Those candies ARE cute! Our school doesnt allow any type of sugar in the schools. I understand their point, but when kids have a Bday they have to bring in fruit. On the up side, my Daughter's bday is in August, so we dont have to worry about hers. My son starts K this year, his bday is in March. They also arent allowed to dress for Halloween. And no party can be holiday specific. It makes it hard to do cute things as a Homeroom mom!

Schools sure do know how to take the fun out of being a kid these days! Healthy---yes but no specific holiday celebrations??? Sorry..I think it is good for all kids to be exposed to ALL holidays. So I guess you can have a winter party? A spring, Fall and summer? But no Christmas or Hanukah? No Martin Luther King or Lincoln or Washington Birthday?
BUT The Teachers and Schoolboard vote to take those very same days off as holidays! Sorry...stepping down off of soapbox now. I just think it is funny...I went to Catholic schools, but had to go to school on those holidays but had the jewish holidays off. I learned to appreciate all religions and points of view. Oh well...I will try to think of some Un-Celebrations like they had un-birthdays in Alice in Wonderland.

See that is exactly how I felt!!! I sent my daughter to school in Kindergarten with her costume in her backpack. They hadn't sent home a note about costumes, but they also didnt specifically say no costumes. I showed up for her "Fall party" in costume, along with another class room mom (also in costume). Her teacher had a halloween costume, and they had mummy dogs. But NO halloween party! Our school is the only one in the area that doesn't have a Halloween parade, or Halloween parties. It's sad really.

They dont celebrate Valentine's Day, however they DO allow the children to give out Valentine's! Go figure!

Default Christmas Shopping/Card books?

Some where along the way, I saw that someone posted a link or pictures to either a "Christmas Card List" or a "Christmas Shopping list" altered notebook. I am thinking of doing some similar, and I wish I had saved the link. Can anyone please direct me to the link? Or if it was you that posted, could you please direct me?
I found some super cute christmas paper that I would like to use.

Thanks in advance!

If you enter 'holiday planners' in the search box and check 'show posts' you will get to all the post with planners. Have fun looking, I just staring browsing and there are a lot of clever ideas.

Hey Gina,

What a bummer, that is a no fun way to do things. My grandson's school has a big parade on Halloween, but they have to pick a character out of a book, dress up like them, and display the book during the parade. It's hysterical what some of those kids pick out. Some of my fondest childhood memories are the popcorn balls mom would deliver for the holiday parties at school, life was more fun before fat, calories, and carbs were discovered. lol

Thank you Judi! I found the one I was looking for! I had done a search on Google last night for Christmas Organizer and didnt come up with anything. This morning I tried Christmas Planner. Rubber Stamp Diva had the one I was thinking of. Trying to post a link, but it isn't cooperating...typing it out instead.

Our school doesn't have a Halloween party either-a winter party before Christmas and a friendship party for Valentine's Day. Makes me sad they don't get to have the fun parties we had when we were kids. Plus we can't bring homemade treats-just storebought due to allergies.

Our new principal is reinstating the annual Halloween parade - so good for the children to celebrate fun and silliness!!

I cant honestly say if it was this principal that changed the Halloween rule, however she used to be a middle school principal, and she doesn't allow to many "fun" things for the kids.

That would be terrific and right up my son's alley. He has gone as characters from his favourite books for the last few years now.

Thanks to everyone for sharing all of their great ideas! I love this thread!!!!

Oh, I love those comfort bags. Easy to make and I bet the lavender ones smell heavenly. I never realized you could make the rice filling so fragrant. I am going to do these for sure.

When my kids were in elementary school, only the kindergarten kids were allowed to have a Halloween dress up party - so Mr. Principal, YOU explain to her older sister why it is that she can dress up and wear a costume to school but the other one can't. It was the dumbest thing ever. So as a parent council member, I PUSHED really hard and for a few years we had the best Halloween family dances. They were the biggest attendance in the history of the school. But go figure, a new principal comes in and kiboshes the whole thing. She was a HAG!
