I see so many beautiful paint cans on site and would love some instructions/details as to how to do them so wonderfully as y'all have. First off, where do I buy them ( other than a paint store I guess)....Do you paint them so they're not metal looking, how to measure, glue used etc.etc..I am wanting so much to have that my next project....I would appreciate any/everyones input in this......Thanks so much,Betsey

YOu can use the cans as planters. You can cover them in wall paper scraps or contact paper. I have used them in my classroom hanging from the wall with colored fabric "pouring" out to look like paint. I have also used small ones as pencil holders after decorated. You might try looking at art & Craft stores for paint cans. Hope this helps. May God Bless.

You can buy them at Home Depot, Lowes most likely any home inprovement store. I have not painted one yet but I bet you could. I have covered mine with cs and embellishments. I find my glue gun works the best for this type of project. Have fun.
I have made some for b-day and baby shower gifts. I used patterned paper and cardstock plus embellishments and used the Scotch permanent double sided tape to adhere it to the paint can. I did not paint the can before putting paper on it.
I purchased my paint cans at a local paint store. They only charged me $2 each. I'm just getting into the paint cans, but I ended up using sticky strip to hold the cardstock on. Double stick tape wasn't strong enough for me.
Thanks again for all the tips and to Jen for the wonderful directions. I now have '6' paint cans sitting in my craft room, ready to 'take on a new look'....I am now excited to creat them......Thanks gals..

I found paint cans online. They were much cheaper than at the paint store. I'll try to post the website. It's been a while, so I hope I can find it again. You could de a Google search for paint cans. That's what I did when I found mine.
I have made a few paint cans. The most fun is tieing all the ribbons around the handle and the opener (which I hang on the side.) The last one I made for a door prize, so I wanted whoever won it to be able to use it however they wanted. So instead of sticking any sentiment on permanently - I took a very thin piece of board to make a small "sign" (the thickness of popsicle sticks) and decorated that with the word "HAPPY." Then I put a couple strong circle magnets that you can buy at Michaels, on the back of the "sign" and then it could come off and she could add her own theme/sentiments. I am so mad I didn't take a photo first.
