It could be several things...these are in increasing levels of complexity.
Your computer may still not recognize that pdf files should be opened with Acrobat Reader. Did you restart your computer after you installed Acrobat Reader? If not try that.
Also open and close Acrobat Reader and then try to open the pdf file.
You may also have a different program associated with PDF files. Navigate to a pdf file you have saved on your hard drive using Windows Explorer. Right click the file and select "properties". In the properties dialog box it should say "Opens with Acrobat Reader 6.x". If it does NOT say this click the "Change" button and select "Acrobat Reader 6.x" from the list of programs displayed.
If that doesn't work do you have an older version of Reader installed? If yes, uninstall both. Restart your computer. Reinstall the newest version of reader and restart your computer. Open and close Reader and then try to open the file.
If none of those things work then I am at a loss.
HTH,

Then this is probably the best option to fix your problem. It sounds like IE is associated with the PDF files and not Acrobat Reader.

My computer has been locking up this weekend when I open pdf files. I've never had a problem before. Maybe there something weird with it?

If you can't read anything in word or excel, try downloading Open Office
at www.openoffice.org It is free and you can open anything that is in word or works or excel. It works much the same as word. I just right click on the item that I want to open and save it to my desktop and then from the desktop just double click and open. Somethimes, though, I have to open Open Office and open it from there. It doesn't do anything with a PDF though.

If the PDF file doesn't open with the version of Reader that you installed, try downloading an older version, I have 5.0 and it works fine. I had trouble with 6.0 after some files got deleted (thanks to my kids!!!) so I downloaded the older version and it works fine.

Instead of clicking the link to the file "right" click and select "save target as" and you should be able to download the file and save it to you hard drive.
