I couldn't believe that one also. I would never pay that much for a set, no matter how bad I wanted it.

Holy cow! That's crazy.

Guess it is the same principle as why there are Rolls Royce cars - some people need to spend a lot of money on whatever they buy.

That is just stupid if you ask me! I am sure if that person would have gone to the BST forum and waited long enough some one would be willing to sell the set for a much more reasonable price simply b/c they are done using the set!

Being curious, I checked on her history, and she has paid some pretty hefty prices for some stamp sets before, so..........to each his own! My personal rule of thumb is that I WILL NOT bid any more that what the set cost in the last catty it was in. I don't need ANYTHING that bad! LOL!

Its all perceived value and desire. Just like someone said, that's why there are Rolls Royces. I live in Los Angeles and money flows like Niagara Falls here. Stuff like that doesn't phase me a bit anymore. I live in a world where people spend $150 on a pair of jeans for their kids. There will always be big spenders and then the rest of us! My whole retired list order and pre order came to $150. I'm getting 6 sets plus ink pads out of it.

A square step punch went for $56 this afternoon. You could buy 5 and have money leftover. People are not thinking when they get in a bidding war.

Not a huge amount of interest in the set - there were only 2 bidders! 2 bidders who wanted it badly LOL!

Default why can't I ?

Why can't I have a stamp set like that in my Grubby little hands to sell on Ebay??? I could use that cash to buy new rubbah from the new catty. Of course, I think I would feel too guilty taking this person's money...well maybe not...

Bidding on your own items using another account is called schilling and it is illegal on eBay. I don't know about having a friend bid on it for you, though. Not sure if there is a way that eBay can catch anyone doing this.
I agree with everyone else: way too expensive for one set. When I want a set on eBay, I will never pay more for the set plus shipping then what the set originally cost. If I don't win, I will find the same set from another seller and eventually I will get what I want, or finally decide that I don't really need it that bad.

And who knows...maybe the buyer will be reselling it when she's done with it, expecting to get as much, if not more. The real question is, will she be disappointed?

See I have seen a beautiful set used with dragons and a castle etc but it is retired so am imagining that that would be for a horrendous amoung of money, but it was beautiful, I would be happy with some images of it, lol but to spent over $180 or £90 equivalent, my hubby just hit the floor, lol

Exclamation HOLY STAMP FUNDS, BATMAN!!

I wonder if it WAS a mistake, maybe a typo on the bidders part? But then again, it did take two bidders to get it that high...

Check this one out! I wanted this set and kept an eye on any that were put up on Ebay. I finally got it from a really nice lady and I only paid the catty price.
