Default Mat sandwich for MFT die-namics rectangles?

I am posting this here as well as in the Product Section because I don't know where it should go.

I am planning to get the My Favorite Things rectangle dies (STAX 1) so that I can use the two biggest dies to cut a window in a card and emboss the window. I do not have the Spellbinder tan mats, I only have the PTI mats that I bought to use with their impression plates and my SU folders.

I saw this embossed window technique in an Online Card Classes video, but the teacher was not familiar with the PTI mats and couldn't tell me if they would work.

I am hoping someone here is familiar with them and with the MTF dies and can tell me if my PTI emboss mats will work. They are smaller than the Spellbinder dies by a bit and the larger one (4.5 x 5.75) is thinner than the smaller one (4.25 x 5.5). If they would work, I hope someone can tell me the right sandwich. I am using a Big Shot

Any input would be helpful. I'd also like to know what people think of the MTF dies as opposed to Spellbinders. I know Spellbinder also makes rectangles sets.

Hi there. I have the mats from MFT: Die-namics Embossing Pad Combo , but I am thinking they are probably the same as the PTI mats. You can take a look at the link above and see if they are the same.

I use the thinnest mat that comes in the set and I don't alter my stack at all. I use the platform all the way closed, the 2 clear cutting pads, and the thin embossing mat in between with the paper and Die-namics. The thickest pad won't fit in that stack, so you'd have to probably open one of the tabs on the base platform, but again, I don't use the thicker one, personally.

I hope that helps.

I'm a designer from MFT and I love MFT Die-namics (all of them).

Thanks so much for this, Jody. I didn't realize that the MTF mats were paired because they were two different thicknesses, and so you are probably right, they are probably similar to the PTI mats, except for the size. The PTI mats are not quite as big, and one is slightly smaller than the other. Still, before I go out and buy the MTF mats I am going to try your sandwich idea. I have ordered the MTF STAX 1 rectangles and should have them soon.

The teacher who demo-ed using the MTF die-namics mentioned the clear plastic that comes on them (the rectangles) and said you could either remove it or leave it. She had left hers on. What's the plastic there for? (I am thinking it helps keep the cut piece in the die.)

Again, thank you so much for answering my post.

You're very welcome.

I do like the large size of the MFT mats.

The STAX are all hand-finished and include the clear plastic backer. You can leave it or remove it just as the teacher said. The die will perform the same with or without the plastic. The manufacturer of Die-namics requires the plastic.

Enjoy your rectangles.

I did notice on your other thread you mentioned the mats moving a little when you roll it through your big shot. The same happens to me (usually) and as long as you have a larger mat or smaller die it isn't an issue.

Thank you for noticing that and taking the time to answer me about it! I did wonder if I was doing something wrong because the mats were shifting.

I am really looking forward to getting the dies. I have only had my Big Shot for a couple of months and so far have been using only wafer thin dies that go with a few of my stamp sets. The ability to emboss will be a fun addition for me.

Again, thank you!
