Default Postcard from Iraq

I just want to let everyone know that I received a postcard from a soldier in Iraq today. I was so excited, I ran all the way from the mailbox! He wrote to let me know that they had received our cards and how much he appreciated them and all the work that we have put into them.

His unit is home based in Charleston, SC but right now he's about 60 miles south of Baghdad. He is in a ground crew for the C-17 cargo planes. He's been there 3 months but hopes to come home soon. And he asks that we continue to pray for their safety.

Isn't that cool!!! I had put my return address on the cards that I sent that I wrote in to encourage the troops. I thought it would be neat that they would know where we were from incase there was someone from Michigan that would like some news from close to home.

I feel so pumped up, I'm ready to stamp more cards!!! Keri, you should be getting them soon.

Susan,

Thanks for sharing that great news! I just have to get to my room and stamp some of those cards to send! I can't wait for school to start so I can get some time to do those cards! If I had been you I would be excited about hearing from a soldier too!!

Yay!! How exciting!

That is a great idea Susan. I am going to be mailing my cards to Keri on Wednesday, so I will have to write my return address on there!

I'm with you Iris - every time I read about the troops and cards, I get all teary. Makes it kinda tough to get the cards finished.

Daven - I scanned the front and back and it's almost 1 mb at high resolution. I don't know how to upload it to the forums. I only know how to upload to the cards gallery. Do you want me to send it to the cards gallery?

Keri ~ It was from SRA Robert Bund, USAF. That would be soooo awesome if you knew him! You could let his family/friends know that he is doing well. I'll upload the card as soon as Daven tells me how to do it. If I have to I'll put it in the card gallery.

Oh, I hope I don't totally kill the mood, but your post really touched me. I belong to an MS support group board, and one of the ladies posted this morning that her son was one of the GIs killed in Iraq this weekend. Ah, my heart really ached for her.

Hearing from you about your postcard brings it home that the cards DO mean something to these guys and gals. They are such a small effort for us to make such a huge impact. I have almost filled another box for Keri, and encourage everyone to participate. I ask for card donations at stamp stores, my stamp club and my upline's monthly workshop. They're even starting to bring them to me already put in zip lock bags!!

Anyway, long post....I guess I'm kinda thrown still about this lady's son.

Hugs,
Betsy

Ok so it is not too readable but you can save it to your computer and then zoom in on it if you want to be able to read it! Sorry Susan it is the best I can do due to the size limits on the forums!

Wow - that is great. Makes your perspective change when you hear from them. I know my friend just got back and showed us pictures of soldiers hanging out and daily life. Sometimes we forget that they are sacrificing their time and life for us.
I am going to look up the info for getting involved in the stamping for the troops. I just saw another thread about the details. Thanks to all involved.

Susan, Thanks so much for posting this!! And Keri, thanks for letting us "see" what he had to say. It warms my heart to know that our efforts are appreciated. Sometimes we get so busy with our daily lives that we sometimes forget that there are so many Americans fighting to keep us safe. This is a pleasant reminder to keep praying for them, and to keep those cards coming.
May God Bless them all!!

I wish I knew how to help you...perhaps you can contact a base that you could send the cards to?

Default Card for the Troops

Good evening y'all. Keri, I've been working feverishly on my cards for the troops. I have 22 ready to go, but I also want to include some for them that they can send home for their loved ones. I've got a few more to finish and then will get in the mail to you. Hopefully they will go out early next week.

I'm confused ... I thought the purpose of this mission was to make blank cards for the troops to be able to send home to loved ones. Are people making cards for the troops themselves, expressing appreciation for all they are doing, or are they blank to send back home?

That is too awesome! I plan on making cards at my next stamp camp and will send them to Keri.

My heart goes out to the woman who lost her son this past week-end.
