Default Odd question about crediting an image

I have stamps from several companies that are now defunct (Stamp Camp, Angi-b), but have been picked up by another company (Technique Junkies) and are now being sold under the new company's name. I wouldn't have even known this had happened had I not been at a show and noticed the stamps from the old companies at the new one's booth.

Which company do I credit if I make a card with those images?

I'm probably thinking about this too much.

Since I do not sell my cards to the public, but send them to friends and family, I don't think too much about stuff like this.

Do you have a business selling lots of cards? If not, I don't think I would worry about keeping up with tracking companies who sell or change their names.

I'm thinking more about when I post a card to my gallery here. Like I said, I'm probably overthinking this.

Sue, with respect, and in the kindest way, my opinion is that you are indeed overthinking this.

As far as I know, there is no hard and fast rule that you must identify the stamp company when you post a card in the gallery here. It is merely a courtesy to post the name, if you want to, so that others can know what it is, if they're interested.

If it were me, I'd post the name of the new company. That way, if someone sees your card(s) and love it so much they want to buy the stamp, they'll know where to find it. (Yes, I've been known to see a card in the gallery and immediately NEED the stamp they used. lol)

I, too, have a whole bunch of stamps from various companies that are no longer in business. I began stamping back in 1982 so it doesn't surprise me at all that many are no longer around. I have been diligent at noting the company I bought them from when I removed them from their wood, so I think I have almost every stamp identified where it came from. They don't always have a name...for example PSX just gave a number to their stamps...but if they did, I noted that as well.

Forward to today. I try to post the name of the company when I share here. But to be honest, it's totally impractical to try to hunt down which company might possibly maybe have shown an interest in one stamp and bought the image. I'd spend hours on each post if I did.

That said, I have a few stamp lines that I know are available at newer companies. IF I know it, then I will note that the newer company might still carry the stamp. I just don't have time or energy or desire to keep up with 56 companies (yes, that's how many different companies I have stamps from...not counting SU) current status.

Hope that allows you to stop over-thinking! Relax!

I agree with Diane - IF you know the new one, go ahead and put that info. I have 83 companies represented in my stamp collection. Before you get weird about that, let me note that some companies are represented by only one or two stamps in the entire collection, lol. I have NO idea what happened to the various companies after I purchased said stamps. I put the name of the company that I purchased the stamp from unless I know FOR SURE that someone else is now carrying it instead...

I assumed she knew the new companies already, since she mentioned they were being sold under a new company's name. I'd never suggest she waste time looking up information she didn't already know. Personally I'm just grateful people are kind enough to post cards to the gallery. If it weren't for the gallery I'd get very, very few cards made, since I CASE the majority of mine. If there isn't much information listed I can still copy.

I'm impressed that you know how many companies are in your collection.

I only know that because they're indexed that way... Can you say "OCD"?

well, I have a great deal of House Mouse images, and my oldest ones are from Stampa Rosa... and over the years a few companies have picked up this line.

I write what is on the blocks I have. ( some of those oldest ones have not been picked up by the newer companies, but when they do the stamps name stays the same is what I have seen with that line)

Just a note: I recently purchased a Stampendous cling (called Reindeer Games) of a House Mouse image because I did not see it by the name on the package on my personal list only to find out when I got home that I did already have that same image under another name when it was through Stampa Rose (Having a Sleigh Ride).

I was quite surprised.

Personally I would say the name of the company that sold the stamp you have, but if you are aware of a new company selling that image, mention it so that others know where to purchase it from.

I would credit the company that purchased the rights to the image as they technically are the new owners and producers of the stamp.
