My dogs ate my swaps!

Agggghhhh! Less than 24 hours before I leave for Denver and my dogs ate two bags worth of Hershey nuggets that I already had decorated and they destroyed my nugget boxes I made for my swaps.

I cried for a half hour.

Awww, sorry to hear that!
I suppose it wouldn't help to go eat some chocolate? That's USUALLY a good fix!
I'm attending session 2 - your FUN is about to begin, while we have to wait until next week.
Have a great time at convention, and don't be too mad at the dogs!

I'm so sorry about your nugget boxes -- all that hard work! Are your puppies OK? The paper is probably fine, but chocolate is really bad for dogs.

Oh, no! I have a friend that her dog ate all of the christmas cookies that she had made for the neighbors, she was seriously ticked off! And that is not NEARLY as important as convention swaps!!

I'm so sorry! That sounds like something my Cosmo just might do. I've been keeping anything I've finished in a sealed container way above his reach--I have definitely learned from experience . . .

I hope the dogs are ok - chocolate isn't good for them. My dogs have eaten a variety of things including a stamp - they like the wood, stampin' sponges, sample cards on my display board and cash that someone paid for my class. They also like the cardstock scraps that end up on the floor. Sorry about your swaps!

chocolate can be toxic for dogs. i'd keep an eye on it. i found this article of interest for you:

http://www.netpetmagazine.com/articles/choc.tox.html

i hope they are okay. keep a close eye on them. it's pretty serious.

I don't know if its the particular dog but he has never had a problem and LOVES chocolate. We have to hide it from him! LOL

OH man that stinks!!! Kip (my dog) ate two boxes of valentines candy and we had to induce vomitting. I hope your pups are ok. Very toxic! I'd call the vet to see what should be done.

I am sorry about your swap though.

So sorry! That's really awful!

You can give your dogs hydrogen peroxide to help them throw up if they ate the chocolate.

I went to answer the door and my husband's dawg (it's always HIS dawg when she misbehaves)got up in the chair and ate all my peanut butter cups. An hour later, I remembered that I had opened the package and went to hunt them down... all 4 of 'em...GONE!!!! Brown paper and all. I thought it would be bad too, but didn't seem to matter. The next day she did it again with the Mounds. What a chocolate ho. She's 12 yrs old and still acts like a young pup.

Totally off the original topic - has anyone actually ever heard of a dog getting sick from chocolate? I have always been told it's toxic, but I've never heard of a dog getting sick from it. Every dog we've ever had, at one time or another, has gotten into some chocolate. Little dogs, big dogs, whatever. One even had a good portion of a 1 lb. chocolate bunny (and then hid the remains under a couch cushion!). None of them have shown any ill effects from it. Not that I would feed my dog chocolate or anything (what a waste!)...

beecreative, I am so sorry for you. I don't know if I'd cry or be so stompin' mad, but I sure wouldn't be very happy. Maybe some nice ladies will hear of your plight and give you one of their swaps at convention?

My first year going to convention, my daughter placed her wet bathing suit on top of my trades before I got them bagged up. She was swimming at my uplines while I worked on the trades. and when we went to carry the box home that the trades were in, she just threw her bathing suit on top. I didn't discover until we got home. I cried too. I know your pain and I hope that you can still make a few trades that have a real high ratio of great samples.

My dog does throw up after eating chocolate so I keep it far away from her. I did see on the local news about a dog that did die after eating chocolate. So I think it's possible. I think the big factor is how much they eat.

My dog ate a Hershey's kiss and she only weighs 5 1/2 pounds so I called the vet and asked if it would hurt her, and the vet said that for a dog her size it would take about 3 ounces (at least thats what I think she said, but it was a while ago. At any rate, it would have taken a good bit to hurt her).

That totally sucks! I have two dogs and when we first got them, they ate everything. They loved the wood baseboards in the house, and unfortunately, one day I got out of the shower and found them chewing up my brand new oak dining set. I cried.

When I was a little girl my dog ate my chocolate easter bunny. He puked everywhere. I think dogs usuallly vomit the chocolate, or it causes them to get "the runs." Never heard of a dog dying from eating chocolate, and I am related to a vet.

Enjoy convention, maybe you can throw together some new swaps, not so fancy, but something to trade. Good luck! Have fun! Keep us posted!

It depends on how much the dogs weigh, and how much they ate. If you call your vet and estimate the amount (in ounces) that they ate, they should be able to tell you if you need to induce vomiting or not.

Sorry about your swaps!!!

OH WOW that really stinks!! Sending huge hugs your way!!

p.s. It is the DARK chocolate or cooking chocolate that is super toxic to dogs. Depending in the size of the dogs and just how much they ate needs to be determined by you and your vet. Larger dogs can tolerate more than the smaller ones, of course. Hope the doggies are ok.......

I've read that it's actually the purer the chocolate the more harmful...milk chocolate is a small fraction of actual pure cocoa or chocolate so it's not as bad. But that's alot of sugar for a dog. I would be upset if my dog ate my swaps especially so close to convention. Bad dog!

So sorry this happened!

Mostly it depends how "dark" the chocolate was. The more "cocoa" bean in the chocolate the more toxic it is for dogs.. so baker's chocolate and dark chocolate varieties can send a dog into convulsions. But most milk or white chocolate will give a dog stomach cramps or the runs.

I have had a dog get sick from chocolate- the dark kind.. so I learned the hard way.. She was ok in the end, but I had serious worries and a trip to the Vet ER.

I am sorry to hear that. My "puppy" as my dh likes to call him, ate an entire tray of strawberry cupcakes 5 minutes before I was supposed to deliver them for valentine's day! I know how you feel. Hopefully someone at the convention will share or help make new ones if you have ANY spare time while there.

I once made sixty-five cards from a simple scrappin kit . I was standing there admiring my MANY hours of work my daughter came over and spilled a whole cup of coffee on the whole lot of them! I can at least sympathize with you.

Bless your heart! I feel your pain. We have a 6 month old Toy Fox Terrier. She is so adorable and we love her dearly. It's a good thing she's so cute and affectionate because otherwise I might have to strangle her! She's eating the house down. We are newbie dog owners and are learning the hard way about keeping EVERYTHING put up. But even when we do, she still seems to get into things we thought were safe. She's a jumper too. I can't believe the things she's gotten to.

I hope you have a wonderful time at convention.
