I thought I would try making Denise's lotion that was posted on here a couple of yrs ago. I have 2 questions--first the recipe calls for 15 oz of vaseline. The containers come with 13 oz. Has anyone made it with just the 13 oz? Wondering if that 2 oz will make much difference. Vaseline is not used much here and would like not to have to buy a whole container for 2 oz. Also--at the time many raved about the scent of the baby lotion at Walmart which was cucumber melon. They don't have that anymore--most have no scent or "calming" scent. Anyone have any suggestions on a nice scent and where to find it? Also, a brand for the cucumber melon was never mentioned. Is there a brand/scent you would recommend? Thanks

nina i have made this lotion for a few years. i've learned you can "wing it". for calming scents-try the baby dept. also i have used store brands-no problem.
when i mix mine up. i use my kitchenaid. i put everything in the bowl. start low-and i have left it to whip for along time. 10-20 mins. i get busy doing something else. so i just don't even watch the time.
my sister all expect this in their christmas stocking every year now.

Where do I find the recipe for the lotion. This sounds like a good thing to try.

Thanks Gayla for the info. I was wondering how long to actually whip it so I'm glad you posted that info also.

Here's the recipe: 15 oz vaseline
16 oz vit. e cream
2- 16 oz baby lotion

This was listed as Denise's lotion-I never did find the original post. At the time, many posted that they loved the cucumber melon scent. A brand was never mentioned, but Walmart was. On checking at Walmart a few days ago--there weren't too many scents-mostly unscented or a calming scent.

I found alittle more info on the lotion: mix all this together with hand mixer in METAL bowl(It will look like thick cake froasting). Then spoon into jars with a METAL spoon(note: don't use anything plastic or your stuff may taste like lotion). a previous poster stated that it made 9--8 oz with about 1/2 of a 4oz jar remaining.
Also stated: you really have to whip the vaseline for a LONG time first then everything else for quite sometime.

I found most of my lotion supplies at the Dollar Store. Target has a unscented baby lotion, and Wal Mart has masculine scents also. I had fun with the lotions, made party favors for a friend.

I got my vodka, homemade extract is now brewing in a cool dark place. Now looking for cute bottles for gifts giving.

I got my beans from an online company Sage Spice Co, and was delivered quickly, good quality, but a little pricey. I think I can find a better price, will start scouting around different companies. I read e bay has the best deal, money wise.

Also great on your feet and elbows too!

Here are some pictures. The first one is of the products that I've used, second one shows the vasline whipped and third one shows it all mixed together. You can use any type of lotion you want to, some people even use Bath and Body lotion, Jergen's, etc. Hope this helps some, oh, when I made this to give to my husband's co-workers one year, I used the 4 oz. jars and it filled quite a few.

I believe that this recipe was first shared on another Christmas thread and it was carried over to this one.

My sister made homemade vanilla extract for everyone this past year for Christmas. She bought her beans from Vanilla Products USA. I know she researched for the best price. She bought the Madagascar grade B beans and got some Tahitian beans for free.

I have the rolodex die from SU and I made mine using the months of the year and instead of making it for phone numbers I made it for important dates, birthday etc. I can't take credit for the idea because I got the idea from Michelle Zindorf's blog. But they were adorable. Each month flip to see who you need cards for. I decorated each months with appropiate themes.

I just want to give a shout out thank you to Denise for her lotion recipe. I made such a hit with it several years ago - now it is all that my family members want. So easy, and so good. . .

Thanks Mary for helping me out, again.

Happy Friday to all, remeber holidays are coming. Be a good time to check your spices, are they fairly fresh, don't waste your precious time on baking with less than fragrant cinnamon.
