Petal Point Chalk Pads - to buy or not to buy?
I have seen how pretty the creations are where these have been used. But mostly on solid flowers like Petal Prints, More Petal Prints, etc. The only set I have like that is the Paint Prints.
My question is: is it necessary to purchase the refills at the same time as the pads??
What colors would be best to get? I am a Rich Regals then Bold Brights girl and they are not together! I'm thinking to go outside my box and comfort zone & try the Subtles since Spring is right around the corner
Can anyone sell me on them?

Get them! They are soooooo cool! I've had mine for a couple of years (they are full pads & cat eyes, not the petal points, but I still love them). I don't have any refills.....yet. They are all still juicy.

I also have a question regarding these. Can someone tell me exactly which colors are in the SU ones? Thanks!

I love mine! Love them, Love them, LOVE them!!! I am sure you have noticed that by now.
Soon there will be an awesome event going on here on SCS (I can't tell you! My lips are sealed. But it has something to do with my work here on SCS). After that you will have plenty of other reasons to by the Chalk ink.
I made 50 Petal Print cards for swaps with the Chalk ink and did have to reink the petals that I used. The petals are very small and just like Craft ink...you will need them juicy to have a good result.
It's still sooo worth it. I did use them on some fine line stamps as well. You can stamp with them on tiles, dominos, acetate....heck, those inks are indespensable in my house.
Hugs and smile.

refills
I didn't see an answer to your first question on if you needed to purchase the refills at the same time .........I purchased the earth elements/rich regals set this fall and have done a considerable amount of stamping with them. I haven't noticed that any of them have started to dry up yet so I'm hoping this means a little goes a long way. When I was making up my last order I thought maybe I'd add the refills on my order and couldn't believe how expensive they were!! Too bad they didn't give the option to just purchase one color at a time for the refills since usually only one or two colors are going dry at a time.
Sorry...I guess I'm babbling. To answer your question, I don't think it's necessary to purchase the refills at the same time you purchase the pads....they last quit a while. Also, I think the subtles would be an excellent choice for spring cards!

well...
I ordered the chalk pads a couple months ago and I love them! I'm not happy with craft pads at all since they take forever to dry. I am also not happy with the way classic inks look on non-US paper (like confetti white), BUT with the chalk ink, it provides even coverage! I love these things!
As for the refills... I bought them at the same time, but have not used them yet. They ARE small and I would think if you use one color a bunch, you'd need to re-ink. I like to have refills for all my pads so that if I need it, I have it and don't have to wait.

After advice from this group on the same question I did buy the soft subtles and I also love them....I am now going to have to buy the other set now-- after that hint Beate
I love the effect - the ink is just a beautiful colour and gives great coverage!! I would definately recommend them----I am not sure about the "soft subtle" match, they have much more viberant colours---not really a match I think though....don't have refills but I haven't used them all that much

Get them both!!!! I have both and love them!!!!!!!! I would recommend getting the re-inkers (I still need to) because once you use them, you'll fall in love with the chalk pads so much, you'll use all the ink up.

My very first inks when I started stamping were the Colorbox Chalk inks! I bought all the cats eyes and I love them!! I'm SO glad that SU started carrying them. I bought the SU Petal Point assortments so I can demo them. About the reinkers, I guess that's always a good idea, but I've used my cats eyes a *lot* and they're smaller than the SU Petal Point pads, and I haven't even come close to one getting dry yet.
Definitely get them!

thanks for everyone's input - I think I'll get them both & wait on the refills for a few months. There are still some classic inks I need to get refills for first

you're absolutely right Beate - but I need to save some $ for leadership which is only 10 days away for me
I'm very excited! I'll start a new discussion to see if any other SCSers are going!

great! I posted the question about who is going in the Demo Chit Chat section. Maybe we can all get together?? Congrats on Manager! I hope to promote by the end of SAB (very lofty goal) but not unattainable.
Of course I will swap with you - I haven't received very many of the Garden Collage swaps yet. It's more my style than a lot of the others, although it was not one of my 4 pre-ordered sets.
