Smile Advent Calendar Ideas

I love, love, love Pinefeather's Advent Calendar. But I'm having a bit of difficulty coming up with daily ideas. I thought we could share ideas here in case anyone else is making something similar.

I did find this site: http://www.homeschooled-kids.com/advent.html

It had some good ideas.

I'm definitely going to have lighting the advent candles on Sundays.

Make cards (for the kids) .... sing carols ... watch a Christmas movie ... bake cookies ... visit family/friends .... make ornaments.

Anyone with ideas?

My kids brought one home from school. It's a Catholic school. Here's some different ideas. Doubt if the dates matter in some cases...
Nov 29 - Tonight at dinner, light a candle and sit in 10 minutes of silence tp practice patience
Dec 2 - talk about hope & share one thing each of you hopes for
Dec 12 - make tacos in honor of the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Dec 16 - make or order pizza & watch a Christmas movie together
Dec 17 - clean out closets of unwanted toys & clothes. Donate those in good condition to a shelter or other charity
Dec 26 - In honor of St Stephen, light a candle for all the men & women in armed service

Just a few that I thought would be interesting.

Cindy, was that in calendar form? If so, my kids brought the same thing home, they too attend a Catholic school. Lots of good ideas!

Thanks Cindy! Some good ideas. I especially like lighting a candle for those in the military. We put a blue candle in our window each year for the police (blue lights for safe nights) and also a red one for our fire department. I think I have a triple candle holder that I will add a yellow one too!

Here's a couple more I thought of ... make a gingerbread house ... craft night ...

How about these:

*go shopping for baby items for Baby Jesus (give to a woman's shelter)
*St. Lucia Day--Dec 13
*St. Nicholas Day--Dec. 5
*Buy a gift for Toys for Tots, Hannah's Closet--whatever is in your area
*Read or watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas
*Read or watch The Polar Express and string sleigh bell necklaces for family and friends.
*Make a list of all the gifts God has given you---good at math, can make people laugh, pretty hair, good soccer player, family and friends, etc.
*make some new ornaments for your tree---do a search for Christmas crafts and you'll find a ton of ideas
*How many words can you come up with from MERRY CHRISTMAS
*Find out how Christmas is celebrated in other countries
*Make snowman soup
*Pick out your Christmas outfit

FYI Saint Nicholas Day is December 6th.

What fun it would be to do a traditional, cultural activity for St. Lucia & St. Nicholas Days!

Yes, that's right. (My little cousins in Germany celebrate St. Nicholas day, so that's how I know. Here are some interesting websites with info on how some countries in Europe celebrate it (it's huge in the Netherlands).
