Help! Craft Shows and Sales Tax
I'm getting ready to do some craft shows. [don't worry, I know all about the SU rules governing these].

For those of you who have done these, what do you do about sales tax? Do you specifically charge the exact sales tax, or do you just adjust your prices to account for it? Do you give every customer a receipt? Do you just have your tax preparer handle paying this at the end of the year?

All help is greatly appreciated!

You may want to check with the craft show organizers. In Missouri, we are required to charge sales tax. I do make a sales receipt and I was given a tax chart by one show which I use most of the time. I live near St. Louis, so each city has its own tax rate, and it may vary from craft show to craft show. They always announce the rate before the show opens. In Illinois, where I do shows with my sister, craft shows are exempt from sales tax.

In Michigan if you only do one or two craft shows a year, you don't get a tax ID #, you submit a form to the state with the amount of your sales within a few days of the craft show - this is what is used for tax purposes.
