Paper Trey Ink - Change in free shipping
Paper Trey Ink has increased the threshold for free shipping from $50 to $70. This is not surprising given the increase in postal costs.
Oh well, for me it just means I will order less frequently.

I was considering changing from SU to Papertrey paper and ribbons, well now I won't do that if I have to order $70. That is more than I spend in one order. $50 is my limit. Yes the postage rates went up , but these on line only stores have no over head like a brick & mortar store. Plus Papertrey never has sales or coupons. I guess I will change to Gina K 's paper

Whoa! I missed that. Last I ordered it was $60 but that increase wasn't that long ago from $50. Too bad. . . $70 is TOO HIGH.

I have never ordered from them, they have the most exhorbitant shipping rates to Canada! I can't understand why.....other companies like Gina K, Stampin' Up! manage to ship to us just fine.
I like the looks of some of their stuff, but I'm not paying over $40 for shipping!

Actually, the change was from $60 total free shipping to $70 total free shipping. Still, it's free shipping that a LOT of other companies never offer, no matter how much you spend.

Does anyone know if there will be an increase in the shipping cost to Canada? I love there paper and I think that it is worth the extra cost for shipping, but if it goes up to much more to ship to Canada, I might have to reconsider ordering from PTI.

There are a lot of questions being answered or at least addressed in the PTI forum. The link is at the top of the store page, so those with more questions may want to join in over there !
I just checked the thread about shipping costs and there isn't information available for international rates right now. The person answering questions in the forum has promised to let folks know as soon as she does.
Apparently they are initiating a new website any day now, too.

I was thinking about this today and it occurred to me that if I were just starting out buying at PTI, the change would not bother me. There was a time that I made most of my purchases at PTI, and $70 would be a breeze.
Thinking back on all of the stamp sets I've purchased there, if I were new to their company, and especially if I were buying the cardstock, too ~ well, it's a whole different story.

There are a number of companies that have a $70 minimum (or around that amount) to qualify for free shipping. I used to bump my orders up to make the free shipping but them I tried a few companies and ordered fewer items to see how much shipping would be and I found that sometimes the shipping was only $5 or $6 so it was worth it for me to pay shipping instead of ordering another $30 worth of stuff just to save the $6.

I think I could live with the new shipping rates if when you ordered an item and it is out of stock, it would be sent later with free shipping as part of the original order. Hope this makes sense.

Wouldn't that be nice? A Muse just added that and I'm so happy about it!
And NancyK, that's a good point. I have certainly added items in the past to qualify at PTI and other stores, and although I didn't always find that too painful, LOL!, maybe just paying the freight would be a better choice sometimes .

I haven't ordered in 3 years because they keep raising the shipping threshold. I still have enough cardstock leftover from a large initial order. I guess I will switch to another brand!! $70 is just outrageous for free shipping.

I don't know, I don't think that's too bad. I visit one site that is $100 for free shipping and the rates are unbelievable high without the free shipping. I just wait until I need enough stuff that I meet the threshhold. Maybe that's why I'm drowning in supplies!!!

A company that raises free shipping thresholds when the U.S.P.S. raises their shipping prices.
I can't even begin to fathom why they'd do such a thing.

Ted, where's the like button?
Shipping costs are outrageous...as a blogger who just shipped a bunch of stuff, all I can say is OUCH!!! I don't fault companies for responding appropriately.
The reality is that a lot of us have limited budgets and it's upsetting to think about spending more to get free shipping. We want our crack, uhm, supplies, and when we have to pay more for shipping, we can't buy as much cr--supplies. And that just stinks.
Nobody's winning here.

free shipping
I don't buy from anyone online unless I get free or cheap shipping. I am always able to find what I want from someone else. Ebay is really good for this.
For me, the free shipping brings me to the business.
If they have to, they should charge an extra dime or quarter for each item to make up for shipping costs.
Just my opinion, of course!

It hasn't been $50 at PTI for a long, long time.
I wanted to be mad about the increase to $70, but I usually order with a friend who's good for at least half of the minimum (and usually more).
I also remembered that one company I used to order from did away with free shipping entirely, even for their stamps, and now the CHEAPEST shipping I can get from that site is $7.00, which is just ridiculous because they USED TO have additional, cheaper options. Not sure where they went to.

I will still buy from PTI, but will probably just go ahead and pay the $7 shipping. Of course it is easy SOMETIMES to make the $70 order, but like someone already mentioned, what about when ONE thing is out of stock? The waiting is too long, for me to wait until I need another $70 worth of stuff. I have this problem with another store too - their free shipping is $50 but two items were out of stock and now I am waiting and waiting and waiting until I need another $50 worth of stuff before I order again. There is another store I like where the free shipping is $75. I think I only buy from that store once a year!! And another store whose free shipping was (still is?) $100. I bought from them in 2006 or 2007 - although that store sold only stamps, not supplies, so it has been hard to make my cart go back up to $100 there. Now all that being said, I DO appreciate the free shipping, and though the higher the threshold goes, the less frequently I buy from them, I still do buy from these stores MUCH more often than I buy from stores with NO free shipping.

Some companies don't offer free shipping at all, so I'm still happy with the $70 minimum. I order from PaperTrey every few months, and it's easy to hit the minimum.

Emily brings up a good point.
If possible, find a shipping buddy. Even if it's not local but in-state, it may be cheaper to do the free shipping and then one of you ship to the other...and split THAT shipping in half.
Person A and Person B each buy $35 PTI products and ship it to Person A's address.
Person A then spends $5 to send Person B's items to him/her.
They each have just spent $2.50 more to ship the items to Person B, instead of PTI's CURRENT (it may go up!) $6.95.
No, $2.50 isn't free...but it's better than $7.
To me, if I could choose between FREE shipping and FAST shipping, I'd prefer PTI to work on the SPEED of their shipping process.

I agree with a couple of other posters here - if you could order things that are out of stock, $70 would be ok. It just seems like they never have everything I want. And when I do decide to order, it takes longer than other places to get it. Guess that's why I haven't placed an order in a long time!

I may be missing something but on their new site, it still says free shipping for $60.
I do not see the stamp talk section and
What are rewards. I have $66--what are they for and how do you use them?
Thanks for your help.

I think that free shipping for $70.00 is pretty good. There are so many places that don't offer free shipping at all. If this was Walmart or Best Buy would you be complaining? I think the fact that they offer free shipping at all is amazing, and a gift. You do have th option of not spending the minimum, but if you think about it Stampin' Up NEVER offers free shipping.

Depending on what you're ordering, the weight of a $70 purchase could easily mean that the package would cost $10+ to ship. The company would lose more than 10% of your purchase just from shipping alone -- not to mention the percentage lost on credit card fees, plus the packaging materials, etc. I guarantee that these companies are not trying to MAKE money on the shipping -- they're just trying not to lose their shirts!

With the new site go-live, the "free shipping at $70" change is in effect.
Note that the forums are down, but there's another thread here on SCS to talk about the new website pros and cons.
