School will be ending for my kids in about another month or so and I am just looking for ideas as what to make for teacher's gifts. Anyone got any good suggestions.
As a first grade teacher, I can tell you any of the post-it note holders/pen sets are a Godsend - we go through them so much! Anything with magnets, paper clips, and/or tacks would be a good thing too! Adding some form of chocolate makes it all that much better too!
Around here it seems that the parents and teachers love gift cards so a cute gift card holder card with a gift card is nice. YYou can offer to make a few and the room mom can collect from the parents to put towards a gift card.
Since I have issues with giving gift cards I don't usually donate for that I do my own thing. This year (and last) I made the teachers name frames. My oldest is in middle school now so I made her teachers a covered post it not holder that looks like a little bookmade with the coasters, a RSVP pen, jumbo paper clip bookmark and a magnet. I put them in a cello bag with a topper. She handed them out on Fri (last day) and they all loved them they were showing them off. I did take pictures I just didn't have time to post them yet.
I teach homebound children, those that are too sick to go to school. The parents of my kids have been giving me Walmart cards as gifts, they know I purchase gas for my car with them. I know it doesn't sound glamourous but with gas prices, I need HELP! That an a card with a personal sentiment really makes my day!
I always have done a collection of small size note cards---mostly thank you sentiments---usually around 20 or so, wrapped up with a giant clothespin or clippie bookmark and a rsvp pen. Teachers have always told me, they appreciate the fact that they can use the cards to send thankyous to the students and parents and the clothespins are great for on their desk to hold notes. I usually put in a gift card to Staples, or a book store also.
As a teacher, I think that unless you know the teacher and his/her style really, really well, gift cards are the way to go. Even just a few dollars to a coffee shop is greatly appreciated, especially with a nice note written by the child.

As a teacher, I can say that I appreciate handmade gifts and notes with specific things. I've used notes from parents and students in applications and for other things teachers have to apply for. I also think gift cards are greatly appreciated, even in small amounts, for a local craft store, bookstore, or teacher supply store.
I did candy bar wrappers with "have a sweet summer" and the By the Shore stamp set on them, and included a $5 Starbucks card for the art, PE and music teacher.
The classroom teacher I purchased something because she's been really great to my daughter and I wanted something permanent for her, in the items she collects.
For my grandsons teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week I made teacher coaster boxes with a set of matching note cards inside.
Also made some altered coffee containers....put Kudos bars inside with a coffee house gift card.
Unfortunately I don't have them uploaded to SCS yet...but they are on my blog.
ya know, I made post it note holders and beaded pens for all of my daughter's teachers and not ONE Sent a thank you note? one did tell me how cute she thought it was and how her mom wants to make them for patients this summer but that is it. the rest said not a word about them. of course, they've been awful all year and if my daughter would not have pushed, i would have given them nothing!
