Default More questions about joining with SU

ok, so what happens if your upline quits?

in the starter kit can you get a clear mount set for $28.95 and a wood mount set for $18.95 or does the wood/clear choices still have to correspond
Could you get all clear or even all wood mount?

I've heard this over and over so I'm gonna ask. What's an upline?

My upline quit about 2 years into my demoship. I really didn't miss her because she wasn't all that great at being an upline.

BTW - an upline is the person you started under as an SU demo. You have to sign up with someone who is already a demo. She becomes your upline and you are the downline. Make sense?

I believe you can as long as the prices are comparative.

So after you join under someone (your upline) what do they do for you exactly? Or do they not do anything except bring you aboard?

I think you have it backwards. The woodmount stamps cost more than the clear stamps. Not all stamps are available as clear stamps.

Well, it really depends on the upline. SU! doesn't require but REALLY ENCOURAGES us as uplines to support our downlines. But of course a lot of people don't. So before you choose your upline, ask questions:
1. Do you have monthly, quarterly downline meetings?
If so, what happens at those? Business coaching, stamping what?
2. What kind of support can I expect from you? And what kind of support do YOU as the downline need.
Those are both important. If you are someone who needs their hand held every minute, choose very carefully because that gets old really quick with uplines.
3. What will the upline expect of you??

What's important to you?? Why are you joining? Do you want to do this as a business?? or just for the discount. That all ties into the type of upline you are looking for.

So do a little research before jumping in. There are ALOT of amazing uplines out there and there are alot not so amazing.

Good luck!!

Your upline should be able to answer most of your questions. When you first start out, there are profiles to set up and other things, and your upline can give you help if necessary. My upline paid for me to go to a meeting which gave me lots of new ideas. We put on a "Stampin' Spectacular" together with 9 or ten women, some her customers and some mine.

Uplines will vary. Some might have only signed up to get the cheap prices. They might not be interested in mentoring a downline. Others will be trying to get lots of downlines, and some will have downline meetings.

If you want to get seriously into demo-ing you will probably want to recruit, and you will earn a percentage of what your recruits get. If you can get a good deal on the starter kit, it doesn't really hurt to sign up. You get discounted stamps and papers, the monthly Stampin'Success magazine and other stuff.

If it doesn't work out, and you don't order things (because of lack of customers, or a change in your income, or something else) you just quit when you don't make your minimums. SU gives you lots of training, but nobody every hassles you .

If you take the plunge, good luck!

Well, not a whole lot, other than you'll lose the support of that person and you'll become "orphaned" if her upline doesn't provide support.

As long as the price is the same or below, it doesn't matter wood or clear.

I think couple of benefits of local upline would be: easy to get together (to stamp, have face-to-face meetings, borrow things); and connection to other local demos. Depends on whether you think this is important or not.

ETA: Most important thing is to interview and make sure you find one who will support you in however way you want to do your business.

Use the "find a demo" link on the SU! website - that will get you a list of the local demos who have a business website. Take a look at their site ... is it updated? Do they have events scheduled? All of those are things you might care about. (Note - there are demos who do lots, but their business website may not be updated because they mostly use their blog.)

Right now is a great time to sign up.
Hope you join us!

Leigh Anne, I wanted to add that my upline is in a different state than me. I decided I wanted a good business demo as an upline. I am starting as a hobby demo. But I wanted to have the option, that, should I choose to make it more of a business, my upline would be able to be supportive. I also wanted someone who was well informed of anything SU-related, and how to run a buiness. I could have chosen a friend locally. But she's hobby, and I knew more about promotions and other info with SU better than she did. And that was BEFORE I joined as demo. The power of internet cannot be underestimated. The community here and on Stampin' Connections are extremely helpful.

Wishing you success in whichever path you choose.

As far as the stamp sets go, it's all based on price. For any of the stamp set selections, you can choose wood or clear mount. The price just needs to be the same or lower.

As far as choosing an upline, I encourage you to interview demos. There's so many demos that say "sign up with me and get this...." and then you never hear from them again. It's discouraging and frustrating.

Most of my downline is long distance (in my first level I have 3 locals and 7 long distance), but I train them through emails and my groups. They know that they can come to me with any question they may have.

There's nothing wrong with a long distance upline, but make sure that your personalities click and that you are comfortable with his/her style of training. If you would like to attend meetings, then you would be better off finding a local upline (just make sure she holds meetings and wants to train her downline first).

Hope this helps!
