I have no idea who I would send a card to with a Skunk on it with Big Stinkin' Deal! I have no idea who I would send odd lawn ornaments to with even stranger sayings. I also find that rodent set verrrrry strange! I think it is called Hip something. Which ones do you think are just as odd as can be. Oh, yeah, that psycho santa on the motorbike is absolutley scary!!
I think the Stampin' Fun For Everyone is kind of wierd. When would you use such stamps? I also think that Mix & Mingle and Stay tuned are cute but again when would you use them?
I must say there are more than a few sets this time around I think are odd. Some are new, and some are old...but why keep them, or keep adding to the strange ones??? I know there is something for everyone...but some of these just seem plain wierd! JMHO....

Business Boosters (pg 18...does anyone beside demos order this? If not, then it should not be taking up valuable catalog space and be available online thru the demo website. (JMHO)

I'm also disappointed with Stinkin' Cute. I guess I was hoping for a skunk that looked like Pepe La Pew (sp?). And, what a horrible looking squirrel in the set Super Squirrel. Not even squirrel related saying to make you buy the set and then go out and find your own squirrel!

Oh I had a PERFECT opportunity for the "Stay Tuned" set this past week, but of course I didn't have it...
Our Pastor had surgery to reopen a clogged artery in his heart, and there is a world renowned surgeon visiting our area. They video taped the procedure and close circuit broadcast it to a conference room at the medical school. I would have LOVED to make him a get well card with a heart in the tv screen!
Some of the sets may not be my personal taste, but I don't find any of 'em "strange". Art style is subjective, and dependent on the viewer.
That is the beauty of a company--any company--that offers a diverse assortment of art styles, set concepts, etc. It offers the widest variety of appeal to as many stamp aficionados as possible.
Variety is the spice o' life, right?! ;)

There are *many* home-based MLM business owners, such as Simply Tasteful, Longaberger, Mary Kay, Party Lite, etc. who enjoy stamping as a hobby, and have asked SU! and the demonstrators, repeatedly, for such a set. It's not solely appropriate for art stamping demonstrators, but for anybody who operates a similarly structured business.

Good thing there are plenty that I like!!
I LOVE no place like gnome. It's the first on my list. My hubby loves flamingos and I love the gnome and frog. The only thing missing is a planter made out of an old Tractor Tire. Now that would be great!
the new "sampler sayings" on page 187 is really not my thing, I guess each to there own I have to say I exspected a bit more cool stamps than there were, I alos don't care much for the stlye of the "mix $ mingle" or "stay tuned", but then again i also think "living large" and "time with you" are sets my 8 year could draw. but again it's, I'm guessing just a style type that i don't go for. I really hope the mini comming are worth the wait.
I'm torn about No Place Like Gnome...there are some stamps I think I'd never use, but I happen to eally like the one of the guy holding hte lantern. I know--I have strange taste, but he just looks good to me. (no coments, please, ladieas ) I think I would use the little frog, too, but I just can't see myself using any of the sayings that come with it, so I will probably never have my lantern guy. *sniff*
One that I thought was wierd at first but is growing on me is Tu-Tu Terrific.
Does anybody know who or how the new designs are decided on? Probably a group of SU graphic artists ~ but is there any input from demos or customers as to the type of stamp sets that are more popular than others?
I agree with Julie though. There may be just the special appropriate occasion to use a certain stamp, and many of them can be combined with other sets to make a special card.
Let's face it, we are all different with different tastes. It is good business to appeal to a diverse cliental. There are some sets that I can't stand, but I know that there are customers out there that will love them.

My SU demo also sells Longaberger....Can you imagine the financial trouble this is for me?? lol!!!
I agree that not everyone likes the same stuff. Just saying I was disappointed - I had a certain look in mind when I read what people were saying about the new catty before I got it. I'm sure when stuff starts getting posted with some of the stamps sets, I'll will have to have it!!! lol!!

I guess I'm in the minority, but I love that squirrel and the skunk also!! My 11 year-old DD just went crazy over both of these sets. The style of these stamps is very similar to some of the newer cartoons or those cutsie tee-shirts that my kids just love. I have to admit, I'm not crazy about the sentiments, but I snap stamps!!!
I love both of them too!!!!!!! So I guess you're not alone in the whole weird thing... LOL I also kind of like No Place Like Gnome... I have one in my garden.. DH just shakes his head when I 'find' new yard 'art'.. I have a skunk there too, she's adorable.

I sell Longaberger but I have the old business memos. The one phrase that new business set is missing is "thank you for your business" - you'd think that'd be the first phrase they'd put in that set! I stamp the old sentiment on all of my receipts so I don't need it personally, but still...
The set I think is weird is the "All Mixed Up" one - someone will probably do something cute with it, but for now, it's too spooky looking for me - yuk! Strangely, I'm not bothered by the gnomes or squirrel sets (I don't want them, mind you, but they don't bother me).
I love the Hip Hip Hooray set! I have small kids and this would be great to do their birthday invites, thank you's, and even scrapbook pages with. It reminds me of the movie Over the Hedge.
I also love the Stampin Fun for Everyone set. I think it would be great for invites to a Stampin night with your girlfriends. It's also great for Demo's. And it's also great for scrapbooking any photos of your crops.
I'm never really into the nature sets, but that doesn't mean I think they are weird or bad art. They just aren't my thing. I like the cutesy stuff, but I'm sure as my kids grow my tastes will change.

I really like the skunks (lol) I always say that stinks though , so i guess it would be whatever people like! I find the knomes disturbing and find it strange thatthey had to get knome friends on the very next page lol . So i guess they want to cater to all different types . I like alot of set's in the catalog but was hoping for something way cooler than what they gave us , but I think this year will be a good year as a demo and all I can say is here's to next year!!

I love the "weird" sets! I think No Place Like Gnome is so much fun ... especially for wall hangings or something. I am really short and not quite as skinny as I was once upon a time, and that one about hanging out with shorter and chubbier people than me is precious! I think the skunk set is great for scrapbooking, and an attorney at work who has really gotten addicted to stamping says that all the time, so I told her I knew it would be on her list. - Gay Howe
For some reason, I like the Stampin Fun for Everyone set. If I become demo, which I am seriously considering, I'd get that set and use it for invites, etc. Also, a friend of mine who sells Home Interiors uses the Business Memos set for her business. Julie's right...it's all subjective. There's something out there for everyone!
"One (wo)man's junk is another (wo)man's treasure!" Some of you gals need to explore more companies, if you think some of these in the catalog are weird, lol! These are quite tame!!! There are a lot of things I can't see myself using, either, but chances are a lot of you have already ordered them! I guess it's one of those "to each her own" things, kwim.
Actually, a lot of the so-called "weird" styles are the absolute latest craze in scrapbooking. The ones your 8-year-old could draw? "Doodling" is very very hot right now, and SU is not the only company coming out with that style of stamps. Same with the stitching one...a lot of people have been doing all kinds of things on their cards, embroidery being only one of them. <shiver> WAY to labor intensive for me, lol!
I'm just happy SU puts out a big enough catalog to have room for so many different styles! I've yet to see one where I couldn't easily spend myself into serious debt with!
I thought we were all just commenting on stamps we personally don't "get", and not saying there shouldn't be any sets in the catty we don't click with.
I personally don't get the Fontastic BG (or whatever the one with the letters all over it is called). I think the concept is super cool, but the result in the catty leaves me a little cold. I'm sure once I see some samples applying the stamp, I'll change my tune but for now and for me it is just a plain weird stamp! I'm sure all the ladies who fell in love with it can handle me saying this.
I like most of the sets mentioned in this thread - then again...don't tell anyone, but I kinda liked the charming children stamps. I missed them, too. Didn't remember that they were retiring.
I find the one stamp in the I did it, kinda odd, why would you check "copied"?
I think it would be like CASE except that non-stampers don't know what CASE means. That way whoever receives the card won't think you came up with the idea yourself.
Ok, I don't *get* Unfrogettable...I know there's scads of people on here who absolutely loooooooooove it, but I don't. (I'm probably a minority of one!) I think Frolicking Frogs is way cuter...I don't think that Unfrogettable is strange, I just can't figure out what the big deal is over it and why so many people are gaga for it. But hey, that's just me. No hate mail please! Maybe I just don't like it because I don't have kids...not into that kind of style.
I also think the ATC one that has the stamp that says "Write personal message here" or something on it is weird.
I just love this new catalog. I am a newish demo and this is my first time with all the new catalog excitement. I love that SU seems to be heading towards the designed/graphic/modern/up-to-date type stuff rather than "country cute" stuff. I love the design of the skunk and squirrels, but not fond enough of skunks and squirrels to buy it. If only they were little birds, or something cuter.
Oh, I forgot...I was surprised that the new catalog didn't have any new baby sets or journaling/scrapbook sets. I thought that was very strange. DH (I've caught on that that means husband, but is it "darling husband" or something? There is a lot of acronyms going on around here and it's hard to pick it all up. There should be a scs dictionary) and I will be in the baby stage of life in the near future, and I wish that there were new sets.
