Talking Kittens and watercoloring don't mix!

Same can be said for kittens with stickles and crystal effects! LOL.

I am having a rare stamping day at home (the kids are at the babysitters and I took a vacation day from work to get some routine maintenance done on my car). We recently adopted a kitten from the humane society (his name is Rocky) and he is just trying getting into everything.

Off to go find him a fake mouse to play with!

Around here it is cats and crafting don't mix most of the time. My orange boy either insists that he has to sit in the middle of the project I'm working on or that he needs to sit on top of supplies that I've pulled out and want to use. Thankfully he hasn't pulled the "I want to make inked paw prints" all over the house yet

Linda - I hear ya! My 'kittens' are 18 months old and still feel it necessary to 'help' me stamp on occasion!

Lots of toys are the answer! Even the 'freebies' will work - mine still love empty toilet paper rolls & milk jug tops (the twist kind) to play with.

Your cat is adorable. I can't believe that I haven't taken any pictures of my cat yet (but then again with two boys ages 4 and 3 I think I have an excuse). Rocky is a short-haired all black cat with Amber eyes. He reminds me of my other two black haired kitties that are now in heaven (not only in looks but in his personality).

Cats . . . they always have to be in the middle of things, no matter what you're doing. At least yours is a kitten (at least for the time being). Mine weighs about 15 pounds and hops around like he weighs 2

My girls are well trained not to touch mommy's stuff. Mittens loves to lay on Matthew's school work though or anything else he has out. Grey is a sweetie and doesn't get into trouble.

I should add they do like to be in the scrap/stamp room with me any time I am in there, but just lay quietly by my feet or on the bed.

Rocky's working on it. I've only had him a month and I swear he has grown so much (I'm betting three pounds at least). He was only about 4 pounds at 4 months (from being a stray I bet) but he's fattening up beautifully. He gets his last round of shots on Friday and I'm curious to see how much he weighs. I'm going to have to ask the vet how much I should be feeding him (right now I've just been keeping his bowl filled with food cause he needed to gain weight). I'm thinking that he's right where he should be weight wise now. I have a feeling that he is going to be a good sized cat!

Default Kittens + ribbon = Not good

Oh yeah - one other thing: keep the ribbon in a storage container he can't get into. This will avoid a ribbon explosion AND the chance of him eating it - which is really a bad thing.

My 10 year old Ragdoll, Rosie, only bothers with my stamping area when she needs to throw up a hairball! How many times has she ruined a project by doing this? Too many times to count. One time I had spent about 3 hours making this wonderful card for my mom. I finally finished it about midnight and went to bed. The next morning? Yeah, you have the picture. Needless to say, I was a bit irritated. Lesson learned? Nope, it has happened again.

Moral of the story? Hairballs and paper projects do not mix!

I'll never forget when my dearly departed Tigger decided to "stamp" his wet paw in the middle of my just completed eyelet chart. You know, the kind where you painstakingly punch holes all over a sheet with each color typed out on it? yep, I was ALL done, then he stamped his wet green paw right in the middle. Grrr...

He was never very helpful when it came to wrapping gifts either. He loved to lay in the middle of the wrapping paper on the floor. LOL!

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. My cats aren't the "crafty" type at all. They're content sleeping at my feet. It'll probably be a different story when we move to the new house though. My craft room (the loft) has a window that I'll be sitting at. The cats will probably be sleeping up there. I don't know if Camy will fit there, though. She has a bit of a weight issue.LOL

These guys think everything I do is strictly for their benefit! They'll either dunk their paws or drop whatever item they've picked up in my (watercoloring) water, chew on the crackle-y Xyron film, chase ribbon, well.. you get the picture! Shut the door?? Not possible as I need to be able to hear myself think... They're just over 18 months old with no signs of slowing down...

Every crafter needs a kitten in the home!!! My college age daughter talked me into a new kitten a month or so ago. My daughter babysits over night so she is gone a lot (which makes her sad that she doesn't get to sleep with kitty much) so I get to kitty-sit. If I'm watching tv, its all good, the kitten sleeps on my lap (or neck, chest, arm, head, whatever). But when I craft in another room, she goes NUTS. She runs from room to room, bouncing and jumping over things. She goes into my paper cubbies and gets stuck, knocks everything out, she grabs ribbon and runs through the house, she gets tape stuck to her. It is just completely crazy! I don't know if she hates it that I'm not focused on her (and nobody else is around) or she thinks its all fun. But she is nuts. But gotta love her - she gives you no other choice! Its like having a toddler on a sugar high that never goes to sleep and just runs around the house all night!!!! Mary

Hey Beth,

Our Ragdolls could be related! Rosie my cat looks exactly like your baby. I just can't believe it! Same facial coloring, same white paws. All colors from white to dark. WOW they could be twins. Does yours put hairballs on your projects too? I bet not!

Don't know how to post photos but if I ever learn, will post one of Rosie. Or I could just use yours and say it is of her!

Thanks,

Pam

Only one of my two cats feels the need to be involved with my stamping. Unfortunately, she's a long-haired (mostly black fur) calico. The last time she "helped", she knocked over my dazzling diamonds onto the floor, open end down. That scared her, so she jumped off the table into the glitter. I had glitter snowing all over the room, but especially on my cats' tail. Every time she swished her tail, a new shower of glitter would fill the room. She's also the cat who gets little pieces of tape stuck to her paws, knocks the blades off my cutter so she can bat them around the room, and tries to claw off the hemp and fancy fibers from my cards. She's a great cat, and she just loves to have fun, but she's a handful.

When he was a kitten with his littermate he was called Pinky because he was the only one with a pink nose instead of black. I think he's precious! He does leave hairballs around but not on my projects. Always on the floor and sometimes whatever is on the floor gets in the way (like my daughters book bag). She wasn't happy!

My big boy (16 pounds) loves to step and lay on my paper and finished projects and put big dents in them and will try to steal brads, I'm so worried we'll be making a trip to the vet one day to remove one from his tummy! He *loves* my ribbon too!
But he's my buddy, wouldn't trade him for anything!!

I have a three month old blue Siamese kitten named Chloe. She has introduced a new form of paper piercing to me....on already completed cards. Sigh!

When I stamp, I close the door on my two cats. Before I do so, I toss them each a small catnip pillow. They are just ridiculous with them - turning sommersaults and waddling around like drunken sailors! At any rate, the pillows keep their interest and they're not at my door banging on it.

My new baby loves to try to lay on my table while I'm stamping. I discovered that my little water bottle I use for misting my stamps also works great for training my little Leo!! LOL Now when he apprears, I just shake the bottle, he shakes his head and lays down on the back of the couch, which my craft table butts up to. Its so cute!

Actually, he bugs me more when I am on SCS. As I was reading this post, he jumped on my keyboard. So now I've got him settled on my chest purring away.

My baby boy is named Rocky also and he has to be wherever I am. If that means laying in the middle of my paper so be it. He's had his tail swiped throuh so many colors because if I ignore him he's got to get his tail into my face. When I found him wandering outside and brought him in he was named something different. After his quarantine when he came in to meet the other cats, he earned the name Rocky. He'll fight anybody anytime and can outlast them all. Ornery boy. Every stamper needs a cat though.

Ooh, yeah ... the eating ribbon thing ... now that's an event I don't want to experience again. My kitty was looking very festive one year when we discovered her dangling some red ribbon ... and not from her mouth. ACK! She was not very pleased about the situation and we were none too thrilled ourselves, as it required a little "assistance" (the ex-husband was good for something!). As it was, though, we were just thankful she was okay.
