Default Need your help...Christmas for the Troops

*************************************************
READ BEFORE SENDING

If you have any remaining cards please go to anysoldier.com and find a soldier to send your cards to (and maybe a care package ) I am sending Tawnya 400 cards which is way more then she needs, I have given 50 cards to the other local military wife to send to her husband, and I have receive (and will send off this week) the 350 cards.

As lovely as the cards are....I really don't want anymore...I am all carded out (is that a word?) So, send them directly to a soldier...you may even get a response back from them.

I have the names and address of 15 guys in different parts of Afghanistan but you will need to pm me for those.

Thank you everyone for helping make this possible.

Yes, I can do this. I made Christmas cards a few years ago and by the time Christmas rolled around I was so tired of looking at them that I never mailed them out. I just didn't like them naymore. I can send them to you.

This is great, trying to get 350 men/women each a Christmas wish.

Bugaboo if you will supply me with your husbands APO address via email I will send him boxes of at least 200-225 which is the normal amount I send per box these days. Please send me a PM. I could ship to you but then they need to be shipped twice and the only ones who benefit in that event is the Post office. Normally I send out cards that are blank on the inside for the troops to send to their loved ones. Will that work for you? Please let me know, if I have already asked you and you said no I apologize in advance for repeating myself.
Blessings....

I would rather not give my husbands APO out unless he says I could...he is not clear on what I am doing...so, I am unable to get permission which means I am unable to provide you with that information. Also, I will not be sending the cards until right after Thanksgiving...he does not have a great deal of room in his tent and would have no place to store them...which is why I am collecting the cards. I also need to make sure I have a total of 350 or more cards before I send them as to assure everyone gets one...if there are not enough I will just make more to get the number. I am also including other things in the box for the guys. You understand

ps...to let everyone know...I will try and have DH take pictures of him handing out the cards (this will be hard, he does not even send pictures to me now...but I will try) so everyone can see what happened to them.

Thank you soo much ladies. I am so happy that with your help this goal is going to be met.

Heather

ps....just so you know...I have had several people tell me that I should just donate to some organization to have the cards donated. While that is wonderful there is no guarantee that they will go to my husbandís station. Unlike the other three groups that are spread out in Afghanistan (that are from the same group here in KY), his group is the farthest out and sadly are forgotten (IMP) about most of the time. For example, if a helicopter canít bring the mail (because of missions that are more important) they get nothing. There shop (BX) has three magazines (that is not 3 types...that is actually 3 magazines). I have sent him so much stuff because they donít have itÖlike razors and even toilet paper. I donít want to step on any toesÖI just want to explain why I am going this routeÖunderstand

Just to let everyone know...if by some chance (and I am crossing my fingers on this one) I receive more then 350...I will send them on to another organization that will give them to more guys over seas. My DH will not have any contact with guys out side of his station so it would be usless to send the extra to him (he could not send them to another stations close by...some thing about theater or what have you...dont ask...I dont know). Thanks again so much to everyone...I am giving you guys an e hug.

Thanks for sharing Plan B (what to do with the "extras" ). I was cogitating this earlier and trying to decide if mine would make it in time to be useful. Now I know that they will be sent on to another troop.

By the way, I've also been thinking about the message I would write inside. The only thing that's got me bugged is I don't know how to start it. "Dear Soldier", "Dear Marine", "Dear Warrior" ?????? You get my drift! What branch of the service is your DH in and if there are extras, would they be sent to that same branch of the military? Thanks for any guidance you might give.

I don't think it would be useless, guys over there could use the extras to send home to family. But, of course, you can use them however you feel is best.

Heather is asking us to write a message inside the card for the soldier -- these cards will already be "used" and wouldn't be appropriate for them to send back home to their families. At least this is my understanding of what she is requesting. Please correct me if I have missed something here.

Default I have christmas cards!

I have done christmas stamp-a-stacks for the last 2 years and I always make extras so I can use them to mail out, but I still have a lot left over from last year. I will print out my label list so I know exactly how many I need and then I will mail you the rest! I'll try to get them out by the last full week in October.

"Dear Servicemember" was always a good one when my hubby was in Kuwait.. This also eliminates the need to know what branch they are in, eliminates offending of it the receiver is male/female, and it shows some sort of respect..

OR you could just write;
"To a wonderful person"
"Fellow American"

A lot of times while soldiers are deployed they want to feel like they are not. They don't always want to be reminded they are soldiers away from their families. They want to be reminded that they are men and women who are just at work. They need that oasis away from the "desert" so to speak.. That brief moment when they can forget they are fighting a war they didn't ask for but are serving with pride..

Ok.. I am off my soap box now!

I love your idea of using "to a wonderful person" or "Fellow American"! I'm a little uncomfortable with the term Serviceperson - ugh! It sounds like it's addressed to someone who buses a table not puts their life on the line for us. "Fellow American" works just fine for me! Thanks for the suggestion.

I agree! I don't like the term Serviceperson either, I just think it's too impersonal. I like the term wonderful person or even "someone special", because they ARE special to me for what they are doing for us! Just my thought!
