No, Cheryl, not you! It was in the main intro, describing them as the latest edition to the range. I'm sure it should have been addition.

And you're so right, Joanne. But even in the days when I used to do the company catalogue and would get three other people proofread it, as soon as it came back from the printers I'd start spotting mistakes .

Eek, I just closed my tab with the gallery. I was just going to see what else I could spot in there.

Did nobody else read those Madeleine L'Engle books?

Yes, that's why they are greatly valued in their jobs, Brenda! We had a presentation for math majors when I was in college (that was before I changed my major from math to economics/finance), and it was fascinating to learn about all the different careers for math. Actuaries intrigued me the most. But I ended up going into finance, and I loved it. But I am sure Thing2 loves her job!

And it's no surprise at all that Thing 2 was voted "most artistic" in her high school graduating class - even with all that mathematical and spelling talent. I couldn't believe that she'd only been stamping for two years.

Easier to proofread something in which you have absolutely no involvement (or even interest!).

Anyone with more hints on Thing 2? Since time is short, I will give a good hint. She has a baby in her avatar.

Joanne, sometimes I'm not only one who will do it. And having loved English, I also love grammar...and remember all my diagraming of sentences. They no longer teach that in school...very sad IMO. It sure helped me understand the structure of sentences.

No but the theme title actually made me think no of the Diana Gabaldon Outlander series!

Me too, Sabrina. That was a big surprise. It was sweet to read that she was one of our "newbies." Sigh....

That I remember from the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, I had never heard of parsing before I read it in whichever one she wrote about it. The one where she got her teacher's cert, I think.

I think formal grammar teaching has gone out of fashion and back in again judging by the terminology my friend's kids use at school! Even I have to look some of it up before I'm sure I know what they're talking about and the example they've just produced is really what they were meant to be doing!

Well, I was around for Cheryl's but that was exceptional because it's usually a time I'm busy with dinner prep, and having coffee with DH. But I agree, I'm sure it used to be a much busier thread back in the day.

I did Latin, so that gave me a very good grammar grounding. And German, for a couple of years but it was while I was wearing a brace so I missed a lot of classes for dental visits.

It's interesting, most of my formal grammar knowledge comes from studying foreign languages, too (French and a tiny bit of German in my case).

Well, that's good, Joanne. I sure hope they are getting back to basics...not that anyone would know it. I seriously doubt teachers would even know how to teach it? Not sure. But perhaps they are brushing up? Of course, one of the "sticklers" I have is how they are changing the AP (the style book for publishing - both in news print and also in academic work). It's truly appalling for this "ole gal" who wants to see it go back to the real basics. Does anyone even know that a gerund is these days...let alone using them correctly? LOL!

And......

we welcome Jen, Jennifrann, to the Dirty Dozen.

Here's the all-singing, all-dancing Wrinkle in Time gallery.

And now I'd better go and start the dinner. Thanks so much for your company and the chat, ladies. Joanne, go on enjoying your holiday! Have a wonderful rest.

Yes, studying foreign languages is very helpful in learning (or brushing up on) grammar. I studied French in high school and Spanish is college. I actually used Spanish more when we were living in NJ but have forgotten most of it...sadly. Well, it's time! See you gals later...and thank you Sabrina! Hugs, all (Sabrina, Brenda, and Joanne)! xoxo

Ah! I forgot my phone on my desk when I went to lunch and couldn't chat with you all! Thank you for the warm welcome! And now that my spelling bee champion secret is out of the bag, I better be very careful of my spelling on future posts here

Also, yes, Africa. I have to be careful when I'm searching Google for "Freetown News" because I end up with stories about Ebola outbreaks.
