Default My card was cas'd...but it's on an SU demo site..

My card was cas'd... no direct credit given, just a mention that it was recreated by an image found on SCS, but then I found it on her SU demo site.

I don't think I could do that to anyone out here...

I think a PM to the caser (at the very least) is in order...

That is terrible! If you are going to CASE then at least give credit where credit is do! Did you contact her, I would!

Do I pm her first, or report the card? It would not be a big deal if she cas'd it on SCS, she did indicate that she was inspired by a card she saw on SCS (no direct credit). But when I saw it on her SU site I was a little mad.

Since she indicated that she was "inspired" by a card on SCS,maybe she truely didn't remember who made the original card. I know there was a time that I had a card in my mind that I had seen on SCS,but I didn't remember who made it. It might even be on my gallery,I'm not sure, but I believe I wrote "inspired" by a card seen on SCS and I did say I didn't remember by whom. Maybe you should PM her first instead of reporting it and see what she says. Only because I truely meant no harm...however I don't think mine was exactly the same, but probably close enough that if they saw it they would know!

I don't know anything (re: rules) about the Stampin UP Demo Site. But, if she said she got the idea from a Splitcoast Stamper, and did not take credit for it as her own design, she probably is totally unaware she has done anything wrong. She probably liked the card...

I'd just send her a pm asking her to either give you credit or remove the card. SU's rules permit demos to take cards done by other demos that are on the SU website and put them on the demo's own SU website. (clear as mud!!)

When I first became a demo I was so clueless I did that and did not give credit and someone complained and I felt horrible, really horrible. I was technically within SU rules, but I made a huge faux pas and was glad someone told me.

So, she may have made a mistake, it may be intentional, who knows??

Even though she did make the card herself, it seems a bit off to use a CASE of something that is inspired by another individual when it will be on a website she uses for commerce. SU demos have so many other resources for card images and inspiration for use on their sites, I personally think they should stick to using those or their own creativity for their demo sites.

In total agreement....

I did not bother me that she posted the exact duplicate card on SCS and gave a casual credit, but I feel she crossed the line when it came to her personal SU site.

I just created and sent her a pm.

Just out of curiosity I called SU support to fnd out what the policy is. Just for clarification, I am no longer a demo and did not create/post the card when I was a demo. This card was also inspired by another card here on SCS and I had a direct link to the card in my card description.

According to SU.... This demonstrator is in violation of the SU Policy. It is against SU policy to display an image created by someone else (let alone a non-demo) without permission.

But they did say that I need to add the SU copyright watermark to my image. So...later on when I have time I need to search for the information on making watermarks.

Just out of curiosity, has your pm to the demo been answered?

Then I was wondering...did you tell Stampin Up that your card was "CASEd," or that the image of the card itself was taken from SCS and uploaded to her site? I guess maybe I'm unclear as to the circumstances....(NOT unusual by any means, I assure you!).

No response yet from the pm or email I sent.

I called DS and asked if it was against SU policy for a demo to have a card displayed in their personal SU gallery that she did not create. DS asked me if I was a demo when it was created and displayed. The answer was no to both. She asked me how the demo obtained the image. I explained that the demo recreated the card based on my card that was displayed on a different site (no mention of SCS). DS asked if all the images were SU and if the images have the SU copyright. She warned me that I need to be careful with the SU images and and make sure that that SU copyright is displayed. DS wanted the demo info and told her that I want to resolve the issue on my own and that I was just curious as to what the policy was. DS did not state what the exact policy was, she had to put me on hold, but she stated that the demo is not in complaince with SU policy for posting the card.

I see where I caused the confusion.. I worded this badly...

Quote:

I should have stated...

The DS was in noncompliance of the SU policy for displaying my image under these circumstances. Hope that is clearer.

... this was my bad... I should not have worded it this way...hope I did not ruffle feathers.

Ok.... I guess I have a "stupid question"..... isn't the point of posting cards to share? I mean, I look at cards/images/projects and often CASE them. I tell my customers that I use internet resources for my inspiration and that I at times copy from other demos- they know that it wasn't created by me originially. Obviously I don't stand at my shows and state "I give full credit of this design to Susie Q in Idaho".
Just like when my customers copy my cards I don't ask them to tell everyone that they made the card but I designed it....

I understand the issue is that she posted it on her site.....and you said that she said that she cited her original inspiration as SCS (but no specific name). ..... so I guess my question is "isn't that the point of you sharing- to inspire others". It sounds as though she recreated the card and then posted it with an "inspiration given elsewhere" note. Am I right????

Guess I'm just confused as to what is the point of posting on SCS if you don't want people to copy you???

If she actually TOOK the UPLOAD pic from here and put it on her site, that is WRONG.
But you made it sound like she made her own card, one that looks like yours that you cased from someone else, and put her HANDMADE card on her Demo site. That is my understanding of what you wrote. If so, she made her own card with your cased card as inspiration, so I see no problem.
If she took the actual uploaded image from here, then thats not right.
Just trying to clarify what you wrote!

I don't think they meant a "SU copyright watermark"; not everyone has the computer software to place a watermark over an image. I'm sure they meant to make sure there's a SU copyright statement *somewhere* on the image. ALL of the images in the SCS Galleries have a copyright statement below EACH image:
Quote:
Some Images© 1990-2006 Stampin' Up!
So we don't have to worry about that in terms of the images we post in the Galleries.

Okay...now I am angry. I am the person who CASED the card in question. I saw it on the site here and wanted to create something just like it. A few weeks later, I sat down and stamped the card. I did not print off the card and I didn't remember who had created the original so I SAID I CASED THE CARD FROM SOMEONE HERE ON SCS (but I guess that is just too casual now). I then posted the CARD I MADE on my SU site...NOT A CUT AND PASTE OF HERS FROM HER GALLERY!!! THAT WOULD BE AGAINST SU RULES! I only post cards I ACTUALLY MAKE on my SU site so my customers can see what I am capable of.

I NEVER post things other people make (demo or non demo) and take credit for it...

I then received a NASTY email and pm from the OP ragging at me for not giving a direct link and taking credit for her work...WHICH I NEVER DID!!!

As far as SU - I am in contact with them and I am NOT againt compliance - I even added the OP's screen name to the card that I created with my own two hands!!! My SU web site showcases cards that I make - NOT OTHER PEOPLES WORK. If the OP would have contacted me first and asked a few questions, she would not have jumped to the wrong conclusion and made incorrect and very public accusations.

I am terribly hurt by this whole thing. I am an HONEST person who always gives kudos to people who inspire me. I guess some people don't want to actually inspire others. Some only want the pat on the back. I guess I didn't pat hard enough. Thank you Tanyan 23 for asking the right questions and others for trying to gather more info before making judgements.

Sorry if this sounds rude or snarky - I am just a tad bit hurt.

ITA- there are so many threads about people CASE'ing and not getting credit-Once you upload your creation here, it's up for grabs for casing - it's the whole basis for the gallery! Don't sweat the small stuff, try to be flattered instead!

If she actually took YOUR uploaded image, yes, i can see that being a problem and you should address it. Your watermark on a photo will prevent that in the future. But if I read this right, she made her OWN version of your card, uploaded a pic of it on her site and said "inspired by SCS" ? She's done nothing wrong...

no offense but thats kind of petty if some one copied something of mine to a T i wouldnt care if my name wasnt mentioned its not like im famous and anyone else would know who i am. And if she didnt flat out say she designed it then let it go! We are on here to share ideas and help each not nit pick each other! i see cards all the time and remake them but for the life of me i never remember who makes them Just my opinion hope i dont offend you

There is a big difference between image theft and casing. I got the impression from the OP that her card was cased by a demo and that demo posted the card on her website, and she said she was inspired by a card she saw on SCS -- no big deal. Now if she had actually taken the original photo of the card that was uploaded to SCS and put that on her website (which according to the post she did not) that is image theft. That is unethical as well as noncompliance with SU! There is a world of difference!

Excuse me ... who is hurt? You post your recreation on your personal SU site without stating that you were inspired by non-demo and then respond to me telling me I am out of line becuase your card is laying flat and scanned while mine is open and has a basket in the background. But it is your card because you made it with your own two hands. No one accused you of pulling my image. I just wanted you to remove the card from your SU site.

And you are hurt? I don't care if someone cases my cards... go for it... but when you post it on your SU site without giving credit to being inspired by a non-demo I believe that is what I have an issue with. I contacted you via pm and email and had no intention of smearing your name in the chat. We could have resolved this on our own outside of the chat. You accuse me of not giving you a chance... well what did you do? You came in here and starting accusing me of ragging and sending you a nasty email. Well that is real nice. And who is hurt? Did you give me chance to respond to you? Did you give this a chance to work out outside of the chat... no you did not. You came in here and trashed me...

I don't usually jump into things like this but since she created the card herself, she doesn't have to remove it. She never implied that she came up with the idea on her own and gives credit to the creator of the card for the idea. If she had taken your card and posted it and claimed it as her own, I can see her having to remove it but she doesn't have to remove a card that she created herself.

I went and looked and it says that it was inspired by you. If you click the card to open it, it says it clearly in the description.

Danne4, if you do not want to be cased, then don't post in your gallery. We can all put our cases up on our sites because we did the work, if not the idea. And you even said she only wrote "inspired by SCS" on your original post. Let it go. You haven't been wronged. I think you actually owe Colleen an apology.

wow... I guess I have a different perspective on things.

When I was a demo I would have never posted a card on my su site that was inspired outside of the SU world without asking permission to post the image.

Alrighty..... another snarky post... I say why watch Soap Opera's anymore when I can tune into SCS drama!!! ha ha!!!

I agree with geekgirl..... No wrong was done by Colleen and her getting singled out for things we all do seems pretty harsh....

So, moving on.... Let it go and I'm personally gonna tune out off this drama channel as the bashing can't be continued if no one is contributing and constantly bumping this up to the top "news story"!!!!

Actually, that's not what you said in your original post:
Quote:
...just a mention that it was recreated by an image found on SCS...
If a demo creates artwork with her own hands, she has every right to post it. Is it nice if she states that she was inspired elsewhere? Absolutely. Is it required? Not by SU rules. According to your original post, she DID state that she was inspired elsewhere. And while it doesn't name you specifically, I can understand that because it gets hard to keep track of where you get all your ideas.

That being said, I'm sorry both parties were hurt during this. But the fact of the matter is - the only way to completely avoid the chance of your stuff getting CASE'd is to simply not share it. Which brings us back to the question of why we post our samples to begin with...

Just some thoughts....

I prefer the definition of CASE to be: Copy And Share with Everyone - "stealing" is kinda harsh terminology and obviously feathers get ruffled with a lot less!

This is now more than just someone taking a card idea and posting it on their own personal SU site to promote themselves and their business.

I tried to work this out via pm and email without dragging her name directly in here. She came in here swinging, trashing me, accusing me of ragging on her and sending a nasty email. This is not the case. You think I should apologize? I do not think so. Out of creative courtesy I would never post a card on my personal SU site that I did not creat without asking the original creators. I think that is rude and if some of you think that I need to apologize for this then I am in the wrong place. You think I should apologize for being accused of ragging and sending nasty emails. You are looking in the wrong spot.

Obviously I do not agree with the copy and steal everything attitude to benefit our own personal business. And I do not care to be part of group with that type of attitude.

Well, I'm wading into this a bit late, but it seems to me that this issue is one that should be discussed privately, by the two parties directly involved, and not in a public forum.

Before it continues to spiral downward any further, I will lock it.
