Actually, salt will enhance the taste! I have a recipe for homemade kettle corn that calls for a small amount of salt to be added. The recipe is from www.allrecipes.com it is very easy and good too!

Just a FYI, York has changed the way they package their peppermint patties, they are now in a wrapper that looks like a silver pillow. If you want the round, wrapped ones, you will need to switch to another brand called Pearson's. I don't know if they are a tasty as the York ones.

The Pearson's brand is a little different texture than the York brand, but it will do. I tried "tucking" the package around the York pattie to do these packages, it was a no go, looked really bad, so I used this brand. I am going to tie some on packages with some wide ribbon.

If it's the same peppermint patty as we have over here I love them and coconut roughs.
Never thought to 'redo' lollies and things in a new wrapper like that, although I have seen the bar slider boxes.
Love the gallery here.

Thanks for the insight on taste, maybe will have to try it first before investing a bunch of time making something that does not taste good.

The Pearson patties are very good. I had several last night!!! I think they are thicker and maybe denser than the other, but I haven't had the other forever. I like them.

I saw this project before and I am doing them for gifts for the kids in the family. I saw Becky's (wow is she amazing!!) and I saw on another blog where someone made a snowman out of them - the top round was the face and then just the body going down - light snowflakes on the body I think. So I think I'm making snowman.

Target has $5 gift coins this year. So I thought I would buy them and put them in the bags as well, part of the body maybe. BUT those darn coins are about a 1/4 inch too big for the bags. I did try cutting one down a bit (assuming that they were still usable since the scanning number was intact) but they are a plastic and I couldn't cut nicely so I gave up. I will have to attach them to the top in another way - I think a little 3x3 envelope will work nicely or a coin envelope.

but that's kind of how all of my projects are going this year - I keep running into roadblocks (and just not doing what I should be doing).

Is Christmas still on the 25th or did they move it for me???

Its snowing here and I really wish we had gotten more so our office would have closed. I was planning on crafting (nothing better than on a snow day to craft the day away). Oh well. Maybe I'll leave early.

I baked cookies while watching the finale of The Biggest Loser, some irony in this somehow.

Cindy, the Pearson brand of peppermint patties taste okay, just a little firmer than the York brand. My favorite quick baked holiday brownie is the Martha White fudge brownie mix, baked by the recipe, then when they are done, out of oven, sprinkle on some chopped Andes mints, let the chocolate melt, then spread over the brownies. The peppermint patties have the white fondant filling, will not melt well, I have ended up tearing the brownies trying to get it to spread.

MMMMM, just love the holidays.

I saw an adorable idea on Erin's "Hand Stamped Style" blog that is great for the kiddos. She just stamped white panels in different, easy to color, designs, and put them on a colored base. She put 4 cards in a set, and included a box of crayons, and called it "Cards By U" so the kids could color their own cards to send out. How cute, quick and easy is THAT? I love that idea, so I'm going to make some of those this year (If I get time, that is. LOL!)

Hi Ladies I need HELP

I am working on some altered file folders and can't figure out how to keep the bottom part up. I'm figuring that I can use grommets & ribbon on the ends but what about the middle? I have looked for over an hour trying to find some tuts for them and only found 1 which just showed the folding process. I know I've seen on one of these threads more tuts for them but I can't seem to find them now. Ain't that how it always is - you can find things when you don't nee dthem but when you need them you can't find them.

So if anyone can find the tuts or tell me how to hold the middle up I would GREATLY appreciate your assistance. I need to (OK HAVE to) have these finished & ready to give as gifts by the first of the week.

Thanks so much in advance.

Mary -

Thanks so much. I think I figured out what my problem was. I was trying to make it harder than it really was. Gluing the 2 center parts together really makes the difference.

I gave my embellished candy bars to dh to hand out at work, this is his last day for the year.

Yeah, he is going to be home everyday during the rest of the holidays, moaning he is tired (why, he hasn"t done anything all day), hungry (funny, sink is full of dishes), and think of every excuse under the sun not to do any holiday shopping.

I am so thankful I have my job to go to.

I made some of the Peppermint Bark Popcorn and it was really delish. I made the popcorn in a brown lunch bag. You put 1/4 cup of popcorn in a brown lunch bag, foldl top down and put a piece of scotch tape to hold the fold. Microwave for 3-5 minutes depending on your microwave. I pop until I dont hear many pops left. No salt or butter involved. Works really great! Alot cheaper than buying microwave popcorn.

Oh Debbie

How wonderful an idea. I love, LOVE popcorn but am trying to do better by not eating so much buttery snacks. I know the air popped is much better for you. Thanks so much for sharing the idea.

I finally finished all the Christmas gifts I am making this year. Between aides, teachers, bus drivers, I needed to come up with something quick, simple and inexpensive. I needed 30 of these gifts. I made candy bars wrapped in a santa suit. A picture is in my gallery. I could not figure out how to add the actual picture to this post.

Now I need to get my Christmas cards finished.

I looked for an air popper tonight at Wally Mart but thought better, the popcorn in the lunch bag is cheaper and its the right size for me.

I was born and raised about 37 miles east of LA. Moved out to St. Louis in 1977. Our weather is very changeable unlike WI, where hubbies family lives. I enjoy going up there for the cold...okay call me weird.....I am okay with that! I like the seasons!

Really I didnt have a issue with it burning at all. I have an older microwave so maybe that is the reason?

I even reused the bag and made 5 batches of the popcorn.

I tried the popcorn in a bag method last night and the first batch I burned (I hate stinky burned popcorn smell!) but I did it way too long. I set my popcorn setting and when it was done there was still popping going on so I set it for another couple of minutes. Too long! But I did it again (why not the house already stunk) and this time set it for about four minutes but it was really done around 3 - probably the same time as the popcorn setting I think. Hardly any unpopped kernals and the popcorn was delicious! - I did put some butther on it though for me to eat!!!

I'm going to try the popcorn recipe you posted - it sounds delicious too! But all these recipies sound great - I'm trying not to eat this stuff or even make it (cause then I will just eat it) but I'm losing that battle!!! Oh well.

Oh well.
Oh Mary I agree nothing worst than the burning smell of Popcorn!! I just set mine for 3 minutes and take it out when its done popping or close to it. There are a few unpopped kernals but thats ok. I love the Peppermint bark but I will be making the Cinnamon Bun Popcorn this week... I limit my eating to a cup, but thats sure hard to do!!! LOL

Well...you could do what I do when I try out new recipes...I send the left-overs into work with my husband. They love getting goodies all year long, than I don't have to try and eat it all by myself either!

Default Challenge for next year

Hi. Part of it was to make 10 Holiday cards a month and post them by a certain date. I have spent the last few days trying to find that message. (I am not any good trying to find "threads." (Is that the word?) It sounds like a great idea. I am thinking of combining this contest with the scripture challenge (if that is "legal.") Stick to the true meaning of Christmas. (Even though half my family is Jewish.) Can anyone find this challenge and let me know the details? Or forward it to me? I'm afraid, I may not find this line of messages again. I'm so confused!

Traci have you tried to subscribe to the threads you want to keep.. If you do try, clicking on the Thread tools tab at the top of the thread and click on the subscribe line. Then on the left side you can click on the subscriptions and any of the threads you subscribe to will be at the top as they are posted too. Just a thought. It also keeps you from having to search for certain threads too.
