Packing and moving scrapbooking and stamping supplies-Help!
Greetings,
I will be moving in a month's time. However since I will be in temporary living for 3 months, my belongings will be in storage.
I have two questions,
If you could only take a certain amount of your crafting 'stash', what would you take?
Also do I have to take extra precautions for packing supplies? For example I have tons of paper, do I need to worry about moisture? paper mites?
I am told the storage facility has the same conditions as an ambient temperature room(70'F), whether I believe that is a whole other thing!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
My husband has nightmares about me bringing too much to the temp. living, maybe I should leave the husband behind so I have more room for my stuff!!!
Before I packed up all of my stamping supplies I stamped a bunch of images and I kept the images and my coloring supplies out and packed up everything else. I was able to do some coloring so that I had images precolored for when I unpacked all of my stuff and I wanted to make a few quick cards. As for packing everything, especially the CS, I just used boxes that were a little bit bigger than the size of the CS and I packed some smaller stuff in and around the CS so it didn't have a chance to move around at all, or if it did it was not going to get banged up in an empty box. I am not sure about the storage part, as we stored everything in our old house until we were able to move it to our new place. Good luck with the move.
As a retired military spouse, I faced the lowest bidder moving my stamp stuff and it was SCARY! Here are a few tips I used:
1. Ask for a box at your LSS or office supply store that fits your paper. Pack it snugly so it doesn't get bent.
2. Wood-mounted rubber doesn't do well in the heat. Make sure the facility has temperature control before storing them there.
3. Tape all inkpads shut, put all reinkers in ziplock baggies, and pack your own stuff. If movers are packing you, be aware that they usually just throw stuff in boxes, tape the box, and move on. Scary.
4. As for pulling out what you need for temporary living, think about the time of year. What will you want to make? Christmas cards? Gift boxes? Birthday? Then plan accordingly.

I second everything in the above post. I pack everything in my craft room before the movers come. Be sure to label your boxes so you will know exactly what is inside. "Christmas stamps" instead of "stamps," "12 x12 scrapbook paper" instead of "paper."
Three months will go by quickly and you will probably not have time to do a ton of things. Maybe just a birthday set, a few things for upcoming holidays and a floral set for all-occasion cards. Paper in white, ivory, a few favorite colors then pull out the inks and markers that go with those colors. Remember your paper trimmer, scissors and adhesives and you should be good for that short of time.

When we moved, I put all my supplies in plastic tote bins so that water, etc. wouldn't get in. The other posters had good ideas too. When we unloaded, the church volunteer who ended up carrying all my craft supplies in told me his wife was an SU demo - so I was able to connect with other stampers right away!
I just want to second, third, and fourths the "taping the ink pads shut" thing. First time I moved with ink pads all of them slid open. This time, I taped them all shut, and packed everything myself. All small items I placed in ziplock bags. Otherwise they will just get tossed in a box and lost as you are unpacking.
These ladies have the best ideas for packing and temp living.
I give a shout out for stamping images and taking your favorite coloring medium. Stamp lot of images! Scrapbooks require too much to pack ahead of time, unless you have pages almost done that need to be assembled and require journeling or titles.
I moved 3 times in 4 years and two of those moves were to different states.
One of my best moving friends was blue painters tape . You can use it to tape anything and it will not leave a sticky residue when you remove it.
I also used RubberMaid type totes so things didn't get crushed
Ink, paint. glue, or anything that could spill was in plastic freezer bags from Walmart. Not the zip closed type those can leak
Not craft related, buy the other thing I used a lot of was plastic food wrap.
You can wrap it around things such as your silverware tray with the silverware in it. It makes unpacking much easier.
Be sure to remove your ink cartridges from your printer if you don't move it yourself. Mine was packed upside down and ink ran all over. We did get a replacement printer from the carrier.
I taped each ink pad shut and placed it in a zip lock. All ink refills also went into separate zip locks. I packed my paper in plastic totes. Also, tape your stamp sets shut. Remember no one cares more about your stuff than you do--so pack it yourself for best results. Good Luck!
