Canvas background (was in the winter mini catalog, but SU extended it through the end of June). That stamp gets used on most of the things that I stamp these days. It was worth every penny plus.

Only one!?

I usually recommend Mini Mates to beginning stampers. It is pretty flexible. You can create backgrounds and there are some sentiments included. If you were going to pick an alphabet, I would recommend the Brushstroke Alpha set. My SU group did a Scrapbook Expo event and we took a lot of orders for that set. I love all of the background stamps and really can't think of one that I use more than the others - just depends on the card.

My favorite sets to suggest to newer stampers are the little layers sets. They are very versatile and easy to use Plus they look good on cards and scrapbook pages.

Besides the Canvas BG stamp, french script is another BG stamp that I find to be worth every penny, and also wonderful words is a sentiment set that I use often.

I do like the little layers sets, but the canvas background is my favorite right now.

To relatively new stampers I always suggest a versitile stamp set that you can color - like Little Hellos, Good Times, A Little Love... (all depends on your style). Along with that I recommend that they get the Basic Black Stamp Pad, Versamark, blender pens and the pastels. You can get all that plus the stamp set of your choice for a little over $50. You will then have all 48 colors to color your images with. The versamark if you want to watermark stamp or do poppin' pastels. So much you can do now and down the road when you accumulate more supplies. The problem with getting solid stamps when you are JUST starting out is if you only have 2 ink pads, all your flowers will be those 2 colors! If you get images that you can color in, you have a lot more room to change it up!

I always recommend "A Greeting For All Reasons" to new stampers. It gives you sentiments and images that you can use for almost any type of card you want to make.

One of my favorites and most used stamp sets is Fun with Shapes. I like that you can make packages, hats, and candles for a card. You can make Christmas ornaments, You can make candles for backgrounds. Make polka dot backgounds and you can use the little flower inside the circles and squares. I have used this one more than any other set I have.

I just started making cards though. I initially chose stamps that would be scrapbook and card friendly.

The only sets I have come across that I push on all occasions is the everyday flexible phrase and cool cat.

Shapes & Shadows has always been my most recommended. So versatile! Of course, after it was 1/2 off last month, now all my customers and friends have it!

I would go with a Little Layers set or In Full Bloom. It's hard to go wrong with Little Layers, a bonus all new stampers enjoy!

Shapes and Shadows!! I got it last month when it was 50% off and it is my FAVORITE set right now!!!! Pair it up with the Sincere Salutations set and you need nothing else (well, except all the cool accessories) =)

My first stamp set and one that I still use quite a bit to this day is Bold Basics. It's not as popular but it really is very versitile. A greeting for all reasons is good too because it has the setiment stamps included.

Have to say Shapes & Shadows -- I just love that set! Everything I've seen done with it is always great and I just love using it!

As for a background stamp -- has to be Canvas. Love canvas!!!

Itty Bitty Backgrounds
I use it on many of my cards to give texture to the background layer.

My first set was greetings for all reasons and I love it for it's versatility. It is great having the saying and seperate pics to go with them. It also provides the opp to colour the in with markers or the blender pens!

I am going with Amanda and Curly, I think if you can only pick one set, it should be A Greeting for all Reasons! I love the combination of sayings and different seasonal stamps.

I LOVE bold butterfly and the flitting by wheel. I alos use Greetings Galore a lot...I cut the greetings off and mounted it seperatly so its more universal.

One of my first sets was botanicals. it has it all a background words stamp, a sentament, and lots of images. one color ink and paper w/vanilla card stock and you have great cards. also good for men cards.

my 2nd choice is all natural same as above background and words good all year round just change color card stock.

I'm fairly new to stamping. My first set was Nice and Easy Notes. Covers everything - birthday, thank you, get well, no reason.
