I just saw this morning on the SU website that there is a $99 mini kit promotion. There are actually 3 options: 1) card making option 2) scrapbook option 3) decor elements option. The website said these mini kits were designed more for people who may already own some SU product so you only get a couple of the craft supplies while the kits include all the regular business supplies.

Hope this is what you were waiting for.

I am fairly sure you pay shipping on the amount before the discount.

We always pay shipping on the retail catalog price. Tax depends on whether the order is placed as a customer or workshop order (in which case you pay tax on the retail price) or a demonstrator order (in which case you pay tax on the discounted price).

Typically it's better to order your own stuff on a demonstrator order because of the tax, but if you're combining your order with customer orders to get hostess benefits or lower shipping or for whatever other reason, you must place those orders as either customer orders or workshop orders. You can only use the demo order for items that are intended for your own use.

Thanks so much for the info. I can't find it. Is that just on a demo only part of the website? Does it say when the special starts? What is included in the card making kit?

Sorry to hear about the root canal Jessica. I had to have one just last week. Never had one before that and today ( 1 week from the procedure), I am just starting to feel like it is back to normal. Hey, I just uploaded some photos to my gallery, go take a look. I have to run out for most of the day, but I hope to upload some more tonight.

Wink Food for Thought

IF you already have quite a bit of SU materials (cardstock, scissors, ink pads, etc) then you may want to consider going the $99 route.

Yes, in the $199 kit you do get more stamps; however, if you opt for the lower priced kit you can use that extra $100 you saved & apply it to your initial order---the one that receives the 30% discount.

Yes, you still have to pay shipping & tax, BUT you will have a much larger discount which will help absorb some of the cost, your first order will count twoards your quarterly min., AND if you do it as a hostess order you will receive hostess benefits---which means a free level stamp set AND free merchandise---free stamps!!!

Ok--broken down here: (not including shipping/taxes here---as it differs from state to state)

-You spend $99 on the kit
-You take the $100 you saved by not buying the larger kit & apply it to your first hostess order
-You add $50 to the $100 you saved & place your first order as a $150 hostess order (order total is $105)
-You choose a FREE Level One Stamp Set
-You choose $15 in free merchandise---another stamp set or whatever
-The $150 will be counted towards your quarterly sales & you will only have to get $150 in sales by the end of the quarter
-If you have already saved up additional monies for your first order than you could get even more free depending on the level.

Hope this makes sense & helps some that are having money issues or trying to decide on what to do.

Default One more piece of info---

Just a side note---

Starting with the Spring/Summer Catalog---all of the stamps are suppose to be die-cut which means that the rubber scissors that comes in the kit will probably be replaced with something else since they won't really be needed as much anymore.

I'm really thinking of signing up. Thank you so much Kelli for the break down like you did it. There is only one thing I don't understand:

" -You add $50 to the $100 you saved & place your first order as a $150 hostess order (order total is $105, that is what I pay)" and

"-The $150 will be counted towards your quarterly sales (even though I only paid $105) & you will only have to get $150 in sales by the end of the quarter"

does this mean you could do the order as a Hostess and get the 30% off ($150 retail order with 30% off = pay $105) but the $150 is the amount that goes to the $300 quarterly that you need to do every three months, not the amount the you paid ($105).

I'm so sorry if this seems so elementary. I just want to be sure I understand how the quarterly minimum is met. I would only be, initially, signing up as a "hobby" demo.

Thanks for any help you can give in my understanding this.

Yes, all demonstrator orders that are $150 or more total earn hostess benefits (whether you put them in as a demonstrator, customer or workshop order). The catalog price before demonstrator discount goes towards your minimums.

the 30% is off the first order over $150 in the first 45 days. So if the order was $150 or $800 (woo hoo!) you get 30% off.

Many demonstrators schedule their first workshop in the first 45 days and then add on what they were going to buy anyway to the workshop order. Nice little extra!

30% off is for a workshop order so the 30% off needs to be on an order $150 or MORE

About how much are the shipping rates for SU? I was previously a CTMH and shipping was pretty reasonable.
Also is the kit taxed at the rate for the county you live in? (I'm guessing probably so.)
I'm leaning towards the $99 kit-I already have a number of the things included in the larger kit.
Thanks!

SU shipping is 10% of the total, with a $6.95 minimum. (In a workshop setting each individual's shipping would be 10% of their order total, even if their total was less than $69.50)

Shipping is free on the kit, but tax is charged at your city/county rate (whichever prevails, I guess?)

That makes sense-thanks for the info!
I'm guessing I'll still go with the smaller kit and plan on joining in October so I have until March to hit my minimum.

Yes, 8 big catalogs. If you order the kit after 9/1/08 you would get 8 holiday mini catalogs as well.

any order can be a workshop order---even if YOU (the demo) are the only attendee---little confusing, I know, but you can enter any order as a workshop order & as long as it is at leat $150 it qualifies for the hostess benefits.

You could have a workshop with your mom, a neighbor, & yourself---you can make yourself the hostess & receive the benefits (if the order is $150+) or you can opt to give the hostess benefits to your mom or neighbor---LMK if you have any more questions & good luck ~ Starter Smiles ~ Kelli

Someone said there was also a special where you get to pick a free stamp set when you become a demo - is this happening with the mini kit too?

No, you can either choose the $99 mini kit or the $199 regular kit and choose an extra stamp set.

You wouldn't get any of the minis in your starter set before September 1, but you would get one mailed to you when they come out.
