the box is full. Store them on a shelf in craft room closet.

Right now, I have 11 cards: 10 Christmas and 1 birthday. I sell them faster than I can make them, so I don't need to worry about a storage container.
I hope this will change because I'm taking early retirement September 15th. I hope to make and sell a lot more; I also hope to have some available for ME to send.

I'm more of a make them when I need person but I was lucky enough to get a galvanized metal mini chest for dirt cheap years ago that I put any completed cards in. It's the perfect size and I love the industrial look it has. I could close the lid but usually don't, I leave it open with: address labels, a pen and a zip bags of stamps in the flipped back lid for those I need a card quick moments.
Some day I'll even get around to decorating the cardboard pieces I use to divide them by category ... right someday .... only been using this system 15+ years now.
They're a great deal, and Amber's wonderful. She ships super, duper fast too.
Just ordered, thanks!
I try to make a duplicate to keep when trying something new, and thought the sleeves would be good for that, since I could slip in notes/a typed description too.
I found some .94 plastic containers at Target perfect size for A2 cards. They are made by Sterilite and basically shoe box size. I label each box. Last count of my inventory was 1,466 cards. I sell mostly at holidays to a few people.
It's a file box for the huge index cards, so it fits most cards I make. I also have a pretty storage box I bought someplace, like Tuesday Morning, because I liked the box. In the file box, I do sort by category. In the other box, I just toss 'em in.
I put the card in a clear envelope for storage, if I decide to use a plain envelope to mail or give the card, then I just reuse the clear envie to store another card.
well, I make a lot of cards. (so, I donate and sell some)
so those cards are in vintage suitcases upstairs where I stamp, there are rows of what they are so the row with birthday also has funny friendship type cards, another row has "congratulations" (so babies, weddings, anniversaries retirements those are all in the same row) type of a thing. I do have one suit case that is totally just Christmas and winter. tiny little cards like 3" size are in these almost like printers drawers but with openings to hold small cards and tags upright, boxed cards are in vintage freezer metal baskets with handles because, the cards fit into them really well and its easy to transport them to set them up into spinner racks later.
things I made for me to send to specific people ( if it has a time line like an upcoming birthday) if its far out it goes into one of those pretty hat boxes in a spare room I color in downstairs. this box has dividers in it that are months. So, if I made it like the day before I need to mail it, it never makes it into the box. ( which is most of the time so, I hardly ever look in that box) and then there is a separate box for just Christmas downstairs in that same room.
I store them in CD sized boxes made by "Really Useful Boxes". They are sold at office supply stores. They are a great side and have lids that attach firmly to the box. I have six of them, and use dividers to help sort birthday from thank you, etc, if multiple types of cards are in one box. I love them.
Somewhere (maybe ScS) I saw this used to store cards and immediately purchased one. It works great! Make little dividers to separate by genre, and you can store a lot of cards for easy access. Ha! I beat you!!! I retired today!
I am accumulating some cards, since I've started doing the Alphabet Challenge. It'll be nice to have cards ahead. I've never tried selling any, though. Most of what I had before were from a monthly group. I miss having that.

Claudia you and I think alike.................great minds, right? !!!!!! ;););););)
This works super well for me, especially since I usually make A2 or A6 cards.

Forgot to add, my storage system.
I have 7 long plastic boxes by Sterlite that I use for the cards I keep by occasion and shoe boxes for precut and folded bases of ivory and white, cards for inserts and cards to be mailed or donated.
I don't sell my cards, they are for my enjoyment only.
Everything is labeled and stockade in the closet in the craft room.

I put completed cards in plastic sleeves or clear envelopes (with an envelope) and store them in the clear plastic fridge bins (a.k.a Jennifer McGuire's clear stamp stamp storage). All the cards are separated by category and I've got dividers in between groups.
I occasionally sell my cards to neighbors, co workers, etc. so this makes it much easier to have all my cards in one place and can be easily pulled out and/or transported.
I started with those shoe size boxes that you can find at Michaels, JoAnn or now even Hobby Lobby. The one with the metal insert at the end where you can identify what's in the box. After a couple of years I bought the biggest ones they have in that same line except shaped almost like a suit case. I just stack them in on end and get in as many as I can with out crushing them. I have one each for Holidays: Valentines, Christmas, Halloween, Easter then for Birthdays, Baby, and a Misc. Works for me!

I have 10 photo boxes for cards and I have each box labelled on the outside. The reason I have so many boxes is because if I go to a class I keep the card and use it for reference at a later date and some of my boxes are for the cards for coming occasions.
I use the 3L sized Really Useful Boxes from Office Depot - although I believe other office supply stores carry them. A2 cards store really well in them, and since I carry a full line of cards in my business, I have 8+ full boxes - birthday, Anniversary, wedding, baby, get well, sympathy, retirement, general (blank inside) and a few others plus holiday cards. I also use the really long ones to hold overstock. I use them as well for boxed sets, which is how I sell thank you cards, and a few other kinds. These are really sturdy, they have a raised lid which means I can carry a bit of overstock in them that way, and they take a lot of abuse! They are waterproof, so if I am displaying outside at a market, I don't worry about the occasional rainstorm getting inside, and dropping them doesn't damage anything. I've used them for 8-9 years now. I use the plastic sleeves for all my cards, again for protection from the elements. Really like these boxes!

I keep mine in an under-the-sink metal mesh drawer: .ORG Medium Under the Sink Mesh Slide-Out Cabinet Drawer - BedBathandBeyond.com. It comes with 2 dividers to make 3 sections. I made labeled dividers (like index card dividers) from cardstock with my 1-2-3 Punch Board, then laminated, just to put between card categories (Christmas, donation cards, etc.). Then I just file my cards behind the appropriate divider. The drawer sits in a frame, but I can pull it out completely if I need/want to. You can also get them in a 2-tiered model. I use one of those for keeping my paper scraps corralled. I would use one for cards, but don't have the room! HTH!
