Cool

I got all my baking efforts delivered for my corporate United Way fundraiser, and of course, forgot to take a picture. But I could take a picture of my disaster of a kitchen, what a mess. But I delivered two pans of white chocolate cranberry cookies, two loafs of pumpkin spice bread, one pumpkin truffle cake, and 10 pkgs of dipped pretzel rods. I decorated everything up with curly ribbon, made punch labels, I just hope it sells, and if it sells, the person buying is pleased with the baked good.

What's the deal with Target, no Halloween stuff out yet. Wal Mart, and Dollar Store got the jump on them.

It's a little while until Christmas, and I don't want this thread to get lost.

I'm excited about my latest project! I wanted to share what I'm making for all the teenage and young adult granddaughters in my family (6) and other gals (to be decided, lol).

They are called "Hipsters" or "Mini-Shoulder Bags". I stopped a gal I saw in Walmart while I was shopping and asked her about the one she was wearing. She had made it, and it looked pretty simple but was really cute. Here is a link to a pic of one on Etsy:

Shoulder Mini Handbag by clubaloha on Etsy

I found some wonderful brocade fabrics at Walmart on the bargain fabric table, and I already have lots of leftover fabrics for the linings. Now I just have to buy some black cord for the handles and velcro for the closures.

Oh - and make about 10 of them.

You gals that don't sew should jump in and give it a try. It's almost as much fun as making cards.

If anyone is interested in making these, I have some info about the black cord used for the handles. I looked all over the internet and the cheapest I found it was 99 cents a yard, you had to buy a whole bunch, and shipping was atrocious.

So I charged off today to find it somewhere local. I couldn't believe how much prices can vary on stuff like this.

Joanns had the cord - for $3.99 per yard! Yikes! A bag takes 1-1/4 yards, and I'm making 10, so I'm not liking that at all. 50 bucks for handles is a bit much.

Next, Hancocks. They had it for $2.99 per yard. A little better but still too much for cheap me.

Last, and best, Hobby Lobby! The very same black cord was only 79 cents a yard at Hobby Lobby, and today it was on sale for 30% off. Score!

I will post a pic when I get one done.

I don't actually have a pattern. I'm going to adapt from this basic bag pattern/tutorial and change the dimensions to a mini, about 5-1/2" x 7-1/2". It's a great simple (I think) pattern for a lined tote bag.

If you look at the tutorial, you can see that it has straps made from matching fabric. I'm going to use the black cord for handles instead, and attach them on the sides rather than the middle. I'm also eliminating the step to round the corners on the bottom of the bag, and just leave them square.

Thank you, Cathy. I'm retired, so I'm motivated by the fact that I have way more time than I do money, lol.

My hubby knows from long experience that I am not to be interfered with when I am "on the hunt."

When I say to him, "Bye, sweetie, I'm going to run down to (name of store) for a few minutes", he smiles and says, "Okay, see you tomorrow."

I have been looking for ideas, especially for Halloween baskets for the teachers. I finished a rosette wreath, will post on my blog later this week, when I get some down time. I promised the grandsons I would bake cinnamon rolls and deliver to their classes this week. Well, some of those kiddos are big eaters, I am looking at at least 120 cinnamon rolls, so I got to looking on cooking sites, and found a recipe for cinnamon roll coffee cake. Will post if it turns out decent.

Patrice, I have posted some photos of a gifts using jars on my blog. I made one using a traditional Irish Tea Brack which we make for Halloween. I'll post recipe and instructions later if you are interested.

Hi Bugga,
I was thinking of you today! Just scored a HUGE box of sample material that was FREE on craigslist. I'm thinking that the samples were for furniture and drapery, but the pieces are good sizes and some duplicates (throw pillows?) and some that would make cute bags (hint, hint lol). Some patterns are so ugly, I would not let my dog sleep on! I guess there is no accounting for taste.
Anything I'm not using, I'll let my Sunday School kids have fun with.
Maybe I'll try my hand at one of those bags, I'll use the ugly pieces first for practice, though. ha ha.
Have a great weekend.

Sharon, I'm happy for you - but just a little jealous, too! You really should try making a bag. I posted a great tutorial earlier, at Skip to My Lou. Check it out.

Here it is again, so you won't have to go hunt for it:

Okay ladies, I'm on a roll! You better hurry up and catch me. It will be Christmas before you know it.

Here is a link to picture of darling, adorable fleece boots I'm making for all the gals, and in dark guy colors, for all the guys. I just bought the pattern on Etsy and I'm so excited to get fleece and get started.

And getting back to papercrafting, I've made several sets of these notecards, and I'm going to make more. I made the card box in white and added a matching belly band. They turned out really cute I think, and were quick to make:

Hey Anne,

Yes, would love to see any ideas you could come up with. Where have I been the last few days? In a fog I guess, laundry is done, so I guess I am doing something productive.

Anne,

Also I will be visiting Ireland next June, flying into Dublin, had no idea it was such a large city. I am visiting web sites, see if there is anything on the tour list I don't want to do. I may be pumping you for info.

Great news. No bother pm me any requests and I'll do my best to help. I am on holidays myself from this Thursday for two weeks. So anytime after that I am only too happy to check out stuff for you. Hey you have to make some time for crafting while you are here too !
