Hi all. I got the Canvas background and was so happy as it's my 1st background stamp, BUT... I can't get it to ink evenly and when I stamp it, it's soooooooo uneven!! It looks kind of neat but I'd also like to know how to do it so it looks even and uniform. THANKS

Did you turn the stamp over and ink it by holding the pad and pressing the pad evenly all over the stamp? (I know some that rub their pads on the stamp, but I wouldn't recommend this.)
I find if I ink it up with the brayer and then when I turn it over to stamp I stand up and place both hands flat down on it and press with all my might. I hope that helps.

Try putting a mousepad under the piece of paper you are stamping on. And when you stamp, stand up and really press, press, press down on all parts of the stamp.
The way I was taught is to place the inked up background stamp face up on a table. (look at it carefully to see if it is inked all over) Place your cardstock on top of the background stamp. Place another sheet of paper over the cardstock (like a piece of computer paper) then rub the paper with the edge of a CLOSED ink pad. This will really make sure you have it all covered evenly.

Inking with a brayer and then placing paper on top of stamp, add a blank sheet on top, and then roll with clean brayer is one approach.
Although it is very hard on your stamp pad to gently swirl when inking the image, I do it occasionally rather than ink up a brayer. It's not recommended because the tough rubber cuts the fiber on the pad and you wind up with ravels and a weakened stamp pad.
Thanks to all of you for the suggestions! I've been having the same problem and had quit using the stamp because of it! I was going to have my upline show me how to use the stamp tonight but now maybe I don't have to!
Butt Stampin??? You know with the cordination that I have, I would end up with an imprint of the background stamp on MY background!. The paper would be on the floor and the impression would be on my pants!. Hey maybe we have hit on a new fashin faux paux?? Instead of back pockets we can have back imprints! As the NY lottery says... Hey you never know!"
I do it the same way as J's Nana....in order to properly ink the stamp, I tamp the pad a few times on the face-up stamp and then I swipe the pad in one swoop from one end of the stamp to the other. This has worked FLAWLESSLY on the canvas BG.....I am in the process of making 100 cards for my MIL and am using the canvas stamp on over 50 of them. I have tried lots of different ways of loading the ink on the stamp and this one is very consistent.
One other thought on why you may not be getting a good image. Is the pad you are using "cupped"? I have noticed several of my new style classic pads have slightly raised edges and pad dips to the center. If you are trying to get a nice ink coverage on a large BG stamp with a pad that looks like this you will be disappointed because you will not be able to get contact with every bitty bit on the stamp.
