Totally amazed. Don't know what they are thinking with this one. It's a really great BG and it will be sad that many new stampers will not find it. I bet it goes for big bucks on e-bay.

I love this stamp and even though I won't be able to demo it at my workshops, I'll still keep it for my personal use. On the bright side, with so many stamp sets on the retired list, the new catalog should be awesome!
I agree! My first thought is with the Cuttlebug script embossing folder out there, maybe they think it is becoming obsolete? But, in reading the other comments, I think they will probably redesign it somewhat. I love it either way! I am glad to have it in my hot little hands.
My theory is that we'll see another version either in this catalog or the next.
I'm thinking the same thing! So now, I'm debating whether I should go ahead & get it now before it retires or wait for the "new" one! Maybe when the preview catalog comes up for the demos on June 1st, I can sneak a look before deciding!
Remember the "keep the Paisley BG" campaign going last year when it was on the retiring list? And then the new catty had the great new version of a paisley BG--I think we'll have the same thing with French Script. Maybe they'll have an Italian Script or some other language.

I was shocked too! But, maybe they will come out with one similar, but in English, so everyone can understand what it says! Sad to see it go though
:0(
I'm really going to miss this background stamp-it's the one I have used the most. On the other hand, I have high hopes that SU is replacing it with something as equally versatile that will quickly become my new favorite background stamp!
As a TAC demo, I have to admit that even I said, "Are you kidding???" I've been wishing TAC had something similar to French Script (our only similar one is in English so it's "readable"), then they went and put ALL of our background stamps on the list?!?!?!? Makes you go hmmmmmmm.....

I remember when the background "Old World" retired. I was on the fence about ordering it, someone told me . . . oh, don't worry, SU will come up with a great replacement. They didn't. I waited another year and a map-like one came out, but it wasn't vintagey. I ended up finally getting it on e-bay and after shipping and handling . . . well . . . let's just say I should have gotten it from SU before it was discontinued!
French Script is probably my most used BG, too. Since its already in my grubby little paws, I don't really care if it goes now! (Because, of course, its all about ME!) I have all the BG's that I want from the current catalog, so I'm eager to see some new ones.

i didnt buy the french script because i didnt know what it was saying...it makes very pretty cards though. so i purchased a script background from hobby lobby with "america the beautiful" on it. surely there will be a similar version released.
sheila
Shelwoofer--That's funny that you and I are opposites. TAC has "Beauty of a Woman" and I have NOT purchased it because I *can* read it! LOL I would rather use something I cannot read to make those pretty cards. To each her own. ;-)

I want them to make the next one HORIZONTAL (landscape) -- so I can use it on my horizontal cards. I get tired of just having to use it vertically (portrait) -- or trying to match it up to use it horizontally (even w/a SAMJ).
I wish they would put out 2 versions of each (well maybe not EACH) background -- long and short. Wishful thinking, I know. But at least the ones that have script or a pattern that could only go one way.

Anybody else?
That's a great idea! You should submit that idea to Stampin Up! by sending an email to [email protected].
I have a card in my gallery where I managed to line up French Script pretty well on a horizontal card, but later realized the second half was stamped upside down! Of course, I didn't catch it until after it was already uploaded and had comments.
Definately a fave of mine, so I'm hoping that we'll see a new and just as nice if not better version because really I thought someone must have been crazy to think that should be dicontinued.
I actually only used mine less than 5 times and just traded it away. Even thought it's totally cool and has many uses, it's just not the background stamp for me. To each his/her own :-)

I have just two words to say ... Terrific Tulips ;-)
I didn't buy this set when it retired last year because I thought there must be a new set, even better, to replace it. bummer, that didn't happen.
OOOOOh, and English Script Stamp. I missed it. What did it say?
I've admired the font style on french script but haven't purchased it because I don't know what it says. Too practical and not thinking outside the box, I guess . . .

The English one is just called Script, and it is the Irish blessing that says "may the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back", etc. If you ever see it for a reasonable price, grab it! It's pretty hard to get hold of.
Wow that Script BG does sound intriguing. I WILL keep my eyes open! TFS the info, Chris.

Now "THAT ONE" I use all the time....the french script isn't even put together yet!
I actually liked that the retiring French Script stamp was in a different language -- made it easier to just use it as a pattern rather than paying attention to what it was saying! I have both this stamp and the Script BG that retired years ago, and I prefer French Script for most projects simply because I can't easily read what it says!
