I know it's been a few days, but I was wondering what you tried to erase it with. I homeschool my kids, but we do it very much like traditional schooling (our own classroom with charts and whiteboards and all). So ... I got my kids washable dry erase markers for when they need to write on the boards, and I noticed that they don't wipe off well with just the felt eraser. I have to use a wet paper towel to get them off.

It's just a thought ...

SO, this thread is incredibly long...is there someplace where ideas for gifts are posted in a list for example with a link so that one can go straight to it and investigate?

Thanks

I'm surprised it's still going, with 1800+ responses. I thought they closed a thread and "cleaned it up" after so many posts ... I agree, though, wading through several pages to get to one idea is a little discouraging.

I think someone said that they were going to do that, but I think they got busy with going to school and other things that we all get busy with.

Someone with more computer mojo would have to create the links. I would make a big mess of it.

Here is a cute idea for Christmas:
Candy Cane Christmas fabric coasters by Bluemoon - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

Many moons ago, I use to make and sell fabric coasters at a craft sale every year until the kids came along. I always had repeat customers asking for them too. Of course, I had to do it the primitive way and hand cut everything...lol! I always machine applique a heart on top. Used the popular colors back than....hmm, I think I still have a set around here somewhere, will have to post a picture of them.

Ok, here is a picture of some I made over 25 years ago, been put away, so they are a little dusty. I even put them in the holder and sold 8 coasters for $10.00 back than. First I sewed the two pieces of material together (right sides facing each other), leaving the top open and turned right-side out. Put poly quilt batting between the fabric layers and top-stitched around the whole coaster. Than did the machine applique.

Oh, please share a picture when you finish the quilt. I'm working on a rag quilt for a baby, hope to finish it this week-end, the little baby came on Monday, but it will be big enough for him to grow into it, would have had it done sooner but we've had three family members pass away within a month of each one, been a very depressing summer this year.

Hey Mary,

I will get a picture of the quilt, and probably a lot of other pictures, cause I broke my darn foot today. I am such a klutz, and banged my foot against a door. No extra coverage, so I am at work propping my foot up between patients.

And I had such great plans for my 10 days off. Oh well, life goes on.

That's so cute! Did you use the Scallop die to cut the squares? I've been debating getting that, and I see things like this and my resolve weakens!!

am2106...yes, I did use the scalloped square die to cut the material with, you could easily do it with a rotary cutter too. You can cut thru 8 layers of material in like 5 seconds. I hand cut all of the cotton batting that I used for the insides. The scalloped square is like 4.50 inches and I cut the batting at 3.25 inches (that way it doesn't show in the seams).
Here is a video on how to do one with bigger squares:

Hey Mary,

Cute quilt, love the colors. I went shopping anyway on Friday, the days had been planned for weeks, and hit some out of town fabric stores. I am going to do some holiday table runners this year, quilt with the free motion stitching.

I am a mammographer, so I am going to re work the idea with the pink whoppers, will be great for October breast cancer awareness month.

Here is a link to a video on how to make a basic bag:

Thought I would use some college material for the girl who goes to some football games, be a fun bag to have and also one-of-a-kind too!

Those rag quilts are so fun! Would it be possible to make something like that from denim? Or would that be too thick? I have tons of denim from worn-out jeans that I can't bear to throw away ...

YEP...you sure can! I don't know how many layers you could cut at one time with the die and machine, but you could also do it by hand and rotary cutter and ruler. Here is a link to a video for you:
YouTube - How to Make a Rag Denim Quilt : Size & Material for a Rag Denim Quilt

Let us know if you make one, and post pictures too!

I can cut 3-4 layers of denim with my Big Shot and scalloped square die, depending on the thickness of the fabric. Not quite as fast as using a rotary cutter, but I love the scalloped edges.

I used the one from Stampin' Up (shh...actually I found the die at Jo-Ann and I think I've seen them at Archiver's to, but don't tell anyone ). You might try one of your Nestabilites and see if it will cut thru material.

Does Sizzix make the one you found at Joann's? I might have to find a Joann's around here that carries something other than fabric. (I don't know of any ... )

Yep, it's a Sizzix and I got to use a 40% off coupon too....score! I'm not sure but I think the Jo-Ann's around here are super stores, they carry ALOT of junk, I mean crafty items .

Sigh!!!! Go to google, type in world's oldest homeroom mother, and it will come up. I am tired, vacation is running out, didn't get as much done as I would of liked, but I guess you never can in one week. Monday will be a black day for me.
