My Cards Are in the Latest Issue of Take Ten!!!
Hi y'all:
Please bear with me for a bit o' braggin. I returned from a trip to the Big City yesterday a bit disappointed that the Border's bookstore we visited did not have the Winter 2011 issue of Take Ten yet. My mother noticed something yellow sticking out of my mailbox when she and my brother dropped me off. I figured it was an ad circular or a product test that wouldn't quite fit into the mailbox. Imagine my surprise when picked up the yellow thing and noticed it was some sort of magazine, a Stampington one, in fact. I didn't remember ordering any magazines from Stampington or anywhere else.
Once inside the house, I opened the package to find it was the latest issue of Take Ten and finally read the yellow thing. It was a sheet of paper announcing that my cards had been published in Take Ten! The latest issue has five of my cards in it. The issue will not be on newsstands until December 1st, which explains why Border's didn't have it yet.
AJ Otto, who is one of my favorite bloggers, also has cards in this issue. There are probably other Splitcoasters as well. Brava to all!
This post is less about bragging than it is about encouragement. I've been sending cards to both Take Ten and The Stampers' Sampler since January with no success until now. As some of you may know, I'm a bit of an oddball who does not do cute, does not own Copics, does not have a Cuttlebug (yet), does not have a gallery here, but who nevertheless has the gall to occasionally and annoyingly rant about rubber stamping becoming too scrapbookish. Frankly, I was getting discouraged and had pretty much decided that my cards were not cute enough, not vintage/grungy enough, and just plain not good enough to be published. What I'm trying to say in a very long-winded way is this: GO FOR IT!! Take Ten is publishing cards from the very cute to the very artsy and everything in between. You may as well send in your cards, because you never know what will catch an editor's eye.
Moderators/Administrators: If this thread is in the wrong forum, needs to be moved, or needs to be deleted, please forgive me.

Thanks, Patti and robth. Leave it to me to make a long post and leave out pertinent information.
The cards are "Imagine" on page 39, "Create" on page 65, and three cards featured as "A Different Point of View" on page 100. The funny thing is, the cards that were published were not my favorites among the submissions I sent in this year.
Thanks, and happy stamping to everyone.

Thanks, Mary Beth and Linda.
To answer Linda's question: "Imagine" on page 39 has a light blue background paper, three strips of paper (olive Basic Grey paper topped with white cardstock stamped with a music backgrounder) on the left side, and a stamped image called Small Face Frame at the center. The sentiment is on the bottom right. All papers other than the white cardstock are from Basic Grey's Periphery collection. The card doesn't look quite as weird as it sounds. This card was submitted in response to a recent design challenge.
"Create" on page 65 is very simple and sorto rustic. I used black Archival ink to stamp a bird with a Maya Angelou quote and a sentiment onto tan and white marbled fabric. I attached the fabric to white cardstock with two off-white brads. The fabric looks orange-ish in the magazine, but it is actually tan in real life. I submitted this card in response to Take Ten's call for cards that include stamping on fabric.
The three cards on the "A Different Point of View" page all use the Small Face Frame stamp. The stamp is at this link: Small Face Frame stamp "Believe" is all in blues and tans/beiges using K&Co. papers. "Hope" is olive and white using Basic Grey Papers and some plain cardstock. "Imagine" has olive and cream cardstock. All three have tiny amounts of bling. None of the cards were submitted in response to a call or challenge. I will probably retire the Small Face Frame stamp for now. . Edited to add: That's not quite true. I submitted the cards with a few others that were intended for the "A Different Point of View" section but never expected any of them to be published.
I hope that those descriptions make sense. All five cards have flaws, most of which are not visible in the magazine, however. Do the best you can, but don't let a tiny flaw keep you from submitting your cards to magazines.

A huge thank you to Dee, muscrat, JudyKruger, Tanya, Teri, Holly, Debbie, smriti, scrapbook4ever, Michelle, Susan, mary rose, and Jennie! I really do appreciate your support and kind words. Sorry for being so late to reply, but I've not been on here for almost 24 hours.
To answer Michelle's question, no I don't have cards posted to a blog or gallery, mainly because of not having a digital camera until a couple of days ago. Would you believe that my sister gave me a digital camera the same day Take Ten arrived in the mail? Maybe that's a sign.
For anyone who is still nervous about submitting your cards to magazines--maybe that's only a few Splitcoasters--go ahead and do it and keep doing it. Take Ten is showcasing a variety of styles, including some that could be considered CAS. If Take Ten is not your thing, there are other magazines out there. I made every excuse in the book for years, but finally took the plunge in January, figuring there was nothing to lose other than a little time and postage. If you are hemming and hawing, just steel yourself and make that first submission.
Thanks to everyone for your kind words.

Sheila some day I will try it, appreciate the words of encouragement. Now that you have a camera you will have to show "us" your cards. I have never seen this magazine but will be looking for it now!!

@Michelle: I hope to learn how to use the camera in the next week or two. If I get pretty good at it, I may post some cards here.
@Jennifer: Thank you!
@Glenda: Thank you. I see that you have several cards in this issue as well, and they are gorgeous! I'm assuming that you are aware and have already received your issue. Otherwise, please forgive me if I have spoiled a surprise.

Sheila, thanks for the lovely compliment. It takes awhile longer for magazines to reach Hawaii, so I haven't gotten my copy yet. I was aware of a couple of my cards because I saw them on them on the Take Ten preview at the stampington.com website. Maybe I will get my magazine next week.

Oh no! So sorry, Glenda. I didn't think about the number of days it may take for things to get to Hawaii. I love the image of the woman with cookbook on your "You Can't Beat True Love" card.
You may still be surprised when you receive your copy of Take Ten. And that's all I'm gonna say.

Thank you Pamela, Sharain, and Cindy.
@Cindy: Yes, I remember your cards and cover from the Fall 2010 issue. I loved the colors and the variation of your cards. Great work, and a well-deserved cover and feature article.
