Default Flowers on cards

I love using flowers, such as Wild Orchid Crafts, or Prima on my cards, but have issues getting them to stick really well. What does everyone use for adhesive for these flowers?

I use glue dots. Have also used double sided tape or glue stick and then run card stock through embossing folder.

I use glue dots also. Sometimes, if it suits the design, I use a brad in the center of the flower, which provides the center and also attaches it to the cardstock.

Aleene's tacky glue, especially if I've had to cut off a wire stem. It's thick and doesn't seep through the mulberry paper of the flower like other liquids. I personally find with glue dots that it's like trying to attach felt-- you only get one shot to make it stick and if it doesn't, the dot is ruined by the excess of fibers.

Glue dots, as has already been suggested, or clear silicone glue. Or you can use Glossy Accents.

Lately my Glue Dots have not been sticky so well. They start off fine, then after a day or two stuff has fallen off. I thought I got a bad batch and when and bought Zots and still have the same problem. Anyone else having a problem? BTW...I live in Texas.

Other than that I usually use a Hot Glue Gun.

I have always used glue dots for the most part and I find often the placement will change with glue dots..not sticking as closely to the area as I would like. I use more dots... This last card I made with fabric flowers it is scary how many dots I used. I like glossy accents but I DON"T like the shiny area that I get sometimes around the flower from the glue seeping out onto the paper! A lot of people use Zip Dry and like the results.

I wish someone would develope something just for adhereing flowers! :-)

Glue dots work well for me, or I use a brad for the flower center and poke that through a layer.

HOT glue gun! I will even dab it on dimensional's if I want 'the lift'! Holds them to the end of time! : ) Just a dab will do!

And..oops..if I use a brad for decoration and I have already glued the flower together and placed it on the card--dab of hot glue after I chop off the brad wings...right onto of the flower...it holds beautifully--just a dab of hot glue!

Aleenes tacky. I find it the best because it dries fast and you only need a smidge. I sometimes use dots but they seem to jump right on to my fingers instead of the paper.. sigh*.... I waste more glue that way! LOL

I combine adhesives...

I use a couple of glue dots for immediate stickiness...but also a small dab of Tombo mono multi glue. When I just tried the Tombo, I often found the flower would move, or slide a bit while the glue was wet. When that stuff dries, I know my flower (or other embellishment) won't budge at all.

I use Beacon fabric adhesive for lots of flowers and other heavy embellishment. Hot glue is also excellent.

I always used glue dots or even good dble. sided tape but just recently I saw where Arleen from Butterfly Kisses uses her glue gun for just about everything. I dusted off my old glue gun and put it to work and it's doing a great job. Faster and more reliable.

Glue dots for me or sometimes Tombo Multi. I don't seem to manage well with a hot glue gun, unless strings of the stuff all over, dried lumps that I didn't get to soon enough and burned fingers is what is expected!

I'm surprised too! One little bump and they come off! I find that the glue dot sticks to one layer only of the flower and I am left with a fuzzy glue dot and no flower. I like a thick glue too or glossy accents. My current favourite tho is Scrap Happy sheer glue. The glue is thin enough that I am not left waiting for it to flow to the tip and I never have to clean out the tip as amazingly it doesn't clog but it also applies very finely. A great product for multiple uses.

Glue dots in the dispenser aren't as sticky as the ones in the box. Maybe that's the issue?

No it isn't. I threw away *shock horror* some glue dots a couple of months ago. They were in a box and I had kept a bit of the wax strip wrapped around them. They were actually falling off the wax strip. Not going to buy them again, ever.

I would go with a wet glue. Not flowers but for Christmas rhinestones I used E6000 - smelly to use (need well ventilated area) and probably overkill but I could swing that card around by the rhinestone after it set up. I also use Martha Stewart Glitter Glue - and that stuff really sticks too. Don't know if it any different than other wet glues. It was part of a pack of glitter I bought.

Also there is a Tim Holtz glue that dries matt - I think I am going to add it to my adhesive collection. Nothing can spoil a CAS card quicker than trying to put a small decoration on and it moves and then you have a shiney spot.

HTH

I mostly use pretty dimensional flowers. and my experience is that the flowers adhered with glue dots come off in a short time but flowers glued with Alene's tacky glue, glossy accents, or hot glue are on to stay. HTH.

I use Crafter's Pick Incredibly Tacky Glue. BEST glue I have ever used!! I tried using glue dots but my embellies would slip down the card or over time, fall off - tried a few different brands but couldn't find one that worked for me. Bev Rochester from her blog All the Things I Love recommended the Crafter's Pick Incredibly Tacky Glue it to me as this is what she uses to attach her Wild Orchid flowers etc. to her cards.

On occasion, I have used Super Glue when I have misplaced my Crafter's Pick glue but you have to be careful about accidentally sticking your fingers together or sticking your finger to your craft desk (don't ask me how I know LOL!) - but it does work well and has a very strong hold.

Hope this helps :-)

I use glue dots also, but I buy the glue dots brand, I don't have luck with the cheaper generic ones sold in major chain craft stores, or the what's it called Zots?

look for the ones that really say glue dots on the box.

Glue dots or dimensional adhesive for me. One thing about glue dots, if you want it to be permanent, heat with your heat gun for a few seconds before applying (use tweezers to hold the flower), they will not come off after this. I do this all the time and have had good results.
Some glue dots will actually come off when they get cold, especially in winter when going through the mail system and sitting in cold mailboxes.

Hope it works for you There seems to be a lot of different ideas from people so I am sure you will find something that works for you. Different things work for different people and I have a large variety of different glues which I have tried over the past couple of years - some weren't as good as I had hoped and others are fantastic. Good luck

The oils from your fingers will make glue dots not sticky. My demo taught us to use the point of your scissors to pick up the glue dot and place it where you need it. Definetly helps!!
