Just thought I would check to see what you ladies think of this shelving? I have been looking for something I can put on the back of my work area so that everything can be in front of me, in reach and organized. I like the concept of all the compartments and drawers. What are your thoughts?
I agree it all depends on how you like to store things and how your space is set up. It looks like a great shelf that would hold lots. You can look here to see how I've managed to keep most of my stuff within easy reach. This set up may not work for everyone, but it has worked extremely well for me. It was also extremely affordable, which is an added bonus! LOL
i personally wouldnt be happy with that shelving unit. when i get my stamp room rearranged maybe we should start a thread with storage ideas for our craft spaces
I would love a shelf like this. My shelf is just a tall CD rack turned on it's side which sits at the back of my desk. Ihave plastic tubs which sit in the "openings" and all my pen and tool holders sit on the "top" which was actually the side. Most of my othe stuff is in those clear plastic drawer units.
While I like the idea, it depends on the setup you're adding it to. If you've got a traditional counter, it might be as little as 24" deep. If you add that shelf directly on top of your counter, you're losing over half of your counter depth. It's also pretty tall, will you be able to reach the top? Just something to consider.
On the plus side, with that depth, you'd be able to store 12x12 paper if you wanted to.
Well I went home and measured. Like the previous posted mentioned it would take half of my table space. I really like it if only it was 8 inches in depth. I am going to IKEA in a couple of weeks maybe I will find something there.

I want your stamp room! Do you think I could convince my children to share a bedroom so I could use one of theirs for stamping? HA! Not likely...

Awww, but what's a little sharing between siblings? Well never mind, in my house that can equate to WWIII. LOL My stamp room has been a long time coming and I have been very blessed. DH is VERY supportive of this not so little addiction I've got going on. In our previous home, my stamp space was a small corner of the basement that was barely big enough for my desk. I definitely feel spoiled!
Having taught preschool, kindergarten, and 2nd grade, I've often thought that the 'cubbie' system would work so well in a stamp/scrap environment! I have a large workspace and a big bookcase, a filing drawer with a hutch above it, and a couple of 'cubbie' units from Target. Only the Target units were inexpensive! I'm glad I have my nice area to stamp, but my kids are grown and I now have the extra space! Hope you find exactly what works best for you.

The container store has this ELFA Shelving and you can TOTALLY customize it the way you want to.. Thats what I have in my stamping room.. plus as your collection grows you can rearrange it at any time without having to remove screws or anything from the wall. If you have a store near you they are having a 30% off sale till the end of May I believe.
That looks like a great storage system....but way too rich for my blood! I'll stick with IKEA!!!
Its really not that expensive and it is made very well, so it will last! I bought a desk from IKEA and it is already falling apart :( not even a year later!
Yes those are them! They are expensive to ship so if you have a store close by thats the best! They also sell baskets and hooks to go with the rails and I bought some of those too.

OMG you are right! I ordered (I attempted) order 3 of them, but it was 21 dollars to ship! Oh well I will have to find something else, I dont have an Ikea in TN.
great shelf! I have cubbies, shelfs, and draws. The most valuable for me is the elfa drawer units. I bought the drawer divider units....everything has it's "place". I can open a drawer and grab what I need without digging or rearranging.
I have background stamps and ribbons stored on a shelf. That works well because I can see it all and grab the one I want. Put my shelves on narrow...don't waste space (unit is maybe 4 inches wide?)
I also have shelves where the space is divided into "cubbies". Each cubby is maybe 10"Wx12"Dx13"H. Those spaces work well for vertical paper storage in those plastic paper holders (like magazine holders). But I have straw baskets in some of the cubbies where I keep all the eyelets/brads, one with all my utee/heating pan/molding stuff, etc. Those straw baskets - although they look pretty....you can't really fill them to maximize space usage because it's kind of an issue digging through to find what you need. Even the basket with the eyelets...I have the eyelets and brads in those 28 compartment medicine container plastic things. It's still kind of an issue finding what I need. It works, but it's not ideal.
So I'm glad I have a mixture of storage. The drawers are my favorite. But I wouldn't want to be storing all the designer papers in drawers. So I feel like I'm absolutely of no help to you! good luck in your decisions!

I have seen people get things from Home depot or lowes.. it just need to be a rail that is about 1 1/2 away from the wall..
this might be too deep for your desk, but it was cheap and holds LOTS neatly. I got the cube at target for under $40 and DH mounted it on the wall for me. The black boxes were from Michaels when they had them on sale for $1 each. There are more pics in my gallery to get an idea of scale.

Has anyone found anything like this elsewhere? I'm not going to pay $21 in shipping, and the Ikea "near" me is probably at least 50 miles away. Hardly worth it for a couple of curtain rods.
The closest IKEA to me is 45 miles but it was DEFINATELY worth the trip - I got a bunch of the Bygel rods for my punches, baskets to hang on them, cheap glass picture frames, and assorted other great storage items. We spent the whole afternoon wandering and came home with a cartful of great stuff!!! Can't wait to go back again.
A couple of things to consider (i.e. lessons learned) - everything needs to be adjustable. Your organization needs will change over time and you don't want to be locked into a specific sizes for shelves and cubies.
Check out how much weight each shelf can hold. I have a recycle material book case and after about 3 years the shelves sag. I've flipped the shelves over to take out the warp and after a couple of months the warp is back. If it's going to hold any weight (paper & book) it has to be sturdy.
I purchased Scrap 'n Cube drawers over 3 years ago! Best purchase I have EVER made besides my Stampin' Things unit. LOVE my Scrap 'n Cube, and I have purchased more pieces over the years. The drawers are different depths so my storage is maximized. I also label each drawer, and I know where everything is. This unit is solid wood and will be passed through the generations. One of my girls already has "dibs" on it. Here are a couple of pictures.

Well, I was wrong. It was only about 30 miles away. I have no sense of direction, and evidently no sense of distance either. I had to go pick my daughter up at college today, and there is an IKEA just a few miles away. Unforutunately, she had had a long day and didn't feel like wandering. I bought more rails than I needed because at $1.99, I figured it would save me from coming back. I also bought a couple of baskets to hang on the extra rails. (I did pick up a set of 4 of the clear "spice jars" with the silver lids. I think they were $3.99. Everything all together was under $20, so that was a worthwhile trip!
Now, I need some help:
1. Since the rails don't come with the necessary screws, can someone help me there? Did you just try different ones to see what fit?
2. Did you put the screws in studs, or just in the drywall? I'm afraid that the punches will pull it right out of the drywall, but the studs are not in a convenient hanging place. :(

Depends on your wall, if the screw holes fall pleasingly on the studs, by all means, proceed.
Otherwise, get some drywall anchors which will go into the holes first, and then run the screws in. It's not as if it needs to hold 100lbs, but you do want it to be sturdy.
Yes my dh put up all my rails with drywall anchors since they hold a lot of punches! It just makes them more secure. I am sooo happy you love the rails too. They are awesome!!
